Right now on IS Jodi Ariass trial there is a man testify from Verizon about the information on a cell report for a particular number. He is explaining time, dates, and cell towers. Interesting. jmo
There is a difference between pinging and tracking gps coordinates and there is also a difference between a phone with GPS and one without. From what I can gather...
Pinging is when it bounces off towers and triangulation is used to narrow down a general location. Pings are available on phones with and without GPS but it only shows the last general area for a phone.
GPS gives an exact location of the phone. Obviously it is only available on phones with this ability and those with the GPS option turned on. (I know on my iphone I can turn it on or off) I suspect the companies storing geographical information for a year is referring to phones with GPS. I'm not 100% sure.
I think the only important cell info is the fact that Dylans went silent around 8 pm
I would love to know where MR said they were at 8 pm.
According to LE Dylan's phone was shut off at 8pm Sunday so they are unable to track it after that. Does that mean it was disabled; as in the battery removed/or needing to be replaced or the phone was destroyed? Or does it simply mean the phone was shut off for whatever reason?
Agreed. I would love to know about MR's phone. And we can assume that LE has this information. Still no arrest, so there can't be anything too incriminating...or could there be?
Bessie had some wonderful current info. and I believe it talked about storage as well, but I wouldn't know where to look for the links. It was a few threads ago IIRC.
Why did his phone go silent?
Why take a fishing pole?
Why take everything he came there with?
Makes no sense to me!

I agree it's odd but it's possible that;
He shut off the phone due to no reception at Dads?
He thought he and the friends might go fishing?
He was going to stay a few days with the friends?
We just don't know enough. That's why I'm trying to figure out if the phone simply could have been turned off (as LE stated) or was it not functioning for whatever reason.
That's early for someone his age who used his phone often, IMO.
I've asked several times, but wanted to check again. Has anyone found a link for LE saying (even if not a direct quote - just anything from MSM or a press release) that Dylan's phone was shut off at 8pm? Or anything from LE saying anything about Dylan's phone in conjunction with 8pm? Thanks
I'm going to kiss youand add one more too. Although not a direct quote, it's one of the few things reported as coming from LE about the phone.
The La Plata County Sheriffs Department says the boys cell phone has been turned off for several days, and they cant track it down.
