RW piloted a troop flight to California the morning after he murdered Jessica. Yeah, that's almost too bizarre. But here's a sideline question: If RW was a high ranking colonel, and base commander, why would he still be flying troops around? Wouldn't this be a task for lower ranked pilots (captains?) instead of the 'big boss' commander?

That is a great question.

I do believe Somegirlonthenet sort of answered this in one of her posts regarding RW being required to keep up his flying hours, in order to keep his pilot's designation, or whatever.

Thanks, that makes sense. Man, can you believe RW just left her body in his house for four days while he went off to California? Was he worried about the body being discovered? The smell and all? Or did he "click off" his alter personality and go into colonel mode? Damn.

I can believe that he did it and not have any concern about the body being discovered. Look at PB and KH, they had the remains of one of the girls they had murdered in their basement while they were upstairs having dinner with the family (I believe it was Easter dinner), never giving it a second thought. These type of people don't have a conscience like us "average" people

Impossible to understand the incongruity of these actions!

He would see Williams stomp on the grass before mowing the lawn to chase out frogs and spare them a horrible fate. And he would see Williams stroll around with his cat, Rosebud, over his shoulder, stroking it "just like it was a baby."

Yep, RW had to keep current just like any other pilot...plus, with the operational tempo in Trenton right now, they may have been down with trained Airbus pilots...

<snip>

It's a poser, isn't it? I've read before that there are some people who are socially stilted, and can relate more to animals and nature than they can to other human beings. RW does however seems to care about MEH (probably loves her as much as he's capable of loving anyone other than himself).

I just want to say thanks for all the great posts. Lots of good insight here. Websleuths is where it's at for this case. I can't find much discussion about it elsewhere.

I hope this will not be the case with RW.

"Also, keeping in touch with Olson was a chance to get greater insight into the thinking of a serial killer whose actions have never been fully examined. When he pleaded guilty of murder in 1982, the trial ended. No examination of the whys and wherefores."

How Jessica Lloyd's life should have been saved

JIM RANKIN AND SANDRO CONTENTA STAFF REPORTERS

In emails to Belleville police and the OPP — and phone calls to McMullan — the Star has argued that information about the door-knocking incident would reassure the public that possible lapses have been identified and fixed.

In his last email response, OPP Insp. Dave Ross indicated the Star should file a freedom of information request. McMullan, for her part, repeatedly praised her officer, insisting she did more to investigate the suspicious vehicle than most officers would have.

McMullan and the OPP suggest that revealing police procedures for investigating a suspicious vehicle would hinder their duty to protect the public. Yet the RCMP had no qualms telling the Star the procedures it instructs cadets to use — and they include noting and tracing the licence number.

Det. Insp. Chris Nicholas, the OPP officer who headed the joint investigation to nab Williams, refused interview requests from the Star. The Star also sent email requests for interviews to the Belleville officer who knocked on the door, along with a priority post letter to her home, but received no response.

As of today, the complete Access to Information Requests do not show where anyone has requested the information regarding LE inspecting Jessica Lloyd's house that night, but I am unsure if this is the main Government site for all ATI Requests. I think it is, but, we had seen many, many ATI's, which I linked here in previous threads, for RW between February and July.

July 2010 through October 2010 indicate zero ATI requests relating to this subject, fwiw.

This is a possible link between JL and RW!

A member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Parkhurst sponsored a bus that carried veterans to 8 Wing Trenton so they could participate in repatriation ceremonies for soldiers killed during the Canadian military's current mission in Afghanistan.
As operator of tri-board student transportation services, the Parkhurst company has been responsible for getting children to school safely and on time for more than 50 years.

Cobourg Honours Jessica and Marie-France

Posted 2 hours ago

Mon, Dec 6th, '10 - 6:38 am

The names of Russell Williams’ murder victims Marie France Comeau and Jessica Lloyd will be read aloud today in a ceremony in Cobourg.

Co-organizer Margaret Schroeder says the vigil will be held in Victoria Park between 12 and 12-45 this afternoon to honour all women who have been victims of violence. Schroeder says the vigil happens today… because December 6th is the anniversary of the Montreal Massacre… which claimed the lives of female engineering students in a violent shooting at the Ecole Polytechnique in 1989.

Williams' case painful example of gendered violence

Cathy Gulli, associate editor of Maclean's Magazine, had a front row seat to one of the most shocking and horrific manifestations of gender-based violence in recent memory. She covered the case of serial sexual predator and murderer Col. Russell Williams. "What those two women endured we will never understand, they were alone with a predator who they did not know and could not see," Gulli told more than 50 people gathered Monday for an event to mark the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

The writer admits she hasn't entirely processed what she heard about Williams' crimes. "There are some things I've taken away from this experience — danger doesn't always look like danger; the victims are always blameless; and we have to face the truth and the facts of what sexual violence looks like," she said. Gulli said many media outlets, including Maclean's, struggled with how much information to disseminate about the Williams' case. She said letting the public know the truth is important, even when it's gory and awful. "We can't deny what happened to those women," she said

I though I read that his medals would be recovered and then destroyed along with his uniforms. Does anyone else recall reading this or was it just his uniforms that were destroyed/burned.

Found the link:

Medals to be destroyed
Once they have his medals and scroll — an official document that confirms Williams was a serving officer — the military plans to destroy them, he said.

Williams had two medals: the Canadian Forces Decoration Medal, given for good service, and the South West Asia Service Medal, for having served at least 30 days in Afghanistan.

The scroll will likely be shredded and the medals cut in pieces using a special device to ensure they're not re-used, Genest added.

This just in.
Former colonel and convicted murderer Russell Williams has been officially expelled from the Canadian Forces, the Department of National Defence said Friday.

In finalizing his release, officials retrieved his South-West Asia Service Medal with Afghanistan bar and Canadian Forces Decoration with clasp and Commission Scroll.

A spokesman for the military said in late November that the medals would be cut into pieces using a special device to ensure they would not be issued again. The scroll would likely be shredded.

It's important to have the final separation clear in people's minds, said Canadian Forces spokesman Cmdr. Hubert Genest.

"We're just satisfied that all the administrative steps were taken and we really wanted the Canadian public to know this so that there's a marker and we can move forward from this point on," he said.

It may not sound like a huge step, but it's a symbolic one, Genest said.

Mallick: Institutional cowardice hides failure in Jessica Lloyd case

I lie awake at night and think of Lloyd's duct-taped corpse lying in the cold silent white woods where Williams dumped it, and I think of the debt of honesty we owe to that good brave woman whose foremost thought was of her family's distress.

I know that if I had failed her, I'd admit it and let that lesson teach police province-wide what to do when the next killer smugly parks his car and begins his hideous task.

But I'm not a police officer or chief or minister of public safety or provincial premier, all curled up in the fetal position when determined reporters phone and email, again and again. The Star has even couriered a letter to one particular officer personally. She remains silent.

It's a pretty harsh article, but, I recommend reading it.

Yes, I'd say it was a bit harsh. Sounds like a reporter with a bone to pick, not someone seeking to make a difference. Don't care for her attitude.
