He could have asked for a divorce, or even just a separation, at any time that she was in NC. She didn't want to return to CO, I think having that "out" would have been good for her. Not only did he refuse to communicate, however, but he literally led her on by making her believe that things were going to get better. That they were going to go away, just the two of them, that following weekend. One of the hardest things for me to read was her pitiful happiness at his "allowing" her to hold him before she left for AZ and her hopefulness that things were getting better. He didn't just kill her physically, he totally messed with her head and put her emotions through the wringer. Maybe he wasn't abusive throughout their marriage, but there at the end he made her life a living hell when there was zero reason to whatsoever.He could have walked away at any time. Instead, her last few weeks of life were spent worried, scared, and frustrated as she blamed herself for things that were absolutely not her fault.
For those things alone I want to see him punished, and that's before you even get to the murders.
