Decorah, IA - Bald Eagle Cam: Watch the babies! #2

have we comeup with a name for our newest addition?? I have been calling him ostrich with my kids. The first couple of days he kept trying to bury his head into the nesting material.

YEA YEA YEA YEA he's safe. Finally got back closer in. Boy that other one is being mean. I guess he's the "bully" of the group. lol

Thought we called the last one - Finally?

its really amazing how quickly they seem to be growing up. They seem much "fuzzier" the last couple days.

Dad was lurching forward at the flies. He just does not like them!

Sorry, I haven't read the whole thread..how long will it be until these little ones leave the nest?

  • #168
8-11 weeks

  • #169
I found it...thanks! About 10-12 weeks. Wow, how will mom and dad keep these three in that nest for that long? Lol, Sassy looks ready to go!

http://www.baldeagleinfo.com/eagle/eagle4.html

really great info about eagles. I did not know an oldest Eaglet may kill the runt and that the parents will do nothing to intervene. Particularly if the oldest chick is a female.

Lots of good facts about what we can expect to see as these little ones grow.

Wow, that was a great feeding session...front row seats! Everyone got some for sure. :)

  • #173
wonder what all those vocalizations are about?

  • #174
is that sassy who is eating again? Growing up so fast must be hard work :)

  • #175
uh oh, now they're all hungry again.

  • #176
The parents ball up their talons so they wont hurt the eaglets. That is why they looks so funny when they are trying to settle in on top of the babies.

Hi friends!

Oh boy, we were watching earlier when Finally was close to the edge. I really thought she was going to go over. My 8 year old son started crying and we had to have a long talk about nature. Anyone notice how the babies get so crazy on dad's watch? <snicker> Even my son was saying "please let the mama come back now please!!" :giggle: I think dad just has trouble containing them because he is smaller. He needs to get the scoop down too lol.

lol, dad does seem to struggle with controlling the little ones doesn't he. He tries, bless him, but he just doesn't have mama's sure and no nonsense manner.

  • #179
Wow, is the third baby okay?

Baby three...to the right of the screen, doesn't look right. The other two are eating but it's not and it's so close to the edge.
