I'd agree, this psychiatrist wasn't aware of it. For whatever reason. Could be something so simple as the person was on vacation or a business trip.

Here's is just another example of him planning the attack and even setting up his own defense, now with this notebook to a psychiatrist. Interesting how he's so concerned about himself and even going this far, but yet shot and murdered children deliberately when targeting people in the theatre.

Actually the ultimate ego trip for him, if he does get off for mental illness, since he's went to such great lengths to think ahead. He'll be laughing out the institution door to see how gullible people were and how brilliant he thinks himself to be. That's the sad part, and I hope his plans never work, unless it's another jury like the one in Florida we recently had to see.

I am not sure his defense is going to like this. It points to premeditation. But if he really send it to be delivered before the rampage, it does sound like he could have been hesitating. But I don't think that's going to help his defense. There are serial killers to send letters to the press, etc. Catch me if you can.

Of course they are not going to let him walk free in a few years. But he may escape the DP, and eventually be given some leeway.

The pyscho that decapitated a stranger on the bus and began eating his head, was sent to a hospital, and was recently given permission to have field trips with other patients.

I don't think they were sent before the shooting, I think that is misinformation.

In the off that they were, and one is from defendant, he may have known the "psychiatrist" would not receive it, and may have been mocking said "psychiatrist."

I really think these were the packages that arrived Monday, especially given the descriptions.

Weeks before the massacre, Holmes failed part of his first-year exam and dropped out from graduate school at the University of Colorado-Denver, CBS News correspondent Anna Werner reports.

David Eagleman, who currently runs the Initiative on Neuroscience and the Law at Baylor University, said a widely circulated video of Holmes making a presentation at the institute was misleading. Eagleman said the words were prepared by his advisers.

"He was just given the presentation to read," Eagleman told USA Today. "He wasn't any sort of superscientist when he was 18."

Agree. It does seem these type of killers often have a manifesto. Somewhere. He would likely know how quiet the University was during summer months. It would be discovered "after". I wonder if it contained any comments etc. for us to "understand" him? Or simply all part of his game. He certainly is very complex :moo:

I don't understand what you're saying. A psychiatrist can't release information unless the patient is an immediate danger to themselves or someone else (ex. "I plan to take my life/someone else's life" or "I plan to cause harm"). If they don't, there is not an obligation to report. If JH had disclosed plans of the murders, the psychiatrist would have to report it. But if he was simply 'stressed about school' or ' depressed', there would not be reason to believe he would be dangerous.

ITA. Could be many reasons why a student going to see a psychiatrist (assuming JH ever actually did). Anxiety about tests, inability to concentrate, etc. Psychiatrists can not report these issues to anyone due to doctor patient confidentiality.

That's what it sounds like to me. Stick figures with guns. Even if they questioned him before hand, I guess he could always claim it was just a comic.

Do you have additional facts that might help us understand your reasoning?
Is there a mailbox at the theatre that you believe he mailed the package from after the massacre and before his arrest?

We don't even know if Holmes ever saw the shrink. Apparently the Dr. did not recognize the students name on the return address. Sounds to me like he was not a patient.
