Do we know what led authorities to the landfill? Was it a tip or just a guess?

How investigators will search a landfill for Kelsey Berreth's remains - CNN
It may sound like an impossible task: searching a quarter-acre of a landfill for charred, decomposed human remains three months after a person was last seen alive.

But searchers are hopeful that they will find the remains of Kelsey Berreth and any other evidence that could shed light on her death.

[...]
Frazee's alleged mistress, who is cooperating with law enforcement, shared information that helped lead investigators to the Midway Landfill in Fountain, Colorado. Searchers will begin sifting through landfill detritus there on Tuesday and continue for at least 35 days until they make it through the area.

This is what we know from Woodland Park police about the search, plus additional insight from forensic anthropologists on what to possibly expect.

[...]

Ten searchers are expected to work eight hours a day for 35 days to make it through the primary target area, which is roughly the size of two tennis courts, and nine feet deep. The entire search area is 250' by 125' and 25 feet deep -- that's roughly two hockey rinks with 25 feet of garbage piled on top.

The estimated time frame could change based on their progress, Woodland Park Police Commander Chris Adams said.

[...]

"It's a slow, methodical search. We don't want to miss anything. I think we owe it to Kelsey and her family to -- to be as thorough as we can," Adams said.

The process resembles the procedure that forensic anthropologists use to search areas.

Sorry if asked and answered but I’ve been out of the loop for a couple of weeks. Has Kelsey’s mom added KK to wrongful death action? Would KK be liable for anything civilly?

And just WOW!! I can’t believe how involved KK was in cleanup, staging and disposal of bloody items!! I think she is just as despicable as PF!! I’m sure the murder was all his idea but she went along every step of the way without alerting LE. Disgusting!! She got off waaaay to easy!!

Certainly a possibility.
I must admit, this case has me so conflicted at times, trying to understand that which I can not imagine.

I know PF wanted KB dead, and he did it. I know KK wanted her dead, but didn't do it but was so very willing to clean up the mess. What made that risk worth it to her?

She claims she "left" clues so LE would find PF, YET she throws away a tooth, destroys KB's phone and her own plus burners. What is SHE hiding that LE and the DA will never be able to prove because she tampered with the evidence. The case against PF would be even stronger if she'd left these items undamaged and was able to turn them in. So I'm clueless as to why she went to such lengths to destroy these items. Once she left CO she had the power to turn them in, tell LE what happened and she would never have to fear him again. But that's not what she did. I feel very strongly once this goes to trial she will look even worse to us than she does now. PF's attorney will leave no stone unturned to accomplish that.

She had a number of days to consider how to mitigate the evidence against her, to a certain degree. Thankfully, LE had enough on her to make her buckle and spill the beans on PF. Although, I still don't trust everything she's said. There's more to this that has been conveniently left out of HER narrative. No doubt, PF's attorney will "fill in the blanks" for us when the time comes. All MOO and more MOO.

Thank you for sharing that, especially because you’re very familiar with this area. I imagine there may be some folks there who circled the wagons around PF, just like the ones in Idaho did for KK.

Don't know his circle of friends, and don't hang out with ropers or ranchers here, but I do believe the wagons have been circled indeed.

Oh, thanks. I missed that KK mentioned the landfill.

OK, in the Arrest Affidavit paragraph 71, it calls the thing a
"Black Plastic Tote with Silver Handles."
Here's a cheap one from Walmart- $20.98 ea.
comments say it's not waterproof but indicates it may leak from around the lid and body of tote.
I know KB was tiny but would she fit in this? Also little wheels.

Makes me sick to think of this, but, how did he get her into that without, um, doing something to cause her body to fit inside and close the lid?

I was confused on this statement, was not sure if he cheated on KB while she was in the hospital or the ex girlfriend .

I read the original news report, which I think was done by one the the Colorado Springs news entities. The Gazette Telegraph newspaper sticks in my mind. What's missing here is that the ex-girlfriend was his high school flame. She was in the hospital. So it was a cheating worthy of Kanickie in "Grease" type scandal. The article implied, but did not actually say, that the current husband had hooked up with her on the rebound, and they had been a couple ever since. I tossed it as memories of bad times at Woodland High, until Slater's testimony revealed enough info to realize the girl he cheated with was probably KK. If I have that scandalous romance right, they worked together in the summer folowing high school graduation. Maybe they worked at one of the many summer camps in the Colorado mountains? IMO

The Edwards case is "absolutely nothing like this one"???? I sure disagree. There was a lot of blood and there wasn't a body. I don't know how much more similar it could be. There was no evidence Edwards dismembered his victim in his bedroom nor was that theory presented at trial. LE found blood, a lot of blood, yet only got a conviction on second degree murder. Not first degree and certainly not the death penalty.

I don't believe the DA in this case shares your confidence of a conviction and that's okay with me. He needs to prove a case with evidence and facts, not emotion.

JMO
I fail to see how it furthers the argument that the DA’s case is weak to assert that those in agreement with the DA’s case to date are part of a lynch mob mentality and allowing emotion to rule the analsysis. Moreover, the assertion that the DA took a lot of time to bring charges undermines the idea of a lynch mob mentality ruled by emotion. The facts are the facts here. KK was nowhere near the site of the murder where phone pings give strong evidence (along with security footage) as to the time of the murder. DAs in high profile cases are loathe to bring charges they cannot substantiate - the stakes are too high. The evidence already in the public realm is overwhelming, just as it was in the Watts case. A contrary viewpoint on the merits is debatable but calling the other side emotional and lynch mobesque only undermines the argument attempting to be made, IMO. We all want a fair trial and justice to prevail as no one has said otherwise here.

BBM - so is this new information? otherwise, why the delay in searching? I cannot believe it is new though - it seems she would have had to tell everything she knew back on December 20 to get that deal? thoughts?

In the Monday morning presser, Commander Adams explained that a lot of planning and organization went into this search first. This is NOT a random dig. They seem to know exactly what they are looking for and have had the best experts in the field construct the plan. IMO

She is a fairly small woman - in stature and weight. I personally don’t think it would have been difficult assuming it was done while the body was not in rigor. She was short, fit, and likely flexible. :(

She was very petite, so her body would fit. JMO

KK told police that PF scooped up KB’s charred remains and possibly tossed them in a nearby river or landfill.

Buried somewhere in the mountain of information surrounding this case is a reference to PF and KK meeting at a 'dude ranch' in 2006, IIRC - probably, as you suggest, a summer camp.

A freshly deceased body is amazing pliable, as there is no more muscle tension. It would require a person with no soul to do it. IMO

Have you ever watched those clowns and magicians that have
normal people crawl out of a trunk/tote? They squench up
their body, sorta folded up, and fit into these things. I'm
thinking she would have fit by folding.

The data is no longer available.

Cell phone data is key to cracking Berreth case, expert says
Pfoff said investigators could have asked for what he calls a ‘tower dump’, gaining access to all of the numbers for phones that pinged off the tower that day.

However, he said towers only hold that data for three to five days.

Thank you so much, I had totally missed that. I followed the Sievers case and others, and I thought they had done Tower dumps much much later than 3 to 5 days.
