I don't know what they were ' supposed' to discuss. But I would think they would discuss their plans for the week, since MR didn't seem to have anything set in place.

He told the family friend who ran the FB that they discussed Thanksgiving plans. [ according to what she said on NG.]

But then in an interview he said they didnt have any plans yet, according to what he said in that video store interview.

I will have to go find those quotes, but he definetly said that.

Why would a truck driver want a smart phone? Because he could have wifi wherever he was while on the road. I would think that would be a priority.

The only time I really appreciate my smart phone is when I am out and about and I have an emergency. JMO

Smart phone or not there was no reception in the area. Or only limited. They aren't that smart. jmo

Call me stupid, but I have a smart phone and I dont' have the GPS on. At least I don't think I do. Maybe it is something I am not familar with. I thought it was used to get directions to somewhere. Is that wrong? tia

I think that some confusion comes from peoples understanding of how cell phones work vs what kind of information cell phone companies retain for billing purposes.

Historical records of calls are used to bill for services. I can see a phone company tracking phone usage in an area to see if they need to install more towers, but I don't believe that they track individuals movements from tower to tower and save them in a database.

Maybe some are thinking of the "tracking" done on Casey Anthony using her phone records. That was able to be done because she never stopped talking and texting for more than a couple of hours at a time. MOO.

I guess my main question is what if there was no cell phone involved at all. Would this be a mystery that could not be solved. Can we think out of the box and find answers? The cell phone drives me crazy. Maybe DR was involved with talking and visiting with his dad and that's why his texts were limited and short. What is wrong with thinking that? Why does it have to be so ominous? jmo

Because his mother says that Dylan would not just quit communicating with people. If it were only off from 8 pm until the next morning it wouldn't seem as ominous. But it wasn't, and it does.

He probably used his phone and that's how they tracked him to that area. I'm sure that governments like Australia and the USA have the ability to do "real time" tracking of people by using their phones, but do our governments do that for all citizens all of the time? I hope not. That would be a bit much. MOO.

The companies DO keep recent ping/interaction with cell tower information for at least a short period of time.

Do you happen to remember years back (probably around 2005-07) when that teen was abducted from the Target (I remember the surveillance footage of her in shorts and a spaghetti strap top)? Her abductor took her over state lines into Missouri IIRC, and they found her body by using the records of the cell tower "Pings" from her phone and that's how they figured out she was out-of-state. [I'm sorry I can't remember her name right now. I mostly remember an argument I had with some chauvinistic pig saying she was dressed "too skimpy" (sorry, totally OT, but that's why I remember her case).]

ETA: I found the case I was speaking of... The young woman's name was Kelsey Smith, and the perp was Edwin Roy Hall. It took Verizon four days to release the records to LE in her search. They located her body 1.1 miles away from the last tower they passed... Here is an except from the Kelsey Smith's Wikipedia Page.

Well, not the government - at least not officially, or without a warrant... But, the cell companies keep track of everything. As I said, at least for a short amount of time WRT tower pings. People would be very surprised if they knew just how much LE or the Gov't proper can access from one's cell phone.

Lots of political tensions over these very issues WRT the 4th Amendment and such many times...

My smartphone has GPS but I can turn it off and on whenever I want. Sometimes I turn it off and forget about it until I need the GPS to find something, then it will tell me I have to turn it on.

I did find some direct quotes from websleuths, and a post calling the people who post here something like trashsleuths. So, that was interesting, I guess.

Somewhere in the back of my mind I always have the hope that Dylan is out there somewhere. That some family member has him. Anybody else ever have that feeling or is that just wishful thinking on my part?

I know it's been way too long and I know Dylan would not be where ever because he wants to be there.

It's like an itch I just can't scratch.

Perhaps it's called hope and maybe a lot of people feel that way about a lot of kids that have gone missing. Sigh.

I want to think the same thing as I did with Lyrica and Elizabeth and Jessica. I have my own theories which I am not allowed to say. I am praying for his family and really praying for his safe return to his Mother's loving arms. I want to see the video of Wallmart, I know Dylan must have been very tired after such a long journey.
