I always thought felons gave up the right to exercise free will when they were proven unable to control free will. As in anyone who rapes and/or murders in the pursuit of their own pleasure. Anyone who intentionally harms a hair on the head of a child. Anyone who deprives a family the company of their loved one/s. Anyone who plans the harm to another for financial gain. Anyone who decides murder is less expensive than alimony or child support. I could go on and on but I'm sure you get my drift.

Our detention system is far from perfect, as it will be as long as it is run by imperfect people. But 99.99% of the time the treatment is 100% better than what the victims of the criminals received.

I didn't realize people sitting on DEATH ROW had letter writing privileges to whomever they choose?? Seriously?

I didn't realize people sitting on death row had free access to TV and other forms of media!

Am I invisible? Gosh, I don't think I've EVER had a response from any of my posts in quite some time.

I'm beginning to feel very lonely :(

You are not invisible, AprilShowers - it happens often in a busy thread. People do respond if you ask a quesion. :)

I thought there was some sort of rule that they could not write to other inmates...I could be wrong..going to look.

this is my understanding as well...at least in california.

if the were communicating it would have to be thru a 3rd party. he/she would have to send the letter to someone on the "outside" then the person from the outside would have to re-write it and send to him/her...

the thought of it actually happening...makes me sick.

...but i am really willing to call BS on this one.

Well, naughty SP will be getting a visit from the warden instructing him to cease and desist the fan mail to KC as per her attorney's request.

Found this:

Anthony seems to display the same kind of misguided self-confidence or narcissism that was evident in Scott Peterson. Peterson (and it seems Anthony) was a bad liar because his lack of empathy also meant he lacked sensitivity to how others would judge his tall tales. It may well be the case that Anthony, too, has trouble telling convincing lies because she can’t intuit how her audience–whether police or a jury–will “hear” them (whether they will ring true).

Here: http://health.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/10/22/dr-keith-inside-the-mind-of-casey-anthony/

I like that description and think it's probably pretty accurate. Casey sounds SO ridiculous when she lies -- ie her response to the 911 operator re: not reporting Caylee missing..."I was using other resources to find her." um. okay.:furious:

About the alleged epistolary relationship:
I think I remember Peterson writing to Kristin Rossum when she was convicted -- maybe it's Scott's thing to send out the welcome wagon to all relatively attractive women who killed a family member? Maybe he sees himself as a One Man Welcome Wagon?

Scott is allowed to have a TV but the prison doesn't provide it for him. His parents brought him a little 13 inch TV when he was first sentenced. He is also allowed to write to other inmates. There was another female murderer that he was writing to for a while, Kristin Rossum.

Why is Baez screening Casey's mail? Usually someone at the jail does that.

Bolded by me. Hey, Chilly. I'm sure LE has dibs on first screening rights. JB must be doing it to spare KC the trauma of reading the hate mail she most certainly is receiving:boohoo:

Well, we certainly wouldn't want to traumatize the baby killer, would we? JB really does go above and beyond.

If this is true and he is able to communicate with her without it being subjected to public view, then can't her family be communicating with her in the same manner? Would he be writing to her through the post or email? Does anyone know how this works?

the public can't look at it but the jail and prison can

ETA- I mean the letters from Scott if he sent them. If they came by way of JB they can't look at them.

Awww, wouldn't that be sweet if Scott P and Casey became penpals? She's just right for him ... now that she got rid of her pesky burden of a child. They could have a glorious life together, er, I mean apart...

They could compare notes on lying, cheating, killing, body disposal, the right resolutions, psycho parents and so many, many other things that until now have been unapproachable for him to discuss with other girls.

YUCK!

Good article April.

Could this be why she just keeps her mouth shut all the time? That has really bugged me about her, I have two daughters plus two of their friends who have lived with us, into their early twenties. They never shut up. No one can get a word in edgewise around them. But how often do we even hear KC's voice? At times I wanted to scream at the tv, say something in your own defense, plead for your daughter's return. Just stop that vacant stare!!

Maybe JB's smarter than we've given him credit for?

I hear ya ... as much as I hate to say it ... my husband is a bit like this. We live separately now ... and I'm considering filing for legal separation soon, but it's a very painful thing to live with.
