IA, first shocked and panic set in and you just can't think. You are trying to think of where he could be, what he could be doing. By the time he got to the Marshall's Office, he was probably beside himself, especially after finding out Elaine hadn't heard from him either. Your mind shuts down so you don't feel the panic and devastation.
More shall be revealed. As time has gone by, I'm sure he's remembering more details about his short time with Dylan. There is not instant recall to everything that was said and done at that moment. IMO
I disagree. My very good friends DD went missing last summer. She came over to show me the note she left on her bed. And she thought back to their conversation the night before. She was very upset but her mind did not shut down. She was hyper, if anything. She was recalling lots of details, hoping something would help her figure out where her daughter ran away to and with whom.
I went to the Police station with her and she was able to recall their most recent interactions and the names of possible people involved. I think there is a sort of 'instant' recall when there is an emergency. JMO
