To me it meant he's not the type of kid that would go on a nature hike deep into the woods by himself (or a 4 mile hike to go fishing by himself). How many people would? And how many 13 year olds would? I love to fish, but walk 4 miles by myself to a lake? Heck no!!
I'm not Dylan, and it's been a long time since I was his age, but: When I was younger, I was a pretty sociable person. I preferred doing 'nothing' with a friend to doing 'something' by myself. Because of that, not in spite of it, I probably would have walked a few miles to a friend's house rather than spend an hour or two sitting by myself. Four miles wasn't far to me when I was young (in spite of growing up in Minneapolis). When I was 8 or maybe even younger, friends and I walked about 2 miles to a lake to swim or just go on nature walks through Theodore Wirth Park. By Dylan's age, I was living in a small town, and thought nothing of walking 3.5 miles alone to a neighboring lake when none of my friends were around.
MR told KOAT news that investigators took a pair of Dylan's sweatpants, his Ipod and a Nerf football the two tossed around Sunday night

Between you and Amandareckonwith (sp?), we seem to have a great go to person for most threads when information is needed. Thanks for being so quick with the info here. I didn't think YouTube was allowed except for MSM videos, but I've seen a lot of them posted. I hope someone answers that for you.

What the hay Paul! Where does that statement come from?
she wasnt born in prehistoric ages!.
Kids are AVID texters!
So are most of the parents!
and many grandparents!
I wasn't born in prehistoric ages either, but nobody carried around cell phones while I was growing up! Okay, maybe it was close to prehistoric ages. I have to admit that I'm really surprised by a lot of things posted here. I know a lot of kids, from newborn to 40 years old (yes, I do consider some of them to be kids), and I can't think of anything that everyone I know at any age does. I personally know at least 40 kids within a year of Dylan's age, not just being aware of them, and very few of them even own a cell phone. I know a couple of my nieces have kids in their young teens - two 10 year olds, one 11 year old, three 12 year olds, two 13 year olds, one 14 year old, one 15 year old, and one 16 year old. The 14 year old did get his own phone for Christmas in 2011, partially to keep in touch with his mother's family who were all long distance. None of the kids younger than that have their own phones, and only the 14, 14 and 16 year olds are allowed to have an account on a social media site. My point? I know Dylan isn't like any of these kids, so I try not to assume he'd behave like they do. I also don't believe he's exactly like any of the children, neighbors, relatives, or whatever, of other members, so I also don't expect him to behave just like any of them. I hope that makes sense.
He was probably paraphrased by the media - but I recall something about a nerf football they had tossed around that evening.... being collected in the search.
When I read it I just imagined that being a nerf ball it could have just been tossed from one to the other across the living room or something similar. I thought it was good news as it could have helped show Dylan did make it to dad's house.
:moo:
The first thing I thought when I read it was that one of them made a remark to the other one, and the person it was said to threw the football at him. The one hit with the ball picked it up and threw it back. Maybe half in jest and half in irritation. I could see calling that tossing a ball around to avoid explaining it and maybe having people see it as something worse than it was. MOO
