Most people who lie about something lie strategically. LE was on to the location of the bodies. If CW didn't confess something, he would be charged with it all. Since he knew they would be able to prove he dumped all the bodies, he had no choice but to admit to killing one of them if he wanted to try to mitigate the charges. If an intruder or someone else murdered all three, why would he dump the bodies? So he comes up with a rage/defense of another type scenario for the best lemonade, however tart and unseemly it is, he could make from those lemons. The jig was up. His confession is self serving, like his lies beforehand. Do I think he would lie about what he had for lunch? no. I don't believe he is a compulsive liar. Do I think he would lie to cover up for what he thinks he has done wrong? Yes. He has proved it - lying about the affair to police, lying to the world about his missing family, and now lying that SW killed the kids. All IMO, of course. His confession is further shown for the sham I believe it to be when we know he did not call 911 to save those children in his scenario. A man whose wife just murdered his kids IMO is broken, devastated, perhaps even angry, but not dumping bodies and setting up a plan to save his behind while he shows no remorse nor devastation IMO. I believe there is a reason there is no case that sounds like his scenario in history that we have found...it does not make any sense. However, there are cases of people lying and then lying again to reduce their culpability. There are even cases of male family annihilators who seemed like great husbands and fathers who murder them all, cover it up, and when caught, try to place some of the blame on the wife....only to admit years later they were the one.
