Decorah, IA - Bald Eagle Cam: Watch the babies! #2

  • #621
so I've been wondering if mom/dad flew by one of their youngsters someday, would they recognize each other?

I've been wondering if when one of the adults comes back to the nest if there is any acknowledgement between them. Like, Hi Babe, I'm back !!! The daddy is very tender with the babies - so cool. I saw the fattest one trying to see how his wings worked today. :rocker:

It's hard to believe these 2 have been together as mates since 2008. I bet they instinctively know their grown children when they fly by them. Not really sure about that.

Don't their feathers have to be grown in before they are pushed out of the nest?

Is the camera lens covered in bird poop? LOL

They will not fledge until june.

And that's probably snow on the lens

How can I feed my addiction with all that snow on the lens? LOL!

Lorann, Did an Owl really attack?

I was walking one day and a huge owl swooped down outa nowhere and snagged a bunny. That poor bunny was squealing as it was carried away. I was so upset! But I know thats how Mother Nature works.

Snow and rain in the morning...then snow...light sleet and rain in the afternoon. Breezy...colder. Snow and sleet accumulation up to 2 inches. High in the upper 30s. Northeast wind 15 to 20 mph with gusts to around 30 mph. Chance of precipitation near 100 percent.

All I heard was Mama making noises, a swoop sound like we heard before, so I can't say what it was. Then the screen got partially covered.

My DIL has a lot of little blue birds and watches their nests. They build them on fence posts etc, low. Besides the many owls nearby, snakes raid the nests too. As you say, Mother Nature works that way but when you "know" the family, it breaks your heart. My neighbors cat hides in the flower bed around my birdbath and I was finding feathers...I bought the cat a collar with a bell on it.

We're getting it over here in Madison too, Peeples. Doesn't this suck????? I'm so DONE!!

Wow, I can't believe it's snowing there when it's going to be over 90 here today! I guess it just feels like it should be summer everywhere once our temps here reach that high.

LOL! lorann you are a good problem solver.

We had a bluebird house outside our classroom when I taught 1st grade. The children were fascinated with them. I liked it so much that I put one in my backyard at home. Hurricane Floyd took it out and I never put it back up. :waitasec:

Sounds like ya'll are in for some awful weather Peeples. I am just now able to see the nest for the first time this morning. Mama looks absolutely pathetic. They've got to be absolutely miserable. I wish I could send ya'll some Florida sunshine your way.

Dad just flew to get some food I am guessing

It's awful and people forgot how to drive and there is cars careening off of overpasses, rolling over, hitting light poles etc.. it's a mess right now.

Poor thing to be covered with snow/sleet like that. My prayers are with you all Peeples. I, too, wish you some warmth and sunshine.
