Decorah, IA - Bald Eagle Cam: Watch the babies! #2

  • #381
The wind advisory has expired. They are gusting around 20-30 MPh it supposed to last through tomorrow afternoon then calm down to around 10-15 MPH

She's such a good mamma

Momma is taking a beating... and I think Sassy is trying to keep getting out from under her. Momma has to keep re arranging herself to cover her back up.

Wow, that really is some wind. Poor mama's tail keeps getting blown up into the air. There's a rotating cell that just doesn't want to move on. At least they are on the edge of it. She sure is getting her feathers fluffed.

My heart is just pounding here...I really can't watch for very long because I'm so scared that wind is just going to blow both Momma and babies right out of that nest. But I'm finding it absolutely fascinating how this magnificent fowl and her mate have cared for their offspring and how very capable she is of protecting them from this ferocious weather.

I wonder why she doesn't turn around to face the wind. I would hate to have my tail blown up like that!

Can't tell who is on the nest now and his/her head is buried and appears to be sleeping. But it is for sure. Someone brought a fish or something in a few minutes ago. Food seems to be plentiful, which is good.

The nest is right by a trout fish hatchery. These birds ain't stupid! :floorlaugh:

:waitasec: Maybe cause they always tuck the babies down in front. It is hard to get them all tucked in now that they are getting bigger. Could be she wants the wind to hit her first, even if it blows her feathers up?

I hadn't thought of that, it makes sense. She's going to be really tired in the morning.

Poor Mom! She didn't seem to get much sleep last night with all the thunder and lightening. Tonight she has to deal with this strong wind. :( I hope she can catch 40 winks when Dad takes over tomorrow. :offtobed:

I'm thinking better wind blowing at my butt than my face where it would be hard to breathe. But that's just me and I'm not a bird.

Wow, she looks to be sleeping soundly! Maybe all that rocking puts her to sleep too! How can she sleep through all of that LOL

I think they are awesome, and I wish more parents had their qualities. I hope their feathers are like geese, and keep them warm. I am so glad we have the opportunity to watch them, fears and all.

With my first sip of coffee at 5, I watched the chicks trying to get out from under Mom. She just did make sounds as if calling room service for breakfast. It won't be long before she can no longer keep them all under if they don't want to be.

Good Morning my Cam Fam. =) Getting my early morning Eagle fix before heading in to work. Looks like Mama is feeding the babies and daddy is cleaning up the nest. I am so glad to see that they are all ok with the wind storms in the area last night. How are our locals holding up?

awww...poor parents look so wiped out -- just like my birds at home when they are trying to stay awake their blinks keep getting longer and longer... i hope they can sneek a few winks today and hopefully this rotten wind is out of here for awhile!

Almost 7 am central time -- looks like everything has settled down and dad(?) is sitting on the eaglets. Maybe mom had to go to the toilet or needed a break after last night. Whew... glad they survived last night's wind and the rocking nest! Let's hope they have a calm and uneventful day!
