Whatever it was that resulted in Mariam's disappearance, there was not "one witness" to whatever transpired. Obviously something happened that nobody saw ... we just don't know what that something was, thus our reason d'etre here at WS.

Billy, are you talking about the abduction here? Because if you are, I have no argument with that. What I find highly unlikely is that there wasn't a single witness at the dragon boat races if one were to believe that RW made contact with Mariam there. It was a crowded event and it has been reported that she was closely supervised. If I'm not mistaken, her brother was nearby. If RW spoke to Mariam at the races, someone should have seen it or remembered it after RW's picture was plastered all over the media for months. The abduction obviously had no witnesses.

Couple of comments/observations after seeing the Fifth Estate episode (which I incorrectly referred to as "W5" at some point ... my apologies).

I was surprised that RW looked like such a string-bean in the pics of him in jeans and t-shirt. JMO, but his appearance in casual attire is very different from what we see in uniform.

After seeing the whole "group" pic on 5th Estate, we have 3 members (me included) who believe it is PB over RW's shoulder. Anyone else care to provide their opinion on that point.

This snip here, shows that it WAS possible, that RW took Mariam, prior to leaving for CFB Alert on September 14,2009. We don't know what time the flight left for CFB Alert. It is reasonable, given the heavy schedules of those going on the trip, that is IS possible that it was an afternoon flight.

Given the following information, taken from CFB Trenton's newspaper, the latest possible flight, that the plane could have taken, from CFB Trenton, was 5 P.M. That is taking into consideration it was a 13 hour flight, and CFB Alert is 4 hours behind CFB Trenton in time. They arrived at CFB Alert at 2 a.m.

Time for RW to get from Toronto to Trenton for a 5 pm flight.

It took a 13-hour journey
in the back of a CC130
Hercules from Trenton, with
stops in Iqaluit and Thule Air
Force Base in Greenland,
before the visitors arrived at
CFS Alert at 2 a.m. the following​

Thanks, SB and Hazel. I found it and made this composite. Only the top centre one is not PB.

I do see a resemblance, but think the teeth and hair are all wrong. Of the dozens of photos of PB online, he has curly hair in all and not one resembles the straight hairstyle of the guy behind RW. In the first pic, where PB has a full smile, you can see his upper gums. The unidentified guy does not show gums. Also, PB's teeth look much larger to me.

There are more reasons why I don't think this is PB.

• PB was asked after RW's arrest if he knew him, and said he didn't remember him.
  
  
• I don't see the two men frequenting the same social circles. PB was a punk and small-time crook with a busy social life. RW was none of those things and a loner.
  
  
• No one has ever claimed that the guy in the group picture is PB. Not the other men in the picture, nor the photographer.
  
  
• After the initial breathless frenzy, even the media dropped the idea that these two actually knew each other at university.
  
  
• LE has never claimed or confirmed a relationship between the two men.

As you may be able to tell, I'm not much for conspiracy theories. LOL.

Well LOL ... i don't believe i've set in motion any amazing conspiracy theory here ... just myself and some others are convinced it is PB while you are not so inclined. Just because some people see it as PB and others don't, doesn't make one group conspiracy theorists and the others more correct in their observations.

1. What kind of credibility does a convicted killer/rapist have?

2. Strangely enough, some of the people associated with PB during his high school years included people who went to RW's high school while RW was there, at least one of whom was in PB's intimate circle.

Gosh, didn't they both attend the U. of T. at the same time, including economics courses. They also both dated U. of T. students. RW's girlfriend was a Japanese exchange student at U. of T. They broke up, and according to JF on the Fifth Estate documentary, that breakup seemed to have a huge impact on the course of RW's life. Strangely enough, PB also dated a U. of T. student who was described as "Oriental" in media articles of the day. That student apparently broke PB's window with a rock when she found out he was inside with another woman.

3. PB's maternal grandfather served in Italy during WWII (as a major?). His grandfather was a successful lawyer and partner in a well-established law firm in Kitchener-Waterloo. The family came from United Empire Loyalist stock. The grandfather and his wife played a key role in founding an art gallery in K-W, and later donated a Group of Seven painting. That's not typical street punk stock.

Sorry, SB, in no way was I implying that I was "more correct" than anyone else. When I put "JMO" after a post, I mean it and gave my reasons. I admitted that I do see a strong resemblance.

The conspiracy theory remark was not aimed at the PB similarity specifically, but at the many attempts to link RW with so many unsolved crimes (e.g. Debi R., Lachlan C., Mariam, and the connection to PB), in spite of little or no evidence pointing to such connections and LE claiming otherwise.

As I said, I believe RW will eventually be linked to other crimes (Kathleen McVicar, for one, seems very plausible to me), but IMO some of the other speculation just doesn't fit.

And truly, this is just my opinion. We all have one or two. No offense intended.

Thank-you, SillyBilly. That certainly makes the timeline much more narrow, regarding the possibility of RW having anything to do with Mariam's disappearance.

Here is an article that remains online, though it does indicate the flight was only 10 hours. Shows that one of the two papers, or both, may have some of the facts wrong. Go figure.

The mayor flew out of CFB Trenton Monday around 1 p.m. on board in a CC-130 Hercules.

Williams was on a military sponsored courtesy trip with 8 Wing along with commanding officer Col. Russ Williams.

“8 Wing enjoys a close relationship with Quinte West, and Alert is an element of the operational side of 8 Wing, so I felt it important that Mayor Williams come out and understand how we support this important operation,’’ the colonel said.

The trip to Alert took more than 10 hours that included refuelling stops at Frobisher Bay and Thule, Greenland.
