Decorah, IA - Bald Eagle Cam: Watch the babies! #2

Feeding time! Everybody is wide awake and hungry this sunny morning. The wind seems to have died down.

ETA Dad just arrived with breakfast ...a fish (I think) Both parents are feeding the babies.

Dad does give the biggest bites!

When one pecks the other on the head, it seems to go down and stay down - I wonder if they are stunned or if they are just being docile?

Mom just left the babies alone. Wonder why?

Feeding time again. Finally was asleep while the other two munched away. Now they're both in a food-induced coma and she's getting her fill. Huge bites so I'm wondering if it's dad doing the feeding. They are zoomed in close on the babies and mom/dad has his/her back to the camera so I can't tell who it is.

Feeding is done now and yep, it's dad. He's picking at the nest now.

So weird. When they were feeding and the camera was zoomed way in, it was crystal clear. Now he's panning all around and the pixelation is horrible.

I was with the kids at the park last night. It sits right on the Cedar River which is a tributary of the Mississippi and we saw 1 adult bald eagle and 2 younger ones (still had the brown heads although had white tails) the kids were running around screaming it's a REAL one mom!! It's here in our town!!!

Wow I leave to make the dreaded Walmart trip and get back to see they are still eating!! I wonder how many times they are fed a day?

There must be a predator around tonight. Both mom and dad are there and staying. Seems they are on alert too.

Wonder if its a hawk or owl?

It was an owl...they were all in extreme danger last night

Owls and raccoons eat the eggs, i don't think they take babies.. i suppose if the nest was unattended one might though since they eat cats!

Their instincts blow my mind. I have learned so much, not only about eagles, but about wild animals in general watching this family. It brings tears to my eyes but happy tears

That is soooo true! I posted yesterday that this is they way parents are supposed to rear their young...not dispose of them like trash:banghead:

Mom just started squawking like crazy and then she flew off. Well, I shouldn't say it was mom, I wasn't paying attention to who it was. But now the babies are alone again.

I didn't even realize we had a thread on this. I've been watching since last week and all I can say is Mother Nature is absolutely awesome and so is Bob Anderson!!! This has been one of the absolute greatest events that I've ever witnessed.

A little sad here too but chicks do leave the nest. The parents and three chicks have educated and delighted millions around the world, how much more famous can one be for something good? I won't know for sure but choose to believe they will all survive, stay in the area and hope this helps with the struggles to maintain trees and prohibit water polution etc. Mother nature has provided the basics and it is up to us to use these lessions not only for the survival of these wonderful creatures - but our own.

Tuned in just in time to see the camera pan the surrounding countryside...the budding leaves on the eagle's tree, the farm, the water,the barn and a close up of the horses. Awesome to get an idea of what the eagles are seeing!
