Here is a snip of what I found on air scent dogs.

Air Scent Tracking dogs
Air scent dogs track odors in the air versus ground and are better suited for open parks and fields for tracking lost humans. Air scent dogs don't necessarily need a trail to follow a scent and are invaluable for work areas that are older, have been tampered with or have had a lot of other activity.

Perhaps they had someone in mind from the get go...

this is a missing kid in a wilderness area.... they hadn't even investigated so that does not make sense.

Usually LE will do a presser to get the word out.

I think it is just how they operate in a general sense. Not to mention this was a very small agency. The fbi was not involved right away

I thought the same thing.
I think (JMO) He purchased a fishing pole also. And this COULD be why we dont see him in the Walmart pic because LE dosent want to release that info.

And I think the cell pinged at the lake too!
Only at an earlier time.

LE already said they were searching the lake not because of any tip but to be thorough.
Cell phone wouldn't be pinging from the lake because it will be dead in the water, and dead phones don't ping.

The Task Force is still requesting any recreational video footage or photographs that include vehicles traveling on any routes between Durango and Vallecito Lake, taken between 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 18 through noon on Monday November 19.

They could be looking for video footage of MR's vehicle.

If LE wants to see footage of MR's vehicle - whether to see when he arrived in Vallecito Lake or to see if he was being followed - why haven't they given the public a description of the vehicle he was driving? It would certainly narrow down what footage would actually be relevant.

There is a reason they are focused on that lake. And yes there is a dam there and the area where the cadaver dogs hit was at the dam if I'm not mistaken. There has been much debate about whether or not scent dogs (not cadaver dogs) were used and from what I read yesterday, yes tracking bloodhounds were brought in. They keep going back to that lake for a reason. Remember they are probably not releasing every bit of info they have to us-Joe public.

So do you know where the water from the dam spills into? Here ours spills over into a large river.

One thing I have learned is you have to read LE's statements very carefully. They usually will not out and out lie but they word their statements very carefully. THEY WERE SEARCHING THE LAKE NOT BECAUSE OF ANY TIP. This does not rule out other information they may have gathered in the investigation.

You are assuming the cell phone was in the water when it pinged? This may not have even been Dylan's cell phone pinging. If they did have any pings at the lake that is.

I really doubt there is that much footage from people driving between 8 pm Sunday and 12 pm Monday in that remote area. They will be lucky to get any footage.

Interesting. Are they trained differently or are they typically a specific breed?

Huh?

I think the phone went dead when it went into the water!
I dont think his phone battery died but that just my opinion.
It was off on the plane id guess he charged it before he left.

but thats JMO

That's exactly why I said it was "typical" in most cases, but this one wasn't perceived immediately as an abduction, but only abduction as a "possibility", along with running away, drowning, etc. so not enough to cause a press release and draw attention like most of these cases do on day one. It might just be my perception of the case, but I think this actually lost the investigation a week's time....which also accounts for no press conf/release from LE in the beginning...they still weren't exactly sure what they had :banghead:
JMO and speculations about the strange LE response in this case.

bbm, Absolutely agree with this.

I know they are all trained differently according to what type of scent dog they are. I would think the breeds would be the same that they choose for other scent dogs but I really dont know for sure Linda.

I am not sarx but have learned from both sarx and oriah it is training not breed. They follow pools of scent in the air vs the ground.

For all we know (and this is purely speculation) they have a receipt from Walmart showing Dad did purchase a fishing pole for Dylan. So they believe Dylan may have got up the next morning and decided to go fishing before Dad got home. Perhaps they have a possible POI and their cell phone pinged at the lake. Trust me, they know more then they are telling us.

But why didn't he call his friends....or anyone? Doesn't make sense.

They wont do that.
They wont tell ppl what he was driving they want eyewitness accounts this way they wont get a version someone read in the news.
Oh I saw his car bla bla bla.
they wont do it.

me too :-( I also tend to think the whole dog conundrum could be part of this as well (meaning not well organized at the beginning)

Here's the thing. MR has been cooperative with LE up til now. If they are looking at him as a possible POI they don't want to do anything to alert him of this.

Cell phone would ping AT the lake. Of course not IN the lake.
