Looking at gbc palm injury now.

Dr Wells said another mark on the face could indicated an interrupted movement as the parties moved.

"It's a very dynamic event," he said.

"Let's assume this is a fingernail producing this.

"There are two parties mobile. So there can be an interruption.

"Where the nail is lifted, whether one party moves slightly, that may cause a change in directionality.

"The nail itself could turn, instead of a straight linear line, a curved one across the skin.

"I'm trying to think what else could produce that but I might leave that to you," he told defence barrister Peter Davis.

It would have to be a very vigorous sort of scratching - Prof Wells. #badenclay

I did ask yesterday, but are the photos of the scratches clear. I am guessing they would be, its just that we only saw grainy images. Also did it look like he had shaven that morning? I wonder if he is partly hiding in the dock to hide his scars from these scratches as he no longer has his beard.

Yes Ali they are clear colour photographs up on two screens in front of us, one on either side of the bench. Much clearer than the grainy images we've seen.

It is hard for me to say if he shaved that morning - looks a bit shadowy.

Wonder if this will be consistent with bite marks - eg to a smothering hand over the mouth?

Allison's front tooth was a little of line, sad the experts couldn't see that in the bite marks

Doc, great thinking

in Gerards Record of Interview.. taped the morning of Allisons disappearance by the two detectives called in by Constable Ash, at his home , Gerard had an explanation for each and every visible mark on him. He didnt mention the chest stuff, or the shoulder stuff.., at that interview.. * (not to be confused with his non statement at the police station* ).. the two detectives didnt stip him, and he didnt pull off his shirt, but there were shaving incidents, a cut hand from inserting a ligh globe at a house he was 'launching' that day. .. ( that also was the explanation of Nige and the vacuum cleaner ) ... caterpillars, etc..

he'd been very uncoordinated in the previous 24 hours...

12.58pm: The court was also shown an injury on the palm of Baden-Clay's right hand.

But Prof Wells said it was impossible to tell what caused the wound.

''I've had to sit on the fence there,'' he said.

12.55pm: Prof Wells said the scratches on Baden-Clay's neck were ''close to parallel linear bruises''.

''I'm confident there is two of them, there may well be a third,'' he said.

''They were produced by blunt implement or implements producing bleeding within the skin.''

Prof Wells said the marks were either made using less force than those on Baden-Clay's face or they were made by fingernails through clothing.

Mr Davis asked whether the neck scratches were on a part of the body where they could have been self-inflicted.

''(They are) certainly accessible, yes,'' Prof Wells said

Circumstantial evidence may be compared to rope, a thick piece of cord made up of a number of strands of fibre. Not one of those strands alone may have very much strength, but when those strands are taken together the strength of the rope may be very great." - Justice Hunt, trial of Ivan Milat.

Thanks BJsleuth for this info on your signature, thought I would highlight it.

In the Milat case, a motive was never really established or proven! It was suggested that the motive was "Psychological gratification". Just goes to show how powerful circumstantial evidence can be.

That's it isn't it!! He smothered her with his hand. She chipped her tooth in the process. She bit him, perhaps he then used something else to finish. He startled her first, she knew what he was trying to do and faught hard. Of course all MOO.
