Im a very good friend of the victim in Orillia. And have been following this forum and thought it was time to shed light on all of your views.

The detectives here in Orillia have said there is no link with the SV case. The Media " Toronto Sun" have jumped to their own conclusions because the crime was almost on the anniversary of SV Murder. They have no reason to believe that it is connected at all. they are giving SV's family false hope that this is connected.

Behind metro is lit up, its a common shortcut to go to the bars that are close by, many people walk thru there night and day.

They Apparently have other video footage from different locations of the suspect they have not released.

They say they are hopeful they will get DNA evidence from the crime scene and it is being processed as we speak.

OMG....is it just me or did anyone else get the chills running up and down the spine reading this thing? Could THIS be written by the killer himself? Well, of course it could be! And the "they have no clue" part REALLY hit me!

[/B]
His latest blog is at the top, so better start reading bottom to top. He doesn't come across like the killer to me. Would he give his DNA and then be impatiently waiting for the 'letter'? I think he doesn't like to be in the 'suspects' list, and wants the letter so he will not be questioned again. I think he is in a position to kinda 'evaluate' LE's procedures, and seems he is not at all impressed. To be honest, the impression he gave me was that he is LE, and trying to get the 'killer' to comment on his blog ... sorry, I think I watch too many crime shows :D

Whatever that item is, IMO he tosses it because he doesn't want to be seen walking/running with it. There is a lamp post right there, and he knows he could be seen by someone. If the item belongs to the woman or if it is a weapon he used (even a stick), or plastic bag, piece of clothing (maybe a sock), or anything that the woman could describe, he doesn't want to be seen with it, all JMHO.
my apologies for quoting myself, just wanted to highlight a couple of things (thanks dilbert!)

That could be the reason why he wasn't swinging both his arms while running; was busy taking only what interested him out of it, and tossing it after he emptied it? Trying to be a bit cryptic, since it is still 'hearsay'.

Yeah, according to the person on the other board, it was her purse he threw away. You guys have good eyes, because I couldn't see that!

Oh my -- hopefully LE have it and are able to obtain prints. This guy does appear overly confident. I also think when LE described the attack as daring, they also meant who would be so brazen as to attack someone under the bright lights of a parking lot and then carry out a rape, when apparently this parking lot was a shortcut walkway used by many people frequenting the local bars. IMO only a seasoned criminal would be so cavalier and also so confident that he just apparently tossed her purse??

I hope he is quaking big time in his big boots tonight, as LE closes in on him, as someone, somehwere is going to recognize this guy from the video, even the way he strides to run surely someone will know a friend/relative who runs this way.

I just hope we are not dealing with a young offender, who will get a slap on the wrist and reoffend.

Just my rant and IMO.

Hey gang! I haven't posted on this thread in a long time, but I do check it out from time to time, and, I've been catching up more recently due to this sexual assault in Orillia. You have all come up with some great stuff! Thanks so much.

After watching the video a number of times, the only thing I will add is that the suspect looked somewhat athletic. While his running gait is 'loping' in nature, and it is difficult to tell in slow motion, he moves easily as he runs. He could be anywhere from late teens to early 40's in my guess...but more likely mid-late 20's to mid-late 30's.

So what is it that LE has in mind that links this crime with Sonia's? They say it is the brutality, but what could be more brutal than murder with massive blood loss? Was there major blood loss in the sexual assault case? I suspect, as someone said previously (sorry, I don't have the time to go back and find it!), that there was something similar in the specifics between the Orillia case and SV's case. Was there mutilation? Use of a specific weapon?

To change the topic, my thoughts are with the surviving victim in Orillia. If the assault was vicious, I hope she can find the strength to recover, not only physically, but, more importantly, in emotional terms.

Sex assault in Orillia not linked to Varaschin murder: OPP

By Andrew Livingstone, Enterprise Staff

An article in a Toronto newspaper attempting to link the murder of Sonia Varaschin and a vicious sexual assault in Orillia resulted in false sensationalizing, said an official with the Ontario Provincial Police.

Const. Peter Leon said the article, posted on the Toronto Sun website Sept. 4, led readers to believe the attack on a woman in Orillia, some 100 km from where Varaschin was attacked just over a year ago, could be related to the Orangeville nurse’s death.

However, Leon said there is no link between the two cases and they are being treated separately.

I wonder how the real perps feel about being "accused" of each other's crimes! It would have been nice to see who was responsible for SV's death and to solve the recent sex crime, nonetheless, I think it shook a few trees...

  • #569
OK, so now there's "no link" in the attack/murder. That leaves me less confident that SV's murder will be solved.:banghead:

About the blog - I also did think that the writer could have been LE (maybe even the "chick cop") in order to get the killer to open up a dialogue. Did anyone else try to respond to the blog? Well, I did and I couldn't get in to respond. I'm sure LE can get in, though.

Im a very good friend of the victim in Orillia. And have been following this forum and thought it was time to shed light on all of your views.* *

* The detectives here in Orillia* have said there is no link with the SV case.* The Media " Toronto Sun" have jumped to their own conclusions because the crime was almost on the anniversary of SV Murder. They have no reason to believe that it is connected at all.* they are giving SV's family false hope that this is connected.*

Behind metro is lit up,* its a common shortcut to go to the bars that are close by, many people walk thru there night and day.

They Apparently* have other video footage from different locations* of the suspect they have not released.

They say they are* hopeful they will get DNA evidence from the crime scene and it is being processed as we speak.*

They have a list of names of suspects already,* some are past convicted criminals, they are waiting for DNA to be processed to see if they can link to those names, or past convicted sex offenders. They believe that this person is a repeat offender.* *They have had several tips from the video already.* When they get DNA if they do,* they are going to check it with past unsolved crimes.* *

In the video the suspect drops the victims purse.*
Another few things. It was warmer that night t shirt weather, and google maps is outdated. If you crime detectives will look harder at the google street view the motel as shown doesn't have a video camera on the building and the building since has changed color.

After this attack it was amazing to find out some interesting facts,* In Orillia alone there was over 400 calls to the hospital for sexual assaults last year in 2010. and what percentage of Sexual Assaults do not get reported.?? do the math.* * We only heard* of 2 last year,* the ones that were serious cases.* I have heard that the this is common in small and large cities in Ontario and that the government keeps it tight sealed because of tourism.

What we do need here in Canada is a better law, one that doesn’t protect the convicts.* *They are protected in the media, in jail, and when they are release into the public.

We need a system like the USA has, where we can go to a website and look up sex offenders on a map and see where they are located in our cities, so people know where and when they cant walk at night, and also let their children play without worry.* *

Lets just hope for all families involved that* they catch all sexual assault suspects and convict them.

Viewing the video surveillance and watching the perp as he reached the sidewalk and can only imagine what may have occurred had other people been right there walking home from one of the bars.

Don't think this is related to the Orillia assault. They've got a pretty good description of this guy and his vehicle...

The man is described as white, in his 50's, thin/medium build, pale complexion, an unkept appearance with grey receding hair, scruffy grey and thick facial hair.

He was wearing a dirty grey t-shirt, that had a possible stain on it, and light blue jeans.

Police say the suspect was driving an older model small-midsize pick up truck, black with a single red horizontal stripe along the bottm of the doors, silver/chrome bumpers and square headlights.

Meantime, in Durham Region (1 and half hours rough distance)this hideous rape occured outside school.
Student Reports Sexual Assault
12-Sep-2011 16:39 PST Back | Print Article

http://www.durhamregion.com/news/cr...---------------------------------------------

A 16-year-old female student in Whitby reported being attacked and sexually assaulted during her lunch break.

On Monday, September 12, 2011 around 11:30 a.m., the 16-year-old female student from Sinclair High School was eating her lunch alone in a grassy area near a park in the vicinity of Lazio Street and Samandria Avenue in Whitby. She was approached by three unknown males who grabbed her and threw her to the ground.

She reports being dragged into a wooded area where two suspects held her down and one suspect grabbed the knife from her lunch bag and cut her clothing. She reported being sexually assaulted by one of the suspects and losing consciousness at one point. When she awoke, she managed to stumble out into a grassy field where a telephone technician working in the area saw her. He contacted police.

Suspect #1 and #2 are described as male, white, both in their 20s, wearing baggy clothing. Suspect #3 is described as a male, black, in his 20s, wearing baggy clothing.

Investigators with the DRPS Sexual Assault Unit are interviewing people in the area and are canvassing the neighbourhood in hopes someone saw the suspects earlier.

Anyone with new information regarding this investigation is requested to contact Det. Anderson of the SAU at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5324.

“This is just such a despicable event after seeing the girl and how tiny she was and how beaten up she was, it’s just despicable.”

Fellow students from Sinclair High School were shocked to hear what allegedly happened to their classmate.

“It’s kind of freaky that there are people like that out there in the world,” said student Bukhtar Khan.

Police spent Monday afternoon combing the scene and canvassing the neighbourhood.

“We were out there the whole time and didn't hear or see anything until she appeared,” said Jack.

“We want people to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings, but we have no information that this was anything other than an isolated attack,” said Staff Sgt. James Stewart-Haass of Durham Regional Police.

Two suspects are described as:
•male
•white
•in his 20s
•wearing baggy clothing
Suspect #3 is described as:
•male
•black
•in his 20s
•wearing baggy clothing.
Police are looking for witnesses. If you can help, call police 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5324 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

This is just so sickening. What happened to the days when a group of umemployed and bored 20 somethings would get their kicks from stealing a vehicle and going for a joy ride?

That poor girl, just sitting in a park at midday eating her lunch and this happens?!?

This just raises the bar on what is happening with today's youth. And I still believe that it was someone in this age range that murdered Sonia.

MOO

Me too r.e. Sonia.

There sickos likely did something stupid like film this on their phone to re-live it. That seems to be the latest sick craze amongst young gang rapists. I hope they are caught soon.
