The girls’ beds were unmade, so I believe he put them to bed.

It’s such a stupid story. None of it has a ring of truth. I boggles my mind that he thought it would work for him.

Exactly. Here is another reason his stupid story about the wife killing the kids could never be true.

He's trying to tell us that he walked in at the exact perfect nanosecond where the 1st child was already killed by her and she was finishing up killing the 2nd child and that child was on her last breath.

"After returning to the couple’s bedroom, he told police that he looked at a baby monitor he saw Bella “‘sprawled’ out on her bed and blue and Shanann actively strangling Celeste,” a detective wrote in the affidavit."

So any body in that situation would stop the person and call 911 because most everyone knows that people can sometimes be revived after drowning or suffocation for sometimes surprisingly long time after not breathing.

So he had a valid defense claim even if he killed her to stop her. There is no reason to not call 911 to try to resuccitate the kids.

This guy was a fool to think this story would fly.

Affidavit: Chris Watts claimed wife killed daughters, then he killed her

Indeed. And seeing where THOSE tanks are located, how remote? I think he planned on another fire/explosion hence the gas can. His timeline got all screwed up though when SW's flight was delayed and NU/NA turning up on the doorstep.

Me too - intrigued why LE said he loaded a gas can into the truck that morning
I'm UK - does gas mean vehicle fuel or propane gas in this specific example?

If former - why use fire which is visible from a distance - or is the site so remote from other habitation that no-one would see it?
If he's off to burn evidence - why didn't he take all the other evidence he left at the home? ( SW Suitcase, purse, shoes etc etc)
Why build a fire to just destroy a sheet and possibly some clothes?

Think explosion might bring too much attention?

I have to share this as I was creeped out a bit. I do not believe in ghosts. I know that what I am seeing is my mind making out a face. I actually pulled this photo into photoshop to lighten the foreground a bit and share with you guys.
I went by the house last Saturday night with my sister and sat where the house that supposedly has the camera was on that street. I took this picture with my cell.
When I blew it up I looked at the bottom right panel of the door window. (Not the left where the light on the stone wall is reflected). It looks like an image of a not happy little girl. Again, I know it is not a real face. I also know our minds make human faces out of things since that is the way it is geared.
I did not see it or notice it when I sat there. But I can not figure out when blowing it up and back down where that reflection is coming from. Mods please remove if this is against TOS.

It's a reflection of the exterior light installed on the stone wall alongside garage

I'm an American living in the UK. I forget that "gas" would not mean the same thing. From what we know, the gas can was just plain old petrol.

To the right of that. Bottom right. I am looking at it now and wondering if it might be brightness in light causing the window to reflect darker in the window pane but let some light in on the stonework to the right of that.

Removed pictures/post upon further reflection. Probably not best for this forum. Thank you!

Agree. You can see above that how the shingles also reflect from the wall. So I think a rock is reflecting too in the bottom window.

I don't think it occurred to CW, given that SW only showed their marriage in the best light on social media, that she would tell others about the separation and suspected affair.

I believe this will be huge to the case. Her mother knew and likely discussed it at work. SW had told at least one friend about a possible affair, although she didn't have proof at that point. It was a weak suspicion at the time due to him lacking game. NA knew there were issues and detachment on his side.

Multiple people are aware of their marital issues. So for him to think anyone would believe that she rage killed her children is folly at this point. I don't think he was intelligent enough to realize that women talk. SW already knew a separation was imminent. What could he have said to her that would lead to her snapping? Nothing, imo. There goes his defense.

Perhaps sleeping as well. Or, if he had murdered them first, perhaps positioned as if sleeping. We can’t assume she went in at 2 AM & kissed them or whatever. Perhaps they were light sleepers, and she just peeked in their rooms, or checked the monitor. There’s a reason he keeps mentioning that monitor; not sure what it is.

Agree to all that and here's an image from the monitor which they were using when Bella was a baby - so of course they may well have upgraded since 2015.
If they haven't - no chance you can see a blue face on this kind of image??

Does Bella even still have a monitor at age 4 coming up to 5 years old?

Shanann was 34 years old. I don't recall her birthday, but if she was turning 35 before the due date of the baby, she would be considered high risk due to "advanced maternal age". I know this because I turn 35 literally 2 weeks before my due date. My NIPT was covered by insurance. I have heard of insurances covering the testing in women younger than me (but still in their 30's).

Also, factor in her diagnosis of Lupus, and she definitely fit the high-risk criteria for prenatal genetic screening.

Brand new here and catching up (on pg 31), but this.

@akazia1978

I'm 29. I've had NIPT with both my pregnancies (26 and 28). I saw a MFM (maternal-fetal medicine doc.. basically a high risk pregnancy doctor) solely due to high BP and a uterine anomaly. No other risk factors or history. My insurance covered it. If she had lupus, she most definitely was under the care of an MFM. If an MFM orders a NIPT, insurance is most likely going to cover it. Why? They assume a specialist ordering a test has a reason, and they've already authorized the care of said specialist. Mine does it standard across all patients due to accuracy and all the abnormalities the test covers.

Also, yes, the companies charge insurance that astronomical amount, but that is not what you're going to pay if you have to pay OOP. Almost all of the companies have a cap for OOP patients, and it is typically $200 or less. This is well known and readily available info for anyone who researches the test, so I'm sure she knew that if insurance rejected it they would only have to pay a max of $200. I almost guarantee that her insurance covered it, but if not we are talking $200 or less.. which is a big difference vs. $1.5k+. For most, $200 is going to be completely worth it for the accuracy and information you get about potential chromosomal abnormalities (finding out the sex is a bonus, it's not the point) from a couple vials of blood.

In reference to it being planned in advance, I don't know but wouldn't it take a long time to dig a shallow grave?

I can see that playing out like this...she arrives home, he's awake. She wants to check on the girls and he says something like, "Don't, you'll wake them. Check them out on the monitor." Maybe she goes to their room and looks. This may be when the conversation begins. I agree that he mentions the monitor more than once so there it plays some role here.

Hey everyone. I've been around Websleuths since Laci Peterson's murder, but mostly lurk these days.

I don't know how long it takes to strangle a toddler, but it can take a few minutes to strangle an adult to death, right? So, I'm sorry but if you walk in and find your wife strangling your children, WHY would you spend a few MINUTES strangling your wife rather than using that precious time performing CPR and calling 911? That's why his story is so stupid. He wants a jury to believe that he ran in and killed his wife in a rage seeing her on top of one of the girls and the other already sprawled out and blue, so you kill your wife rather than saving your babies? No.

I keep thinking scenarios over...I dont think CW deactivated his facebook because he was pre planning murder I think he deactivated social media because his cheating had come to light or was about to be rumbled. I dont think CW pre planned to kill his entire family because if he pre PLANNED to do it he would have taken more time to do it. For example he could have framed SW by making it look like she committed suicide after killing her children instead of his story that he killed her in revenge rage. He could have set a story up about 'mother kills children and then kills herself all whilst he is in work'. And he could have said she did it because he was leaving her. BUT the actual crime is so panicked and rushed that I think in my opinion that it was unexpected. I think they argued massively when she got home about him cheating and that she said she would leave him with nothing etc name calling etc which is what I would have done. And he killed her in a rage. The girls could have seen and heard it all so he knew he would be caught out so murdered them too. Or maybe he thought after he had killed SW he didnt want to be a single father and wanted to live as a single man with his mistress. I think everything was done on a whim and in a panic mode. Then he knew he had to go to work to look normal so had to take their bodies with him. He had to just make decisions there and then and what was accessible because who in the right mind buries their famillies bodies where they work unless they have no other options.

Awful to write this because its so heart breaking and I pray for SW and her beautiful girls. CW is a monster and I hope he admits guilt and it doesn't go to trial so her family dont go through more hell.

but still your question is very valid - why did he need it?
If it's petrol - he wasn't taking a long trip at that stage.

Why not take everything all at once and burn the lot if burning was safe at a remote site? Was he stashing it at the site for later? But you wouldn't burn in the dark - surely?

But if I believe the story that means a juror could as well.

It is really sad that justice could be denied to a pregnant mother and her three sweet angels because of one obtuse person.

One juror who believed him would only result in a hung jury. Absolutely no doubt he'd be retried. imho

ETA: Not that I believe there is any chance of that happening. I've served a few times and people can usually be persuaded to see logic. moo
