I thought something was said about this, somewhere, but I think it turned out to be unconfirmed speculation. I looked through the awesome timeline that has been done and I didn't see it mentioned there.

Yes.... this would be very good information to have. I would also like to know about the landline at MR's house and what articles of clothing were there.

If the phone was literally smoking, then I have another theory. Maybe a Genie came out of the phone Monday a.m. and told Dylan it would grant him any wish. Maybe Dylan's wish was to be somewhere else and...nah! Don't think that one will hold up.

I know at least a few of us saw it in a MSM article, but it was gone when I went back to look for it.

She did say it was older, but who knows what that means. Old is relative with cell phones. My phone was less than two years old when they ushered out a new model and discontinued all my accessories (Still a bit miffed about that-I LIKE my phone and it works fine). Older could just mean a 1-3 years old which in cellphone land is sort of old, but not what we would typically consider "old" in real life?

Does that make sense?

It wasn't fancy enough for a teenager-doesn't mean it was old or didn't work well.

I think you may be right because surely she would not let her son use a phone that was burning up in his hands. But that is what she said and that is what I was commenting on. It is a figure of speech, kind of like raining cats and dogs, but I think she was also using it in the context of saying it was an old phone and just about worn out. DR needed a new phone and that is what I think she was saying. And that is a definite possibility as to why the phone went dead. And I believe the most probable one. jmo

If ER really thought the phone was on it's last leg (just a metaphor), wouldn't she have bought Dylan a new phone before his trip? Even if she wanted to buy him a really nice phone but wait until Xmas to give it to him, why wouldn't she buy him a cheap phone just to take on the trip? At least she'd know he had one that was working. IMO, if ER really believed the phone was about to die, she wouldn't have sent it with Dylan on the trip. She would've gotten him a disposable phone to use that week. IMO

When LE stated that Dylan did not run away, due in great part to the fact that he was no longer using his phone in his usual pattern; did they base this on phone records or on Mom's statements, I wonder? Seems they like said this fairly early on.

I just wonder if Mom may have said he uses it constantly, but that was not strictly correct, kind of like phone was "smoking" may not have been literal. I've been basing all of my thoughts on the fact that he was not using his phone all night and day, but maybe he wasn't truly a phone addict? Is that possible?

(I still think he would have contacted his friends upon waking on Monday, though.)

I am sure by constantly she meant frequently. He texted friends, he was active in on-line accounts. When he showed up on Sunday, and father told him it was too late to go see friends, he let them know that he was going to see them on Monday instead.
And yet on Monday, after he missed his ride with his father, he didn't contact friends to at least let them know he was going to be late.

I had remembered reading this but could never find it again. I ran across it again today while reading the Timeline post #5 reported by ABC News. this is why I have always thought the dogs followed scent from house or close by. jmo

That is one of my biggest fears and probably the reason I am not more attacking of MR right now. I don't like when cases get tunnel vision too fast because I feel like it tints the entire case when that happens.

I had to eat crow twice-first with Gail Palmgren and her husband and second with Sierra Lamar's mother's boyfriend especially when her mother started contradicting herself during interviews about the boyfriend and timing. I think that is a great example of stress and not being trained to speak to the public affecting speech and sometimes leading to contradictions that are just mistakes and not incriminating evidence.

I didn't feel nearly as suspicious of Sierras mom and stepdad as I do of MR. Once I learned that the stepdad was seen at work that morning I let it go. But I have to admit it bugged me that mom let her walk all alone to a bus stop where she was the ONLY kid waiting. That bugged me. But I don't always feel suspicious of the parents. I am always very open to the other scenarios. But this case in particular, I can't shake my gut feeling about dad.

It's all relative. To someone of an older generation, doing something "constantly" may just mean "often", just like "tech saavy" could mean "they know how to turn on the computer and play games on their Xbox."
