GUILTY Canada - Shannon Burgess, 25, Calgary, 26 Nov 2014 - #4 *Arrest*

  • #261
I think the police have been watching him and he attempted to move the body this week. That's how it turned to homicide because they saw her body. If it got buried or not.

And about her last fb post, I think it is a line from a script by the production company Alliance. Maybe the production she was in wasn't by Alliance? And she missed working for them? I have no idea the meaning behind it.

She was a participant in a role playing group called Alliance. <modsnip>

Thank you for this post. I think this individuals character can easily be seen through his manipulation of the Burgess family, the media, friends, and concerned citizens. We have a real Ted Bundy on our hands. Fortunately the CPS were not as easily fooled. Kudos to them!!!!

This is not what I expected as the outcome. I was actually 4 blocks from their home Saturday and Sunday but found out the outcome after I left. After watching and reading all speculations and theories, since they only dug out ground Sunday but they said Shannon's remains were found Friday, she would have had to be in the house somewhere, somehow. My mind takes me to Jefffey Dahlmer thoughts and I hope I am really wrong. It will be interesting to find out why it shifted quickly from missing to homicide in a week. RIP Shannon

"Dustin Milne said he spent lots of time with 29-year-old Joshua Burgess, who is now charged with second-degree murder.

"It was a pretty big shock because I spent a lot of time with Josh during the investigation and didn't get any sense of that from him," Milne said of Burgess, who was charged Sunday. "It's one of those things, like, 'Wow, how did you not pick up on that?'"

"Without having a body, it has been rough on them," he said.

"As you can imagine, there is relief that they have a body, and they're bringing closure to this and they can carry on with a funeral. But at the same time, obviously sad because that hope that she was just in Toronto, or just off pursuing acting is obviously now lost."

Ted Bundy killed 30-100+ strangers, often brutally raping them before and after he murdered them. I'm thinking this case more likely a spousal argument gone bad.

I guess my point was he is just as manipulative. How could he hurt Shannon then watch her die? Why would he not call 911...she may have lived. The outcome for him will be the same. HE HID HER REMAINS IN HIS HOME AND LIED FOR 7 MONTHS!

Sorry I cannot be swayed. This creep is as low as they come and should be treated accordingly. To me...he is no better than Bernardo or Bundy.

I'm not trying to sway you, you're entitled to your opinion. However most people would see these as distinctly different cases---hence first and second degree murder charges.

LE has not yet indicated if the remains were hidden inside or outside the home.

Hopefully they increase the charge. Shannon was beautiful and now she is gone. We are left having to watch this cocky and ugly creep on the news. I will be so disappointed if there is no justice for Shannon.

Sorry, I don't follow you. They should increase the charge because Shannon was beautiful?

No. because he watched her die. He planned to kill her. He caused her death then denied her medical help. To me...this is intentional premeditated homicide. 1st degree MURDER. It's times like this I wish we had the death penalty.

Has LE just released more info? I haven't heard or read anywhere that he planned to kill her. That's usually a topic of discussion they save for the trial, no? Has that happened already?

Was the dog still around ? If not we may know what the small hole in the yard was for :(

Whatever happened...whether he hit her..strangled her..etc...she obviously went unconscious and showed signs of serious injury. He intentionally did not call for help and hid the action causing Shannons death. He intentionally caused her death. This was further evidenced by the 7 month long Web of manipulation and lies. You do not follow this logic?

Shannon must have loved him, or she wouldn't have married him, and he must have loved her in some way, too. It's hard to understand how love can turn into killing, but an estimated 40% of women who die by violence are killed by their intimate partner, according to the WHO. http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2013/06/21/who-study-forty-percent-of-murdered-women-killed-by-their-partners

It's possible there had been domestic violence, and she knew she had to leave because of that but wasn't willing to talk about it. Very tragic.

For me, it depends on the actual circumstances---I base my judgments on facts, not my imagination or hearsay. Canadian courts do the same, I think.

Good that you do that. But who will speak for Shannon? What are her facts? Will we take this 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬's word for it? Will this sick creep and his lawyer manipulate the courts too?

Given that Shannon's body was found at their shared home, I'm confident that Josh Burgess will be convicted of second degree murder. The autopsy may reveal new information that could potentially justify charging him with first degree murder.

Either way, he will be given a sentence of life imprisonment. With first degree murder, he would be eligible for parole after 25 years. With second degree murder, he would be eligible for parole after somewhere between 10 and 25 years (depends on the case). In both cases, the convicted murderer remains on parole for life.

With second degree murder, it's more common that parole is granted after 10 years, especially with a first offence, and a spousal homicide (where emotions are exaggerated during divorce process). Generally speaking, it's assumed that spousal homicide is a once in a lifetime event, and there's low risk that it will happen again, or that the suspect is a danger to society.

We have to wait for the autopsy report to know how she died. He may have hit her hard in the chest, and it killed her instantly. They may have gotten into a physical fight where the wrong move resulted in death. He may have been really angry with her when she was in Edmonton, and planned to murder her when she arrived home. If the latter is true, hopefully there is evidence on his computer that includes searches like "how to kill" (many 1st degree murderers leave that sort of evidence). There's probably evidence of internet searches on "how to get rid of a body".

Either way, we have to wait - perhaps until trial - to fully understand what happened.
