nope, didn't say that.. its just yet another in a long list of issues that continue to be red flags and many are very concerned about those numerous red flags and what it means for Dylan..his family are some of those concerned. that's my point and nothing else!

Actually I don't believe that goes both ways. I think families naturally want to protect and believe their own. I don't think they would naturally think someone they are related to (or once loved) could do something like this.

I have never followed a missing child case before so I am looking to WS for this answer.

Have there been any cases where the FAMILY thought the dad was guilty and later it was proven that he was not?

I know there are many times when public opinion puts the guilt label on the father/stepfather and it turns out they were wrong. But has the immediate family ever been wrong in that way?

It's really bothering me this week that both ER and AZG feel MR could be involved and now I am back on the :fence:

This is my first WS rodeo, too. I keep thinking about the compassion, trust, and respect that this forum/community has developed toward them. As for MR, decidedly more suspicion, distrust, and doubt.

I've been in conferences with married couples (and divorced ones, too) where one member is lovely and the other is horrid-- hostile, aggressive, accusatory. How can these two people have coexisted?

When I'm caught in the crossfire (and often on the receiving end of the hostility) I try soothe myself with these thoughts: She is a kind woman. I respect her. She chose to marry him. Even though he is being hateful right now, surely he must have good qualities that are not visible in this stressful situation.


My heart aches when I read ER's and AZG's self doubt about the possibility of choosing a (former) partner who could potentially have harmed a child.

I think maybe he has good qualities and positive attributes that they were once drawn to-- that maybe just aren't visible anymore... or in this situation...

UNFORTUNATELY people deceive, manipulate, and sell themselves as something they are not all the time.. we interact daily with people who can be both charming and manipulative, this type person IMO is not a rarity.

Even though there are lots of dissenting opinions about the who-what-why of this situation, there is so much we all have in common. Namely, a deep, sincere concern for others that we've never even met and most likely never will. Also, a willingness to spend a part of our day gathering to pool resources and discuss angles and perspectives with the hope of restoring a family. That's big. That's powerful.

The whole Hispanic male thing is just LE covering "tips" and dotting their "i's." IMHO. Cortez and Ignacio reservations are right by Durango and there's lots of Native American/Hispanic males around. My first thought upon hearing this "new lead" is Susan Smith's story of a black male......

Mark Redwine's divorce from Elaine was FIVE years ago. Who the heck talks like this as an opener about his SON being missing while being gently asked questions (kudos to Melissa and her gentle, non-interogrative questions):

What comes to mind when I read this is: "Guess you have never been divorced!" Sometimes divorces are friendly, but most times they are filled with hate and lots of anger. Even five years later and beyond. My relationship with my ex didn't really settle down for about ten to fifteen years. We never saw eye to eye when it came to the kids, and he always knew how to push my buttons. He finally settled down when he remarried and finished paying child support.

Nothing I have read about their relationship has surprised me. Many divorces are like theirs. The fact that they are still arguing and seeing attorneys doesn't surprise me. Anytime you have to deal with an ex there is potential for problems. Just saying....

Vallecito is a special place to me. I grew up there (summers). My kids grew up there. My entire family has loved and protected that area ... forever. One reason I went there to search for a wonderful young man named Dylan.
