Seven divers from New Mexico State Police searched Vallecito Lake through the weekend after the dogs followed the scent to the lake, according to KMGH.

I had remembered reading this but could never find it again. I ran across it again today while reading the Timeline post #5 reported by ABC News. this is why I have always thought the dogs followed scent from house or close by. jmo

Well THAT would qualify this as a criminal investigation, I guess!

Did MR report the fishing pole missing before or after the dogs followed his scent to the lake?

I'm pretty sure MR said he told LE from day one the pole was missing. But, I also think LE asked him to look around and tell them what of DR's was missing. So he of course told them the backpack, phone, etc and probably saw the pole was missing too. I don't know but we do know the pole was not found at the lake. jmo

Thank you so much! It has been said that this lake is so cold a body might never decay and form gases that would float the body to the surface. In your knowledge, would it be likely that a body that drowned in this lake would gas enough in a few days for cadaver dogs to pick up the scent? I would guess it would take far less scent for a dog to detect than for a body to float, but what do I know?

That is exactly right. Your body starts decomposing immediately and dogs can pick up on very little scent. There could be some decomposition that would/could be detected from the surface.. but not enough to raise the body. Especially in a deep and cold lake..

imo

Down with a migraine but wanted to mark my spot. I really hope something breaks in this case soon. Come home Dylan!

If he went fishing at the reservoir and fell in, where is the fishing pole? They float. Seems unlikely nothing rose to the surface. And why would he take all his stuff with him? Who lugs a full backpack around? And what did he use for bait? A lure? Dad needs to check if the lure box is missing.

He would have his full backpack with him if he was planning on staying with a friend over night once he got there. But he never did....

I replied to your post on the last thread and lost it when the thread closed.

Why do you think the father is wanting custody of Dylan now? Financial? Control issues since the "family" moved? IMO, I really sense a sincere anger from Dylan for his father.
<SNIP>
I haven't seen any indication that MR is trying to get custody, and the only anger I've seen toward MR has been from ER (and Dylan according to her.)

I know this has been a questionable subject (Dylan hitchhiking) but it is my personal opinion that he did not hitchhike. jmo From every picture that has been shown of Dylan he does not strike me as the kind of kid to do that. I think Mom knows her son better then anyone. I think she's right. I am not ready to say that he may have left walking (doubt) and was picked up. jmo
What does a kid who would hitchhike look like? If ER didn't believe DR would ever do that, then why did she feel it was necessary to have a talk about it with him?

It is not a fact. What is a fact is that Bender of th sheriff's dept said we only know that he arrived in la plata county and nothing after that. So if they had walmart video of dylan AFTER arriving in la plata co., either Bender is lying or misunderstood or was ' quoted' wrong by a reporter, which does seem to happen with frequency in this case. If they had walmart video, why wouldnt' Bender say, ' we know dylan arrived and we know he was in walmart an hour later and after that we know nothing'?
IIRC, what he said was "and after that, not too much." Not nothing.

MR talks about DR in the past tense in this interview. Something not right about that.
As did ER, CR and ER's mother.

WOW! Thanks so much and when they got there they got an alert two days in a row???????

imo

The way I understand the article, these were S&R dogs. Then they got the HRD dogs for the water search. That is my interpretation. And yes, they had a hit on two separate days. The first day, a hit was by two dogs and then the second day was by a different dog they brought in to confirm the hits from the day before. jmo

Any of you really good sleuthers want to come and help me search my car for the lens that popped out of my glasses (again!) last night? I found an old pair to use, but I'd still be considered legally blind while wearing them. :furious:

thank you for posting that interview. It solidifies my feeling that Dylan's father had nothing to do with this.

The one thing in that interview that really stood out to me is how he keeps talking about Dylan spending time with his friends. He mentions it over and over, as if he's truly...I'm not sure if remorseful is the right word, but to me he seems to genuinely be saying that he'd want nothing more than to go back in time and do what he could to facilitate Dylan spending time with his friends, because that's what was so important to Dylan when he visited (obviously because Dylan's a pretty typical 13 year old).

Now, that could be taken as nefarious - an argument got out of hand about Dylan prioritizing his friends. But, on the other hand, it could be a sign of Mark sincerely believing that Dylan probably hitchhiked, and really, really feeling bad about not making Dylan get up and driving him to Bayfield that Monday morning.

Me too nursey.

I think poor Dylan had a terrible accident in and around the lake/dam area and has drowned.

He probably thought he had enough time to go fish awhile before his daddy got back home.:(

God how I hope they find him and bring him home.:(

I dont understand why they ever stopped searching knowing they got his scent there for two days in a row.

IMO

The problem with that is why would he go fishing lugging practically everything he brought to dads with him and communicate with no one? Not even the friends that were expecting him.

What do you think about LE declaring this a "criminal investigation"?
Do you think that's just a broad umbrella term used to allow LE agencies to investigate all avenues? Meaning they aren't only focused on a criminal investigation but could still be considering a theory like the one you suggested.

They have their theories but that doesnt necessarily mean those theories are correct.

Ok some of this has got to be misinformation about the scent from the home to lake. They had to be trailing an alive scent.

It couldnt have been a cadaver scent that was leading from his home to the lake. If so they would have arrested MR in a nano second two weeks ago and would have gotten a SW fast enough to make his head spin. And they wouldnt have gone door to door searching either or checking out RSOs in the area.

"Just given the length of time (he's been gone), we're looking at other possibilities," said Durango Police Lt. Ray Shupe. "Everything from abduction to homicide."

The Dylan Redwine Task Force is continuing their door-to-door canvasing of the Vallecito Lake area near Durango.

The Task Force is comprised of members from the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, the Durango Police Department, the FBI and CBI.

Three La Plata County Search and Rescue air-scent canines have returned to the Vallecito area to do ground searches.

I miss the updates like the ones we got from the Westminster PD when Jessica was missing... I know each case is different but even when Westminster didn't have much to say, at least it was something.

I know there have been blurb's released by La Plata here and there, but somehow it just doesn't have the same effect. IMO

Something probably is decomposing in that area, but not necessarily human. Doesn't matter how many times dogs alerted. And certainly there have not been anything to suggest that it's Dylan.

Except for the very statistically unlikely coincidence of a missing child in that neighborhood with dogs tracking from the house to that very lake, a father who pointed to a missing fishing pole the first day with an insistence that same lake be searched and who continued to point back to the lake after they quit searching.

Other than that, no, nothing to suggest.....

We really dont know how big the backpack was. Not all kids bring huge suitcases when they come to visit their parent. He did leave some of his clothing behind. Maybe he needed the room to stuff a small tackle box inside although he could have had an artificial lure on the pole to begin with.

If he slipped and fell in and had his phone with him he would have no time to call anyone. I just think he thought he would be back in plenty of time before his dad got back from running errands.

IMO

I don't see why people keep throwing around the scenario of Dylan taking off to see friends. Isn't this the same as running away? His dad knew nothing of him leaving, so this would be RUNNING AWAY. Correct me if I am wrong. That is the way I see it. LE has been adamant that Dylan did NOT RUN AWAY, which throws out every scenario of Dylan leaving on his own.

Embarrassed to admit that I have lost a few in my time. None floated. Sank like an anchor in a 200 foot deep lake.

True. Especially if his was fully rigged when he left the house. Weight, lure etc. I always have mine fully rigged before I leave the house. Lord knows I spend enough time re-rigging while fishing.

Put a nylon over the vacuum wand and vacuum away...you will catch it on the nylon......

HA ! That's a bit o/t but if you can't see while you're trying to type here then you're at a serious disadvantage.

BBM: Wow, CUCKOOHEAD, so glad you made this point. I thought EXACTLY the same thing when I watched this. He speaks to this point as though he is trying to refute an allegation.

It made me wonder how far down the totem pole MR felt he rated on his son's love and how he may have reacted if Dylan got upset about him insisting he couldn't go to his friend's house the evening he arrived. He appears to be the adult when he admits that Dylan had carved out two days of his visit to be with friends. I think the true reaction may be very different than the what is portrayed in the interview.
