I didn't realize that stores were going to that extent to enforce the "essential items." My trip to Wal-Mart last week, I started to buy my Grandson some underwear, is that essential, lol?
These restrictions are by county and were put into place Monday along with the state restrictions.

Family and emergency Dr. Janette Nesheiwat suggested that polyester, spandex-like material may retain germs longer than breathable cotton-based fabrics, making it important to wash leggings, underwear and dresses carefully (more on how to do that later!).

Aacckk! The kind I bought are 95% cotton/ 5% spandex - so not good? But as soon as I walk in the door, I wash the mask in hot water with Ivory soap then toss it in the dryer. I'll keep looking for something better . . . I wish I knew how to sew!

Well this is different. All around the country jails are releasing inmates but New Orleans is doing the opposite:

New Orleans Prosecutors Argue the Coronavirus Is a Reason to Keep People in Jail

As of Monday, New Orleans had the second-highest number of COVID-19 cases per capita in any American city. Public defenders have filed motions requesting lower bonds for people who may be especially vulnerable to the virus. Yet prosecutors are vigorously opposing these motions. They have, in fact, drafted boilerplate language to argue that people must stay locked up in jail to protect public health. Here is the passage that appears in all seven motions reviewed by Slate:

Pursuant to [state law], the trial court may consider “the nature and seriousness of the danger to any other person or to the community that would be posed by the defendant’s release” when setting a defendant’s bond. The defendant has failed to show that, if released on bond, he will have a residence to stay in while the city battles the Coronavirus outbreak. Nor has he demonstrated that he will adhere to any curfews and other safety measures set in place by city officials. If the defendant is released on bond during the Coronavirus outbreak and goes into public places, it will pose a threat to the general public by potentially spreading the virus to others and increasing the rate at which others are exposed to the virus.
That's what I was wondering about....but I also heard that some areas release prisoners to protect the guards and other staff.

Article on how to adapt your sick leave policy to be in compliance with federal law on COVID-19 situation. Maybe it only applies to nonprofits, not sure. Our university sent out an email to staff today who are working remotely and the email seemed to imply that if they didn't have enough work to do until the state lifts its stay-at-home order, then they would have to take sick days or not be paid, unless they are an official state-ordered quarantine. It doesn't apply to me, but it does apply to our hourly employees. I am worried about these employees, and will be studying the federal and state guidelines on this to see if the university is in compliance.

This mask is absolutely fine. Really and truly. It’s probably superior to a hundred percent cotton because the small amount of spandex makes it fit better.

Moo, we are advised of the minimum, our state gov’ know much much more, but on advice from the feds, we are not 100% informed, in order to prevent complete pandemonium.

it is stupid to let potential vectors of this virus loose to infect more people

By January 20, there was plenty of warning. By Feb 15, well, it was definitely on-going.

I figured it would take some time to get the ventilator manufacture up and going (good luck to those of us who get it before May 1). People are staying on ventilators a long time for this virus. Plus, there are the other people who need ventilators in the course of non-viral treatment.

I was thinking back in December when both of my children were ill. Their father was dying and they went everyday to the hospital in Louisville to see him. So many of the family caught what they thought was the flu, but it didn't show up in the tests. My daughter's throat got severely infected and she was bedridden for almost a week, My son flu like symptoms for almost a week also. Their Dad died on Christmas Eve so the timing could be right. They are both in their late 30's. He died of cirrhosis of the liver, not flu.
ETA...if it was here earlier, weaker form?

Yesterday I linked our gov’ PC, he gave authority to each mayor to close down home improvement stores, if they see too many people. I have not been but heard our Lowe’s is full of kids. I don’t get it.......
Our governor said we need to shop responsibly. I think that excludes holding a family reunion in the garden center of a box store. Moo

My BIL went to the one off Man-A-War and he said it was packed, he left.

JaneEyre - oh thank you for saying that! Makes me feel so much better. And, yes, the mask does fit well. The lady selling these is now offering a two-layer version with a pocket for a filter. Will probably get a couple of those too.

@Bailey my condolences. Yes, there was a “bug” going around Ky since before Xmas.
Remember.....the first case in a China was the first case in which the patient sought care. How many prior cases were slight & boarded a jumbo jet, traveling with more than their luggage? When I was sick, I was flu/strep negative. Never sicker in my life. One evening, I was 100% certain I would die, despite being in excellent physical shape.

Lord help Michigan if Wayne county/Detroit begins releasing inmates. Covid will be the least worry the state has, imo.

My own personal FYI- I have a notepad set up on my laptop, to save tidbits of COVID information.
Maybe general info, maybe a link. It is so maddening to try to remember when I might have read something, the try to re-locate it.
So....copy/paste/notepad! :)
MOO

I do this too, I have a draft in my email program where I copy/paste any links I want to be able to find again.

I crave my low carb cake in a cup every night! It's sort of a must have right now. Probably right about fear of running out of food, makes sense.

Ooh, can you give a recipe, or even just a description? My sweet tooth is strong but I am trying to limit carbs...
