He could be anywhere in that lake and Ive read it is deep. If it has a dam then it has currents and undertows. The body would not stay stationary. It would sink and then skirt along on the lake bottom and even get caught up in debris like tree stumps or be trapped in a large opening or crevis. How long did it take them to even search this lake? A body immediately sinks once all the air leaves the lungs and cold water drowning victims dont rise until spring when the water begins to warm.

My neighbor jumped into a lake near our home. There were witnesses that saw her go in and not come up. 911 was called and a search was immediately done including using water dogs in boats to detect human scent and this went on for over two months when the weather permitted (it happened at Christmastime). They absolutely knew she was in there but they never found her body.

IMO

OK so where is his backpack and fishing pole?

You don't think Dylan would have tried to contact Ryan to let him know he was coming later and wouldn't have realized the phone needed to be charged at that point?

I cant read the mind of a 13 year old boy I dont even know. Do I think he would act as responsibly as an adult and call his friend? Possibly and possibly not.

I said that is one possibility but the one I really think happened is an 'abduction' that LE has put on the table and has never taken off.

My brother in law took his kids to the garage at 13 and put the shop vac up to their head, when they asked him what he was doing (and looking at him very oddly) he would say, "you're 13 I have to suck your brains out and you can get them back when you are 24"

Everyone would laugh, but it's true as teenagers they change moment by moment. linda Blair was nothing compared to teens

Oh I know! I use to call it "The Invasion of the Body Snatchers". My kids went into their room one night when they were 13 and came out the next day looking like my kid, but everything they said and did was NOT my child. It's like a switch got flipped in them and I didn't know who they were anymore. Nothing I taught them seemed to have stuck, everything I said went in one ear and out the other. Scary times, those teenage years.

But why the heck would he try to hike 4 miles one way to a lake, when his Dad
was only an hour or so from returning home?

Wouldnt he at least leave a note telling his Dad he was at the lake, so Dad could get him on the way? Or so that Dad wouldnt leave without him, if he returned home first?

How did Dylan think he was going to have timed to hike 8 miles in total AND fish, and still make it home before his Dad returned?

I do not have children yet and i hope i do not get that. If i was anything to go by tho yes i should be "very" afraid :floorlaugh:

Oh yes, be very afraid. It's just this weird phenomenon. They go in the room your sweet child and Godzilla comes out the next day.

Isn't Dylan going fishing only speculation? I mean the only thing Dylan's father said is that his pole was missing, right? The rest is just speculation?

I wonder what Dylan and his friends were going to do on Monday?

They spent a lot of time searching the lake at the beginning. And MR criticized LE for not searching the lake sooner, because he told them from day one the fishing pole was missing. So he seemed to be implying that his son would be found there, imo.

I'm just wondering why Dylan would go on a mini fishing trip when he was in a hurry to get to his friends? I'm not buying that story. I think he is in the lake, but was put there....that night. I'm really hoping I am wrong.

I thought they were going to play baseball.
Was that a guess or was it reported somewhere ?

And the crime is ALWAYS solved in an hour on these shows.

Hey now, sometimes there's a good multi-episode story arc!;)

What does smoking gun mean ?

It means that the proof is so clear that you can't deny. It's an expression used when a crime happens.
"Smoking gun" = the gun used in the murder is still hot and in your hands.:put em up:

What does smoking gun mean ?

Smoking gun ? Is a term used in the US for something like
absolute proof. If you went to a crime scene and someone
is standing there with a literal smoking gun in their hand
and a dead person witha bullet hole in front of them, then
you can assume they shot and killed that person. So it's
come to be known as absolute proof that someone is
guilty . So in this case for instance, if they found dylans'
cell phone smashed into pieces hidden under MR's mattress,
or they found the cell and it had texts saying ' help me '
it would be known as a ' smoking gun' or close to it .

That was a mistake by a transcriber.

From what I read, the boys were just hanging out with each other, with no specific plans. R texted D at 10 am that morning to say he left his grandma's and was at their other friends home, and to meet him there.

I'll say one thing, if one of my kids made plans with their friends for 6:30 am, they are on their own, I am not getting up to take them anywhere at 6:30 am and I don't care how set in stone those plans were.

As far as batteries: I have 4 grandchildren who will sit and vigorously play on their DS's and not pay attention to battery life. All of a sudden one will die and then I'll have 4 grandkids with 3 DS's and we have an emergency situation until that other one is charged. Kids do not pay attention to battery life of their electronics.

What does smoking gun mean ?

It's a figure of speech meaning that it would be proof, undeniable proof that something happened.

Here in the states we use it as in if a dead body is on the floor, and the person standing over them has a smoking gun and the person on the floor has a gunshot, then that's proof who shot them.

The good news is that, usually, they return to their bodies at 19 0r 20, and they are mature, sensible, grown ups and they even laugh at how silly they were at 16. Hopefully anyway. { Mine did that and I hope they stay this sensible.]

No, Bayfield was reported in NG transcripts as baseball...
