Oct. 21, 2023

Donald Trump's legal team is bringing on a new attorney to help fight a recent gag order imposed on the former president by Judge Tanya Chutkan.

Trump, who is running in the 2024 Republican presidential primary election, is fighting several legal battles and will face criminal trials starting next year. On Thursday, The Kansas City Star reported that former Assistant U.S. Attorney Will Scharf will join the former president's legal team on the federal case surrounding his role in the January 6, 2021, riot at the United States Capitol building when a group of his supporters violently protested the 2020 presidential election results.

I'm on the fence about whether or not the trial should be broadcast. I can see the pros and cons of streaming it and not streaming it.

This seems like a good solution, imo: record the proceedings but release the video later, not live.

In recordings shared with NYT, Australian billionaire Anthony Pratt recounts how Trump shared with him in Dec. 2019 a conversation he had with Iraq's leader right after a U.S. military strike there aimed at Iranian-backed forces.

On the recordings, Mr. Pratt recounts how Mr. Trump shared with him in December 2019 what he describes as elements of a conversation the president had with Iraq’s leader right after a U.S. military strike there aimed at Iranian-backed forces. Days later, a U.S. drone strike in Baghdad would kill Iran’s top security and intelligence commander.

At one point, Mr. Pratt said, Mr. Trump discussed the phone call he had with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine earlier that year that had helped lead to Mr. Trump’s first impeachment. “That was nothing compared to what I usually do,” Mr. Trump said, in Mr. Pratt’s recounting.

Another one who deserves jail time.

Trump's former chief of staff Mark Meadows granted immunity, tells special counsel he warned Trump about 2020
claims:

“Obviously we didn’t win.”

Yet he helped him try to steal the election, and continued to lie about it afterwards:

ABC News has identified several assertions in the book that appear to be contradicted by what Meadows allegedly told investigators behind closed doors.

According to Meadows' book, the election was "stolen" and "rigged" with help from "allies in the liberal media," who ignored "actual evidence of fraud, right there in plain sight for anyone to access and analyze."

But, as described to ABC News, Meadows privately told Smith's investigators that -- to this day -- he has yet to see any evidence of fraud that would have kept now-president Joe Biden from the White House, and he told them he agrees with a government assessment at the time that the 2020 presidential election was the most secure election in U.S. history.

What a weasel. Why did he write a book?!

Money? IMO
Yes, I assume so. But his testimony under oath seems to conflict with his book. I don't want to be so skeptical to think that was intentional, but....who knows. Seems to be a crowd full of greedy liars, tbh.

Jack Smith says in filing tonight that if Trump tries to mount an “advice of counsel” defense to his Washington, DC charges, it may be complicated by the fact that three of Trump’s lawyer codefendants just pleaded guilty in Georgia.

Donald Trump’s hunt for the “missing” Jan. 6 committee transcripts? Prosecutors say he’s had them since August — including nonpublic transcripts obtained from DHS and the White House.
