These dogs are not a 100 % accurate.
So, yes, they could confuse some other smell with that of human decomposition.

I dont think so. Maybe if they got an alert one day and then not the next. But they alerted two days in a row.

And it seems to be nagging at LE too since they told MR they are still interested in that area.

Something probably is decomposing in that area, but not necessarily human. Doesn't matter how many times dogs alerted. And certainly there have not been anything to suggest that it's Dylan.

Cadaver scent in water bodies is something I know nothing about. Question: the dogs hit on scent out on open water. So if Dylan slipped in the water, then drowned, he would not be deceased until he was submerged. Would the cadaver scent then float up to the surface? Or would cadaver scent have to be present BEFORE it sinks into the water at the "hit" location?

I can answer this. As a body decomposes (even if they die by drowning in the water) .. gasses are released from the body and microscopic bubbles rise to the surface. This is the scent that the dogs hit on.

It's not an exact 'science' but pretty darn close and lots of bodies have been recovered this way ...

imo

If he went fishing at the reservoir and fell in, where is the fishing pole? They float. Seems unlikely nothing rose to the surface. And why would he take all his stuff with him? Who lugs a full backpack around? And what did he use for bait? A lure? Dad needs to check if the lure box is missing.

Thank you so much! It has been said that this lake is so cold a body might never decay and form gases that would float the body to the surface. In your knowledge, would it be likely that a body that drowned in this lake would gas enough in a few days for cadaver dogs to pick up the scent? I would guess it would take far less scent for a dog to detect than for a body to float, but what do I know?

Embarrassed to admit that I have lost a few in my time. None floated. Sank like an anchor in a 200 foot deep lake.

Me too nursey.

I think poor Dylan had a terrible accident in and around the lake/dam area and has drowned.

He probably thought he had enough time to go fish awhile before his daddy got back home.:(

God how I hope they find him and bring him home.:(

I dont understand why they ever stopped searching knowing they got his scent there for two days in a row.

IMO

What do you think about LE declaring this a "criminal investigation"?
Do you think that's just a broad umbrella term used to allow LE agencies to investigate all avenues? Meaning they aren't only focused on a criminal investigation but could still be considering a theory like the one you suggested.

Seven divers from New Mexico State Police searched Vallecito Lake through the weekend after the dogs followed the scent to the lake, according to KMGH.

I had remembered reading this but could never find it again. I ran across it again today while reading the Timeline post #5 reported by ABC News. this is why I have always thought the dogs followed scent from house or close by. jmo

Uncut: Mark Redwine talks about son's dissapearance - YouTube

Is MR giving his true thoughts away with his shaking his head no to so many questions? He quits shaking his head no when he wants the investigation to remain focused on the sightings of Dylan and that Dylan's friends are important to Dylan and MR knows that.

MR mentions Dylan's friends and how important they are/were to Dylan at least four time in this interview. IMO this is a sore point with this man.
MR wants the focus be on the hours between when he left for his errands and when he got back at 5:35 in the interview 'that's part of the struggle WE all have, you know, what happened to him between the time I left and the time I got back'. He quits the 'no' shaking during this part.

BBM: Wow, CUCKOOHEAD, so glad you made this point. I thought EXACTLY the same thing when I watched this. He speaks to this point as though he is trying to refute an (unspoken) allegation.

I don't know what the reason for him to be in the lake is, I do however know that they need to recheck. We have a thread here that even speeks of missing people being searched for in water, to show up later in the same body of water....Also one story is here

Also as far as the fishing poles, if it was a rod and reel no they will sink once the reel is full of water.

I tend to think the phone is in that lake.

Did MR report the fishing pole missing before or after the dogs followed his scent to the lake?

Before because he couldnt understand why they didnt search the lake immediately when he told them about the fishing pole.

I do not believe the mpr has been released (and any media reports...well they have to be taken with a huge grain of salt :twocents:)

I really think Dylan has been where ever he is since Sunday evening and I suspect it is somewhere not far from the airport. I don't think he made it to Dad's house. If he is in the lake, I still feel the same way, he's been in the lake since Sunday night.

I hope I'm wrong... I really really really hope I'm wrong.
