AUDIO: Chris Watts’ Mistress Says She Might Have 'Accelerated the Process' of His Crimes

In audio of the Aug. 16 interview released Thursday and obtained by The Denver Post, Nichol Kessinger tells police she believes the Watts’ finances were the biggest factor in his crimes, but said her relationship with Watts might have “accelerated the process.”

She says a lot of people might blame her, believing she was the catalyst for the slayings, but she adds, “I legitimately think his cheese was sliding off his cracker long before he met me,” says Kessinger.

Just wanted to make sure you saw this article (Don't know if you're one of those people who read backwards in the threads :p):
New videos, documents released by prosecutors in Watts case

The newly released video also contains body camera footage of police searching the Watts home. The only one they find inside is the family dog.

Scroll down for the following:
  • Investigators search through Watts home
  • More video released in search of Watts home
  • Investigators test baby monitor in Watts investigation
What do you mean by “those people!”

Haa! Thanks, I do read backwards and hadn’t seen this.

Does anyone here know if the items submitted for trace evidence will still be processed? The sheet, the fingernails, did they check the mattress for urine I wonder (bladder release).

Yep, she sure did. See my post here on the August posts made by Shanann that NK could have seen on Sept 1st, 2017: GUILTY - CO - Shanann Watts (34), Celeste"Cece" (3) and Bella (4), Frederick, 13 Aug 2018 *CW LWOP* #60

I do not have social media and I found these posts, so NK could have as well. Who knows what she would have seen on CW's social media as well-- since he deleted it we have no idea.
(Although I also believe she did have social media in 2017 since she said "I have not have any social media since 2018" ).
Yes. And most recently, on August 1, 2018 on Instagram, SW also posted underneath the image: I'm so excited about August! Girls and I Fly home August 7! I fly to Scottsdale Aug 10-12 for an amazing weekend with my Le-Vel family! Gender Reveal for Baby Watts #3! (etc....)

Thrive Healthy Fit Mom on Instagram: “I’m so excited about August! Girls and I Fly home August 7th! I fly to Scottsdale Aug 10-12 for an amazing weekend with my Le-Vel family!…”

How does any good mistress miss that post on a public profile?

After listening to the NK Show I have a better understanding of her comment (Denver Post?) that CW was a good listener. That would be an essential quality for any man to survive the first date. IMO.
Seriously!

That’s a good question. I doubt it at this point, as it would only be throwing money away.

This case is over, and the perpetrator sentenced. There isn’t a need to build a case against him anymore.

Curiosity on our part aside.

Finally catching up!

My thoughts on NK: she told LE she hadn’t told anyone about the affair. Her text convo with her friend, Charlotte, was on the 12th. The day before the murders. Interesting lie/coincidence...

I don’t think she knew he would kill his family. I really don’t. I do wonder if she was being truthful in her assertion that she told him she didn’t want to meet the kids anytime soon, she didn’t want to talk to him when he had the kids, etc. If so, I feel like that contributed to his need to be untethered. To be clear, that isn’t her fault, just might be a window into where his mind was.
Good thought about if she did communicate he needs to focus on the kids that may have contributed to his wanting to be child free. I don’t think she had any knowledge nor anything she says or did holds her responsible in any way for his decision to kill his family.

But she actually gave over that evidence with a day or so.

I am actually thinking it is the TV interview pre-trial

I can imagine the DA not being pleased with that

who knows. Some beef. they burned her.

but doesn't seem smart long term.
I am just not understanding the suggestion that LE or the DA have some sort of "beef" with NK or that they are trying to punish her. As PommyMommy said, this is evidence collected in a triple murder investigation, and it is my understanding that the amount of information released to the public varies from state to state. They redacted a few things, probably all they could without complaints from media etc about withholding key information. I guess if some people are uncomfortable with discovery in a criminal case being made public, they could lobby to have the laws changed.
As far as the content of NKs searches, texts, etc. being relevant, here are my thoughts: The partial motive that DA Rourke spoke of was (paraphrasing/how I understood it) CWs desire to start over with a new love, unencumbered by whatever obligations he may have been tied to if his family was still alive. In my opinion, when CW chose to blame his innocent wife, causing untold pain for her remaining friends and family, while begging LE not to expose NK, it was cemented that he had completely replaced the loyalty and love he once held for SW.
The investigation and gathering of evidence was, until the plea agreement was reached, in preparation for a trial. The prosecution would have to present the evidence of why and how this sudden replacement happened. The reasons he was so obsessed with NK, enough to slaughter his wife and children, could not be based on innuendo or suggestion, it had to be presented as evidence. CW wrote that NK was "electric". What does that mean? Perhaps it was her willingness to experiment, her inhibition, her desire to please him, her praising of his bedroom skills. That is why those pieces of information were included. They were building a case. And given the fact that there were plenty of awful people desperately trying to patch together some sort of a motive that SW could have possible harmed her babies, the prosecution was preparing for a dirty, painful fight against CWs defense. That NK was involved, or the content of her web searches and conversations, is not LE or the prosecution's fault. MOO.

LOL, I must have missed this, never heard the cheese and cracker remark.

NK stated in her interview something along the lines that CW gave her space when she needed it and she mentioned Jim, another house guest, a get away she had with her girlfriends and she also said she made sure that he spent time with his girls when they were home and he had them. I get the feeling there’s more to it. She seemed to brush off the fact that CW was married and still living with his wife and kids. Was that to her benefit because she was seeing other people?

I don’t believe for a second that NK actually tried to persuade CW to work on his marriage. If she truly wanted to do that, all she would have had to do was remove herself from the situation! She didn’t. In fact, she was actively planning their future together. Taking the initiative to “help” him find his own apartment, googling things like weddings dresses and “marrying your mistress”, giving him advice on parenting the girls while divorced.

If she did in fact do any persuading it was likely more along the lines of giving him an ultimatum than anything else. He either needed to finalize the divorce with SW and move out of that house or she (NK) would be out of his life for good.

I do find it incredibly ironic that she spends the majority of her interview trying to paint herself as either a victim or a hero (depending on context). If I were in her situation, the very last thing I’d be worried about was how I got duped by my boyfriend and having a pity party over that. I would be devestated beyond belief that this family was so heinously murdered and would feel guilt beyond words that I may have somehow contributed to that in anyway. I would be doing any and everything to cooperate with LE to find the answers needed and put this monster where he belongs so he could never destroy another life again.

But she obviously wasn’t devestated. She seemed largely unshocked and callous throughout most of the interview. It was like it was a total game to her, even going so far as to try and take control of the interrogation herself. She repeatedly elevates herself and makes herself out to be the hero in the whole situation. Even in death, the woman is trying to compete with Shannan.

I’m sorry but I just can’t muster up an ounce of sympathy for NK.

After listening to the first couple minutes last night, I had to double check the date of her interview. I was certain this must have been before she knew they had all been murdered. Her tone was just so......off

I think my niece used to “vocal fry” but just when she was being rude and/or cynical. NK’s voice/demeanor was repulsive to me. I listened to the entire audio, but cringed the entire time. She kept professing how independent she was, was self righteous and proclaimed things implying he was more into her such as “we need to take it slow,” but at the same time seemed to micromanage everything about him (e.g., “you need to spend those days with your kids”), when it was none of her business. What’s the saying, the lady doth protest too much? I think she was obsessed with him.

I don’t think she had any fore or after knowledge, nor do I think “if not for her they’d be alive.” He would have found someone else. It’s all on CW. He made his choices. He’s so despicable, and the video of him explaining the girls’ being put into the tanks was revolting. Eat some pizza? There are no words to describe him.

Can you believe CW's actions at the interview.
Calmly shows how girls were placed into the tank openings.
Then, not happy that he will be eating LE's food.o_O
Then eats pizzas, plus more.
This is a moron.
MOO.

but she adds, “I legitimately think his cheese was sliding off his cracker long before he met me,” says Kessinger.
What person, seriously upset or in grief over murders of children, in which she appears to be a factor as a motive, would say something like that. So blasé and as a sassy sitcom teen might say.

And "I legitimately think"...huh? as opposed to not really thinking at all before she performs?

This gal is 30.

Oddly his mother says he has a very high IQ. 180?? Then again it could be a lie :)

I don't see how it's possible. I mean I feel like even a person with low emotional intelligence would be able to use logic and realize how stupid he sounds.

Maybe he just had nowhere else to go.

I can completely believe his actions. After those news interviews, nothing surprises me about him.

Just more evidence that he is a sociopath.

Pass the pizza.

If you scroll down there are police body cam videos..

New videos, documents released by prosecutors in Watts case

NK said in the docs released earlier that CW facetimed her after the murders, he was on a bare mattress and was staring/fixated on her. I keep remembering it as a "blue mattress" but I can't find it now to verify. Am I remembering correctly that a color was mentioned? Because if you scroll down halfway there's a video of LE testing the baby monitor. The mattresses are bare. The master mattress is white. It appears the children's mattresses are white too. (Although they could be a pale blue.) So he either facetimed her from the basement or possibly one of the children's bedroom.

I am most curious about the discussions surrounding the plea agreement. His parents said in their statement they hope he makes a full confession. Did he admit it during the plea negotiations? I know the defense will not release anything but will the DA have anything in that regards?

Can someone link the discovery documents?

I think they can be found in the media doc thread in the located person's section. Posted around the 19th.

Maybe we can add links to the two discovery dumps to the first page of the thread?

Regarding the interview when RW comes in, CW mentions failing the poly, that they are going to keep him there, and then, before saying what happened, he says to RW "I don't want to protect her", several times. Paraphrased. RW repeats it, but does not seem surprised at that statement. Which makes me think once again that RW was prepped by the detectives as to what CW was going to say. His job was to get it out of CW.
Even with subtitles, it was not always clear.

Yeah I mean the plea is a "full confession".
