This confuses me because different states and counties and jurisdictions have different ' titles' for LE I guess. Where I live we have a sheriff,,, he presdies over the whole county . A marshall's office I dont' really know what it is. So the way I've taken that whole talk is both the marshall and sheriff, two nearly EQUAL bodies of LE were informed, so that is better than just ONE being informed !

I only know of U.S. Marshalls, and that's kind of odd, because they are federal LE, not county or state. I'm not familiar with everything they do, other than they are involved in the witness protection program and they also escort prisoners to and from federal prisons.

It would have been a lot smarter for him to have gone straight to the Sheriff's dept. Even if they have a police dept. there, they usually call in the SD immediately because small town PD's are just not equipped to handle major cases.

ETA: I just remembered that many years ago, before our tiny little town had a real police department, we had a city marshal. This person only had jurisdiction over the town itself, not outside city limits. Everyone around here jokingly called him the dogcatcher because that's what his job mainly consisted of, picking up stray dogs that were a nuisance.

I hate to ask this question, but IF Dylan is found in the lake, what kind of condition would his body be in? Would they be able to see signs of trauma? Would the temperature of the lake preserve the body somehow? Sorry. :( Just curious.

I am thinking they could gain far more info ( found in water/ice) than if he was found outside, exposed to elements and etc.

That's what I figured. They'd also be able to tell if he drowned as opposed to already being dead before entering the water, right?

Well let's hope Dylan is found at a Walmart, and not the Lake

Yes, almost for sure they would be able to tell that much, possibly much more.

FOIA, but that would take a diligent and persistent reporter/news agency. MB doesn't have what it takes, IMO.

Agree!!!

Remember the gal that did all the investigating for the Sandusky case and won an award for her work? Maybe someone can outreach to her to see if she can take this on (although she is based in Atlanta) or maybe she can refer someone similar to take the lead??

Just a thought...

The Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper reporter who broke the news that a Pennsylvania grand jury was investigating former assistant Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky is joining CNN.

Sara Ganim, who graduated from Penn State and covered the Sandusky case through his trial and conviction – and appeared on CNN and Headline News as a contributor – broke the story for the Harrisburg, Pa. Patriot-News. The Penn State alum earned a Pulitzer for her work on the Sandusky case. Also, in 2011, Ganim was awarded the George Polk Award and the Sidney Award for her journalism efforts.

Not sure what you mean, other than the obvious hope that he is alive. But he is far too old to be dropped off and hope he won't be able to say where he was. His age is part of the reason I fear most for him, as he would not, IMO, be a willing captive and yet they would not be able to release him.

what's the difference between marshal's office and sheriff's office in that county

anyone know?

we have county sheriff, no marshals

Beats me. We don't have marshalls here either. After looking at the website, I determined that this must be a local Marshall's office for Bayfield only. Kind of like Marshall Dillon in Gunsmoke.

But maybe CO is still stuck in the Wild West.

I found a website. I'm not going into any details but if anyone wants to research it here's one link.

http://www.forensicmed.co.uk/pathology/bodies-recovered-from-water/
Scroll down to section (c) Ante mortem injury/ assault.

There's a lot that can happen to someone who has been in the water for a while that might make it difficult for an examiner to tell exactly what happened.

FWIW I recall hearing it too. I heard it recently on the Dr. Phil promo, but I also thought I read early on (possibly in an interview transcript) that their only communication since 2009 had been via text. I remember thinking it was odd and maybe it was court ordered or something. I would still think a missing child would kind of over-ride the court order (maybe not legally speaking, but I think most judges would understand!). I think it was around the same time he was saying that he wanted to see ER face to face and something about how he didn't want to have dinner with her, just wanted to come together to find Dylan. Sort of gave me the impression at the time of "I'm not using this as an excuse to see ER, we need to work together..."

Does this sound familiar to anyone? I will keep looking for it but wanted to add in the context of where I think I heard/saw it the first time in case it jogs someone else's memory.

Thanks Scorekeeper for the Dr. Phil link!

As to the other reference I found it, or part of it anyway.

Hmmmm well I found what I was looking for, but I see how it could be interpreted more than one way. Here's the link:

http://www.gazette.com/articles/dylan-148038-son-redwine.html

Mark Redwine said he would like to meet with his ex-wife but so far has not had success beyond the text messages.

“I don’t want to have dinner with her and become buddy, buddy, but as parents of a missing child, people need to know that we can put our differences aside and that we want our son back,” he said."

I read this as he hadn't had any communication with her at all other than text messages, but on re-reading it I see how it could also be taken that he hadn't had any communication other than texts since they day Dylan disappeared. So maybe he did talk to her the day Dylan went missing. He says things like "I indicated to her..." which could be via phone or text IMO.

Still looking to see if I can find anything else that's more specific.

Interesting response on the K9 Forensics page about an hour ago. I don't know how to link from my phone.

While I was looking for other info, I ran across this - how/why they ruled out a run away situation:

http://www.gazette.com/articles/vallecito-147839-redwine-father.html

Investigators had considered all options, including that Dylan was a runaway. On Wednesday, however, they ruled that out.

Factors that led to that conclusion include the absence of activity by Dylan on social media, lack of text messages to his friends and the passage of time, authorities said.

“He was very socially active. He had friends he texted all of the time. A typical runaway contacts his buddies and there’s been none of that,” Bender said.

So sounds like his lack of social media/texting when he's normally fairly active on those is how they ruled out runaway.

Yes, almost for sure they would be able to tell that much, possibly much more.

Not after the body being in the water for that long.

I thought it was on the Dr. Phil promo
but
in trying to listen
it says Dylan has been missing over 3 months
and that Mark and Elaine hasn't spoken

So I may have read it somewhere else....:blushing::blushing:

I'm a few pages behind so sorry if already answered but,
It was actually during Friday's Dr, Phil episode when they talked about "coming up Tues on Dr. Phil" However I thought it said that this was the first time they had seen each other in 3 years? IDK... still sad though.

And how do you "go" to the Marshal's office if they are closed? I don't care if they have a staff of Marshal's or not, if reception is gone and the office is CLOSED, there is no way to get into the bldg. I've seen a lot of small town LE offices that close up at a certain time and from that point on, the doors are locked. If you need someone, you call 911 and they patch you through or you go to the Sheriff dept/City police dept or wherever they man a desk 24/7.

Maybe he knows someone who works there, and met them somewhere?

I've been wondering why they had brought Sadie along after all this time (since a tracking scent isn't likely to last this long), but something hit me today that I don't remember being discussed yet. Is it to help identify any scent the cadaver dogs might find? In case I'm not being clear, if they get a hit from the lake/ice, would Sadie also get a hit from it because of whatever scent items they used if it was Dylan they detected? Sorry if I'm still jumbling things, but I'm not sure how to make it clearer. TIA

My bolding. So if I call the police right now and say I'll come in tomorrow morning at 9am to fill out a report, and when I get there I have to wait an hour to do the report, they'll put 4:41pm 2/24 or 9am 2/25 on the report instead of logging the actual time I make the report at 10am 2/25?

That doesn't make any sense to me. I think they put the time they fill out the report.

:twocents: :twocents:

I don't know about when a person goes to LE to file a MP report, but I know in other police reports the time is when they arrive at the location that they were dispatched to, not the time they got the alert from dispatch.
It would seem to me it would be the time that the person actually gets to talk to whichever officer is taking the report.
