In a number of tweets from the base, employees expressed their fright. One tweet said people were stuck on the fourth floor of the headquarters building, while the shooter was firing from the third floor. Others wrote of being incredulous that a shooter could get inside the building.

A woman who gave her name as Terry Durham said that as she and co-workers were evacuating, she saw a man down the hall raise a rifle and fire toward them, hitting a wall. “He was tall. He appeared to be dark-skinned,” she said.

“He was a tall black guy,” said her co-worker, Todd Brundage, who is black. “He didn’t say a word.”

The Navy said "several" people were killed at the Navy Yard. Local media said at least three were dead and several more people were wounded.

One victim was reported to be on the roof of a building, reported News4's Tony Tull. A U.S. Park Police helicopter hovering above the scene around 9:50 a.m. lowered a basket to a building and lifted what appeared to be a shooting victim from the roof. The helicopter came back to the scene just after 10 a.m. to retrieve another victim.

The school that my husband teaches at was on lockdown a couple of weeks ago. The students and teachers stayed inside their classrooms until they were given the all clear.

He could see the shooter was a man dressed in what appeared to be blue clothing. He said he could not tell if it was a uniform.

Asked whether the gunman said anything, Ms. Durham said “not a word. He raised the gun and started firing.

Per CNN, Navy Yard spokesman (didn't catch name) says two shooters are down.

Take with a grain of salt, CNN isn't always the best with breaking info.

Adding in - Ed Ziegler (sp?) is name they just gave as spokesman again.
