They even have a page online about how to collect the DNA and what to do if an arrestee's mouth is dry. Seems like a big error to not collect it? Maybe the sample was degraded or they need more for more tests. On the flip side, I don't know how the defense is going to oppose collecting it since it's required by law.

"Sometimes only a slight color change will occur if the arrestee has a dry mouth but the DNA is still present. If possible, the arrestee can rinse their mouth out with water prior to collection."

The defense response said they wanted a reason why the DA need it. iow, did you screw up and not collect it when you were supposed to do it? Possibly laying the groundwork for sloppy LE work. JMO

Actually, one thing you can depend on in Northern Colorado is the wind. This very well may be a random bag blown on to the scene, and nothing to do with any of the Watts! (Did anybody see video with the rubbish cans blown about their residential street).
Do we know where the bag was located? Could it have been discarded inside the oil tanks or in the shallow grave?

Yes, could be, but if it were there for any amount of time, it would be sun bleached in areas in summer.
I think that you could tell if it had been there for two days or two weeks.
Of course it still could have blown there from somewhere else in the last two days, but who leaves and empty garbage bag outside?

1.One of the things that icks me out in a hotel is the pillow. People drooling and snarfing so when I can, I bring my own. Not that it would mean much, but I wonder if she brought her pillow with.

2. If it was premeditated, wouldn’t it be easier to do it downstairs than think about having to lug her down the stairs?

3. I wonder if the footprint is because he stood on the bag to put a child into it. Normally to fill a bag with a large object, how would it be done?
bbm
I use travel pillow case made out of plastic that zips close. I also bring my own pillow case to cover the plastic case. No more icky smell.:D

According to everything on that website, this guy was legally compelled to submit to a DNA sample upon his arrest for a felony.

The only time it’s not required, is when the arestee is already in CODIS.

So two things really don’t make sense. Why the DNA request was made in the first place (they should already have it)?

And why no one else has brought this fact up?

Edit* And if it was degraded, why that fact wasn’t brought up in the prosecution motion?

Well if you hop on the next Qantas, we can drive on to CERVI 319 and it will all fall into place for you just how much debris can appear overnight in this remote land!

Could it be that the first stuff was like a form request and they had to add additional requests?

Speculation Alert!

Around Noon
NUA: I can't reach Shanann. Do you know where she is?
CW: She is at a playdate with some vague friends.
NUA: Can't be. She missed her dr's appointment this morning. Her car is here in the garage.
CW: Oh, I asked her for a separation. Please just go home.
NUA: You need to come home. I'm calling the police right now.

Noon-1 pm
Hmm... Perhaps Shanann was buried in the morning, then he ran out of time before he had to go to work. He had planned to bury the babies during lunch time. Then at noon NUA called so he had to quickly drop the girls in the tanks before going home. No time to dig.

1pm
CW rushes home blowing every stop signs.

1:40 pm
Police arrives. Since this is a wellfare check, and not a 911 call, it takes a while for them to repond.
Hi everyone. I'm new and just here appreciating everyone's intelligent exchange on this case.

I saw that video. SW very concerned about cans in the street and safety. Incredible winds. Many don't realize eastern Colorado is the Great Plains. JMO

I tend to think it's related because of the fence around the tanks. Unless it was super windy, I don't think it would have blown over the fence.

I live in land that has many remote areas, more remote than any in the US, except maybe Alaska and I know how far debris can travel. It is just that it would be a bit degraded, I think.

Could something have come up in the autopsies that needs further testing of CW dna?

Hmm.. I recall CW was arrested around midnight if not shortly thereafter, and hope there wasn't a breakdown in protocol in Weld County !

Maybe she left her stuff downstairs and rushed up to confront him.

I don't think she would necessarily need her suitcase upstairs to take a shower.

I think she was on her way to check on her kids.

Great point PommyMommy but wouldn't LE have seen it when they did their investigation on site? Wouldn't they have done a grid search of the areas that they were found at?
I am not sure where the bag was retrieved from but could it have been in the tanks or grave?

Totally agree but still dumbfounded that people think they can get away with this stuff.

Agree. The thing that blows my mind is that people even mimicked or copycat elements from other murderers that has been caught!
I can't understand that!!! Unless is because they think is a good idea/murdering technique/alibi but the one who did it before was dumb?
and they think they're way beyond smarter and won't get caught? Really???

Well we know that the crime lab is reviewing quite a bit of physical evidence, so they need his DNA for that, at the very least.

What clothing Shanann had on when her body was found will determine if she was killed right away (still in her flight clothes) or killed later (possibly in her nightgown/pjs).
Excellent thought, FlossyMay! It may well tell us a couple of things -- whether he got to her right away, or whether she was possibly in the bed, thereby making strangulation easier (if he indeed strangled her -- or used other means); it might help better postulate whether his story about who strangled whom holds any merit at all -- not sure if that is possible, but detectives can be pretty smart.
