I’ve thought all along that the phone was one of his biggest mistakes! It’s a problem with no solution, at least as far as BM is concerned.
That phone had to be dead before he left the house, as he had to take it with him to dispose of it.
In BM’s bike ride narrative, he’d claim that the phone is missing because Suzanne had it with her. The issue is her phone had to have gone dark many hours before. So she’d have to have gone on a bike ride with a phone that was turned off, and never powered on since BM “last saw her at 5am.”
What’s it called when you checkmate yourself?
BBM:
Ha!
I don't know what they call it in chess, on account of chess is dumb.
But in hockey, when a player puts the puck in his own net, it's referred to as an "own goal."
We've seen numerous moronic killers (Frazee, Stauch, et al.) who've managed to rack up a sizable lead for their opponents before they even took to the court(room).
This case will be no exception.

BBM:
From your lips to God's ears GK. Lets hope that another stellar example of "moronocity" will lead to an arrest in the not-so-distant future!!

MassGuy: “They just can’t yet prove the crime was murder, and Barry is responsible.”
Topppps: “I don't believe LE has the goods.”
A common theme shared by some of the most informed sleuthers.

I agree, Barry’s circumstance is pathetic and stressful. His only play is to do nothing and hope that law enforcement does not gather enough evidence to arrest him. To most of us, this situation would be anxiety producing to the max. Since LE has not released any public information, he has no clue what evidence they do or do not have on him.Oddly enough, BM has never mentioned her phone. Really he's never mentioned any critical information which would be helpful in solving Suzanne's disappearance.
Barry has no legal moves left in his game of chess, he's at a stalemate - with LE, Suzanne's family, and the majority of folks like us that have followed this case. IMO~

Perhaps it is not that bothersome to Barry as he may not possess these neurotypical sentiments.
IMO
In those interviews he’s come across as a complete jerk too. Everyone who has spoken out is some sort of criminal or “meth bead.”BBM:
I think we've seen definite indicators that BM has become increasingly anxious.
Back on August 12th, I posted this about the flyer distribution and SM's family talking to both the PE guys and LS/MSM at the 3-month mark of her disappearance:
"LE is hitting his pressure points, and as a result, the person who killed SM is likely experiencing a ton of pressure, both external and internal, as a result of everything that's unfolded this past week….
LE has all but officially named him a suspect at this point.
They aren't coming right out and saying it, though, which is also brilliant strategy.
The more ambiguous their words and actions are, the more anxiety SM's killer will feel.
Anxiety is a hard emotion to just sit with…generally, anxiety produces a reaction.
Either a person talks, or a person acts. "
Since the time of that post, two things have happened:
BM has talked.
BM has taken action.
He's definitely anxious.
Deservedly so.

I keep going back and forth a bit on this, so my cop-out answer to it is "pre-pondered, hastily planned".@Hoosierfan72, is your sense cold, preplanned or crime of passion/rage/fear?
Is it possible he's struggling with coming to terms with what he's done, never thinking he'd be capable?
And the dramatic cover up, a desperate measure to protect his hard-fought image of the Godly man?
This "thing" that has happened to him...
I'm guessing NO ONE dreamed (nightmared) he could do such a thing, perhaps including him????

When Barry’s mask and facade are threatened, he becomes angry. Barry seems to be very concerned with how he appears to others. He requires: big house, expensive cars, big muscles, pretty and compliant wife, and luxurious vacations. He’s all about appearances and when someone chips away at that, he gets angry. He seems to be able to convey anger when it relates to defending himself.
“I’ve heard the FBI lie and I know that they can legally do that in their investigations,” Barry said. “But it just pains me to know that they are doing this to me and my family.” Exclusive: Barry Morphew responds to explosive claims regarding the disappearance of wife, Suzanne | FOX21 News Colorado
Barry is pretty angry in the interview with Lauren you can hear his voice shaking, so that neurotypical cylinder is firing ok.
Zugzwang. It's not quite checkmating yourself but basically it's being forced to make a move that no matter what you do, it's going to put you in a worse position or make you lose the game.

The Germans always have such great words for complex concepts. My other favorite word of course is schadenfreude, which is deriving pleasure from watching someone else's misfortune. BM has given me lots of that every time he opens his mouth, and I hope to experience much more schadenfreude when BM is finally arrested.
And that concludes our vocabulary lesson of the day, BM edition.
In those interviews he’s come across as a complete jerk too. Everyone who has spoken out is some sort of criminal or “meth bead.”
He sounded angry and defiant, and used that time to bash his critics, defend himself, and didn’t bother to make an appeal for his missing wife.
He called the search a “publicity stunt,” and approached searchers with a gun.
Someone must have told him how bad a look that was, which is why he decided to allow people to check his property.
Of course he knew they’d find nothing.
He’s not only anxious, but appears to be unhinged. I hope that continues.
