A
If it was electrical tape maybe someone who uses it for their job and had it in their car?
A pro user is definitely a possibility.

But.... a good number of the members of the "older car club" keep a roll or two in their tool boxes. Electrical tape just comes in handy for a variety of impromptu fixes.

The difference between a pro user and a more casual user would likely be in the brand. As other users have pointed out, there is a big difference between discount duct tape and say, Gorilla Glue duct tape.

Electrical tape has the same quality difference. I have dollar store electrical tape in my car. I doubt an electrician or a pro cable guy etc. would be caught with it.

Right, and some sketches wind up looking nothing like the actual suspect. It was said he had blond hair, but I'm wondering how you can tell with the cap.
The hair might not have been too short to notice that.

Using the boxing promotion term "Tales of the tape" for reach, height, weight etc. comparisons....

A photo of the suspects car seems to indicate that the tape job over the license plate is neatly done and the tape color is not black.

Discount electrical tape is almost always black and as its inexpensive, its really too thin. It tends to fold over on itself when it breaks off the roll leaving folded over "tails" of the torn piece.

Getting to the point, discount electrical tape is hard to tear neatly. Given the apparent neat tears and non black tape in the photo, if he used electrical tape, it was likely the quality variety.

Just a thought I had, but everyone here talking about how hard it is to rip duct tape...if he used a knife in the crimes couldn't he have just used that to cut the tape?

I don’t paint cars but could people use the electrical tape for painting cars? Like keeping lines straight. The cheap or ghetto way?..

AFAIK, no pictures of the car have been officially released. Any sightings might have been a similar vehicle. IMO, that's why they don't specify the direction of travel yet. I wonder how much is actually known by police ATM. Some info will be withheld.

The only thing I could think of as to why the fingerless glove is to maybe cover tattoo's yet maybe give a better grip of a knife? IMO.

Could also be bicycling gloves.

or dirt bike/motorcycle fingerless gloves - more popular for hot Summer days than the full coverage glove.

Investigators say the suspect in the deaths likely sustained an injury while attacking the couple.
I think this likely means there was a confrontation/scuffle first and he has pulled a knife (the two girls probably saw the scuffle and that’s why police believe he sustained injuries)

Either that or there were 3 peoples blood at the scene (the two victims and the murderer)

Hoping for the latter as that will mean DNA.

Murders on the run. Arkansas hiking shooter. Travis Decker. Aron Rojas, Minnesota killer.

Sure there are more, but these are recent. Maybe there should be posters at truck stops.

Snipped for focus.
I had thought of the robbery motive, either from addiction or hunger. There was a case years ago where an older male had gone to some hiking trails to randomly attack for just this motive, to get credit cards, and attacked and abducted a woman hiking with her dog. So robbery can definitely be a motive. Of course the 2 little girls being present complicates things, but maybe he was tired of waiting and thought that made the couple more vulnerable?
Done a lot of hiking on long distance trails. Mostly left credit cards well-hidden in vehicle, and didn't take much cash. Seems to me a person who wanted $ would find other victims.

I agree this does not sound like robbery.

I'd think a robber would be more likely to watch people in the parking lot and pick out someone of possible affluence by their car model. In that scenario, I'd think the perp would not choose a family with children.

I think the perp has visited this park several times, probably within the last month. I hope there might be CCTV of an entrance or parking kiosk, or of a close-by traffic camera.

Yes, agreed. I wonder if investigators will be able to make some sort of connection between the suspect and the couple. DNA left at the crime scene could identity him. Identity of the suspect is a huge necessity to help clear up whether it was random or a targeted attack.

The state park is a popular place for mountain biking apparently so that kinda tracks.
Maybe he’s a cyclist that was banned from the park for some reason but came back and tried hiding it by covering his license plate.
Yet no one mentioned the guy having a bike with him. Also it seems like the park rangers would know who he is already.
That sounds like an unlikely scenario to me but it’s food for thought I guess.

This is going to be a tough case I think. The delay in reporting the attack. The delay in finding the bodies. The delay in investigators arriving. All due to the circumstances and remoteness of where it took place. The killer was miles away before LE even got there.

Yes, unfortunately he's had time to ditch the car and change his clothes and look.

I could totally be reading into this, but I feel that the family’s statement that Clinton and Cristen ‘died heroes, protecting their little girls’ is telling. IMO this was likely a Delphi-style creep or someone like Craig Ross Jr, who kidnapped and assaulted a 9 year old opportunistically in 2023 while she was biking at a campground. The only thing that throws a ‘wrench’ in that idea for me is the presence of the parents. I guess time will tell. This is seriously horrible. It feels more and more to me that in the US, there’s no where we can go that is truly safe. Not our place of work, not a restaurant or club, and not even our beautiful parks. I’ve gone from being extremely reluctant to carry my firearm, to carrying it almost everywhere I go. What a world. MOO.
