I think he has a laptop.

Not because it's what I have, but due to the logistics of it. If someone is on the road 3 weeks out of every month, it would make sense to have a laptop. He may have both, but I'd bet ya my hubbie's dog that he has a lappie.

I certainly feel that Dylan could have overslept on Monday morning. After his dad gave up on trying to get him up he finally rises and grabs his phone and discovers that not only is it dead but plugging in the charger does no good.

He doesn't have his friends numbers memorized so he can't call them on the landline. Dylan knows that his friends are waiting for him and he doesn't want to wait for his dad to get back.

So he decides to do what he has done in the past. Hitchhike. He take's his backpack with all of his stuff so that he could stay overnight at his friends if his dad say's it ok. Out the door he goes and he's never seen again. MOO.

He can use his iPod account tho which he had and why on earth would be set out on foot when he had no idea where R would of been at that stage . So he could of arrived there and no R . So a pretty pointless track !

Makes more more logical sense with a broken phone to wait for MR and to explain the situation . Also IMO Dylan would of left the dead phone and charger back at the house and would not of bothered to take with him as It was broken .

This from TxJan's transcript:

'You know, in one place he might be he can’t get service and then he could take a step to the left or a step to the right and voila all of a sudden he has service, and the two places he told me he could get service was from the corner of the couch where he was sitting, which has been changed, but right by the TV there, and my room. Well, he didn’t go into my room. He went upstairs for a few things – brought the DVD player down so we could watch that movie that he wanted to watch."

See, I interpreted MR's bolded comment as meaning that Dylan didn't necessarily go into MR's room to specifically use his cell, but did go up to fetch the dvd player. Again, I'm surprised to see someone point this out as being an inconsistency.

I feel we are all, probably unconsciously looking for different things in what we read, watch or hear. I admit I tend to notice lots of things that make me breath a little sigh of relief because they fit with my (ever hopeful) feeling that MR isn't responsible for whatever happened to Dylan. I have been totally repulsed by the amount of venom directed MR's way without actual evidence. If LE had found anything like a broken phone, a blood stain in a truck, the backpack stashed in the woods - then I would be suspicious of MR if he had tried to explain these things away. But that just isn't the case so far.

Also, though I don't believe the landline question is really that important -is ER really the best source to confirm MR has one? I really don't believe she has been dishonest -but how would she know if MR has one or not? I know lots of people who have forgone their home landlines in the past years because cell phone packages have become more attractive and economical. IDK - maybe she has his landline number and has used it to communicate with him in the recent past, in which case I stand corrected.

I was hesitant about this theory when I thought that the 9:37 PM text was done via iPod. But since it looks like that text was via cell phone I'm not sure if an Ipod text was even possible.

That's why I would like to know if Mark even had Wi-Fi in his home were by Dylan could even possibly use an Ipod to text. MOO.

Apparently she's the only source for that information. That's why I would like some confirmation from an unbiased source so that I can make an informed opinion about Mark having a landline or not. MOO.

The reason I think she's a credible source is because they have kids together and probably talked at different times. They're speaking on the cell phones, get disconnected, and he texts her, "sorry...call me on the landline"

He may still have the same landline number they had when they were together, since now you can port your number to a different house if you like.

Also, if you lived in an area with spotty service, you'd want to have a landline. (or at least I would)

I'm not saying that Elaine is a non-credible source, I just want some confirmation from an unbiased source. JMO.

I'm curious about this.

In one interview MR stated that he went to the neighbor's house by the lake, looking for Dylan, but the neighbor said he hadn't seen him.

In the last interview MR stated that he went to the neighbor's house by the lake looking for Dylan but no one answered the door.

Can anyone give any reason that he would be confused about this? This is a huge variance, imo.

I don't understand how saying MR whether has a landline or not is a biased thing.

BBM: I also interpreted his comment as Dylan didn't go into his room to use his cell to try and get reception.

*lol* and *I* thought it meant the dvd player was in another room upstairs. Not MR's bedroom.

Who knows?

Apparently some believe that Dylan would have used Mark's landline to communicate with his friends on Monday morning if his cell phone had problems. I would like to know if this alleged landline of Mark's even exits.

Elaine say it does exits. I would like someone else to confirm that fact.

It's funny how many ways one sentence can be interpreted. I took it to me that he went upstairs but didn't go in MR's room.

Why would Elaine lie about something like this ?

And in the U,K nearly everybody has a landline so its pretty much the norm i would of thought .

That's the way I took it, too. Not that Dylan didn't or would never go up there, because he had said Dylan went up there to get the DVD player. I took it that Dylan didn't go upstairs to get cell service on his phone, he got it while sitting on the sofa.

How would she know since they've been divorced 6 years??? I don't even know if my bothers and sisters have landlines anymore. They changed phone numbers several times and given me new numbers. At one time, they all had landlines, but I know of one who doesn't any longer. I'm not sure at all about the rest of them, and I see them all the time. Just never bothered asking if they still have a landline.

I would assume she has rung it to speak to Dylan or Dylan rung her on it , no ?

it would make sense IMHO

Don't you go over their house...and see the phone on the wall or on a table?

Also, where I live, everyone else has a different area code for their landline, and for their cell phones, but maybe that's not everywhere. Also, if a cell phone is turned off, it will only ring once, whereas a landline will ring until it gets to the answering machine every time. And if they do have a landline, wouldn't they give you two numbers--one for their cell phone and one for their landline?

ETA: Basically, what I saying is, unless Elaine is straight up lying, I believe that if Mark has a landline, she knows about it. I'm sure that due to the whole child custody thing, he had to provide all his phone numbers to her. People tell others when one number is a cell, one is a landline, so you know which one to call at certain hours of the day.

IMO The cell phone only thing seems to have become more popular in recent years. I know a couple of younger teachers at school, plus young parents who have never bothered connecting a landline. Different generation and all that - they use their cell phones extensively so I gather they can't see the point in having the landline as well. To be honest if it wasn't necessary for my ADSL broadband connection (which I couldn't wait to get after years of unreliable wireless service) I would strongly consider it myself - many of us here get pretty cheesed off with our main telecom provider for different reasons.
I'm also guilty of not knowing many phone numbers by memory, as they are all stored on my cell phone - off the top of my head I probably only know my mum's and my work number. I have checked with my two teen boys and the only phone numbers they know from memory are our landline and my cell phone.

I don't even know my own cell phone number. I have to look it up when I give it to someone. All numbers are stored in my cell phone. We got a new landline phone and it was so time consuming to put all the numbers in it, I just didn't.

I don't know my kids cell number, home numbers or work numbers by memory. I use to know everyone's, now because of my cell phone, I don't have to.
