Case Review #1: Thread #3: LE Press Conferences & Release: June 7 2010

The FBI profiler brought in from Quantico (part of the CARD Team) profiled Kyron as a 'wanderer'. Where did the profiler get his/her information to make that characterization? Sounds like mom and dad gave opposite information. IMO profiling Kyron as a wanderer changed the investigation dramatically. moo

ETA: http://www.katu.com/news/local/95725809.html

Eyes, is that the right URL for the profiler saying Kyron was a wanderer? I don't see it.

TIA

There is nothing at that link about an FBI profiler describing Kyron as a wanderer. In fact, there is nothing on that page about an FBI profiler saying anything about Kyron.

Sorry, I've questioned his being labeled a 'wanderer' this entire investigation. I've lost all my saved links, so I'll try to find it. I'll go back in the threads because I commented on it all through the investigation, wondering where 'wandering' came from. If I can't find it, I'll delete my comments and stay away from this thread. Sorry once again for interrupting. moo mho

afternoon's press briefing.
The FBI has brought a vast array of resources to help the search for 7-year-old Kyron Horman today including launching its Child Abduction Rapid Deployment Team. It's a regional team although they have flown in members from across the country, including a Quantico-based profiler who is on-site to help develop a complete profile of the boy.

ETA: Sorry - I used the wrong link in my comment - I will ETA and put this link in. I"m off to find his 'wandering' status.

:grouphug:

You asked if anyone else ever said Kyron was adventuresome. I'm too tired today to multi-quote.

"He loves to go on adventures, but he has to do it with family," says Kaine.

http://www.people.com/people/archive/article/0,,20399962,00.html

Not something you have to resolve today, since it's only an offshoot of the case review, not really an integral part of it.

All this dialogue has convinced me of, including Kaine's quote there, is that Kyron is pretty timid and everyone who knows him is aware of it.

For some reason I am unable to find links about the intense search in the woods behind the school. This is where Kyron was referred to as a wanderer. moo

I'll delete my comments if everyone else will delete their quotes of me. That way it will make sense to those reading the thread. TIA

More notes from the second presser video.

In the beginning, Gates says there are still some staff and parents that haven't come in. Gates says LE will contact them if they don't come in.

Then later in the Q&A:

- reporter asks about not having had more of the parents and staff come forward than the 60%. Gates starts explaining, being kind and understanding, but what's funny is that he says they're a tight-knit community, tight-knit school, and this is the first time they've had to do something like this.
But the thing is, tight-knit, you would think they'd have been more eager to come forward and help one of their own, a family in that community and school.

I'd always taken it as this community doesn't want anybody outside the community to know their business so to speak. It never occurred to me until now that they didn't want LE to know their business either.

Gates stresses over and over how cooperative the family is. I'm going to have to listen closer for if he says anything more like this that indicates the community and school was not entirely cooperative.

That reminds me in turn of the reports that people in the community weren't allowing LE to search their properties.

When I see indications like Gates is saying that there's a lack of cooperation, then I start to wonder if there's something more, bigger, that people don't want anybody to find out.

Yes, I remember that lack of cooperation issue. Baffled me , a 7 year old cild was missing... IMO someone had something to hide.

I have been searching for the origin of the statement made at the beginning of the case : Kyron was afraid of LEO's.. Cannot find it.Does anyone know ? TIA

Intel posted news of Kyron's disappearance on its internal Circuits online newsletter over the weekend, and updated the posting today and sent it to all its sites in the U.S. MacKenzie says employees are extremely concerned for their colleague's family and are posting messages of support to Circuits.

http://blog.oregonlive.com/siliconforest/2010/06/intel_employees_praying_for_co.html

Horman’s father, Kaine Horman, works at Intel and sent an e-mail to co-workers throughout the region that encouraged them to do what they could to spread the word about his son’s disappearance.

“Forward Kyron's information to as many people as you feel comfortable with,” he wrote. The more people that see this will increase our chances of finding him. Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers for Kyron's safe return."

Probably different reasons people didn't want to cooperate. Some people just don't want to get involved. I don't want to stereotype an entire region but I did notice living out West that people tend to keep to themselves more, at least more than in the South where I grew up and live now. In Seattle they call it the Seattle Chill. I'm not familiar with the Portland area though. I saw an interview with a man on a local Portland station, standing in front of a nice house, who talked about helping find that kid if LE asked something of him but he didn't seem very convincing.

Also there are a lot of people who are very paranoid about the government. I've never understood it but people are that way. And then there are probably a small subset who distrust the police because of things in their history or illegal activities they are up to now.

Whose side does the aunt come from?

Interesting that in one of the PC's Gates gives a no comment to the question about a transient camp in the area.

Just wanted to say I'm sorry for the late start on the thread today. I'll do my best to get tomorrow's up earlier.

I'm only halfway through the news articles, and I haven't even begun to go through our 6/7 WS thread.

Earlier start tomorrow, and I need to take fewer breaks too lol.

Here's some :coffee: and  for everybody. :)
