Or because they drank themselves into oblivion.

Yeah. Honestly, it looked to me like that guy was too wasted to do any kind of attack. They probably took off shoes, jumped in the water, playing around, a wave knocked them over, and he made it back to the beach, probably wandered back to the hotel. He probably didn't even think about her.

This could very close to the truth.

The extent of my original post was that this young man may get less of a benefit of any doubt if that benefit makes the beaches or resorts appear less safe.
<snipped for focus>

I agree, and I think that if the DR could find fault with an American student for the disappearance of SK, then it would also be to their advantage.

I have to say, considering the amount of CCTV type surveillance, any person who might have committed any crime and was set free to wander about for 10 days would be pretty darned stupid to do anything more than sit in their room. JMO, of course, but if I were in those stolen shoes and especially innocent of any crime, I would not be able to function anyway.
I think back to Idaho 4 where he went back to drive by the crime scene the next morning (brazen as heck) and a case here in Canada where Douglas Garland (killer) snuck back to the residence police told him not to go near (he was being surveilled) to try to hide/clean up evidence of his crime. He was arrested on breach or something.

Both so stupid to do that in MOO! I am hoping if Riibe did anything violent to her he's not that smart either. JMO

Joshua Steven Riibe has been transferred to another location, after a week of being detained at the Riu Hotel.

Riibe’s lawyers will make a formal request today for the return of his passport and phone, which are still in the possession of the Dominican authorities.

As a side note, I think the idea of "lacking ordinary care" being a criminal offense in France fits with what little I know about Napoleonic Code concepts.

The Napoleonic code seems to have the concept that one has the responsibility to contribute to a stable society, maybe by taking ordinary care. So..... if your ineptitide gets somebody hurt, its criminal?

For example, a Navy Shore Patrol Senior Petty Officer explained to me that he had to take creature comforts and do health and welfare checks on a Marine imprisoned in Tijuana. His offense was:

- Goes to a, well, illegal, but tolerated brothel. - Gets into a fight with a local. - Marine leaves.
- Mexican police come, local tries to stab one of the police. They shoot and kill the local.

The Mexican police then track down the Marine. He is put in jail for two years under the idea of:

- You needed to contribute to society by conducting yourself better (eptitude?) If you had not gotten into a fight, we would not of been called. The local would not of tried to stab one of us. We would not have need to shoot him- in this case, fatally. So, you are going to jail even though you were not even there.

It is all complicated, and each and every case is different. What it comes down to, however, is “problem drinking”.

“Problem drinking” is exactly what it says; it is one’s pattern of drinking and behaving when drunk that causes problems. It is true for Josh R; seems true for the Marine, too, since being drunk, he got in a fight with a local in a brothel. The rest is his misfortune, but the locals’ attitude is, “you created this problem”. In both cases, for others more than for themselves.

The issue is that people minimize their alcohol use because they like it and can get away with it. Usually DUI indicates problem drinking. Or a partner leaving. But these two cases, JR and the marine you spoke about, should go down in history as examples for others. It is up to JR what to do when he gets back (I suspect one can’t extract more from the brain in alcoholic fog). In his shoes, I’d join the AA group (it could be a good source for him since he, per parents’ report, is religious, and AA is religion-based). If he just tries to forget it all and go with his life, sooner or later another “problem” will emerge.

As always, my best wishes go to Sudiksha’s parents in the hope that she’ll be eventually found.

It sure sounds like he is in custody. "transferred"

Didn’t he send his friends down to retrieve his things? Wonder why he didn’t go himself? This seems odd.

Disminuyen búsqueda de Sudiksha Konanki en Punta Cana

Thirteen days have passed since the mysterious disappearance of Sudiksha Konanki from Punta Cana, and this Wednesday the scene in the search area is completely different. Rescue teams have disappeared from the beach where the young woman was last seen.

What, for days, has been the scenario of intense activity, with more than 300 officers mobilised on land, sea and air, today appears deserted. (…)

Noticias SIN has tried to obtain responses from the Navy, Civil Defence, Red Cross and other organisations involved in the search operation, but the lack of information only serves to add more mystery to this case, which has captured international attention.

Hard to say...Translated: "According to reports provided to this outlet, the incident will be classified as an "accidental drowning," and they assert that no criminal involvement was involved in Konanki's disappearance."

JMO - I think it is related to what the witnesses say. Either no one saw him sleeping on the beach that morning, or maybe people who saw him upon return thought that he looked strange.

DR is an international resort and some potential witnesses might have left. It takes some time to contact everyone.

P.S. if there is a high index of suspicion that JR is involved, it is great that he has lawyers. Everything by the book.

I think that unless her body shows up in the next couple days with obvious signs of foul play, this case is about to get wrapped up and closed as a drowning as far as the D.R. authorities are concerned.

It exists up-thread. Again the vid is super grainy. (????) If they were throwing up it could have had something to do with what they ate.
Actually, consuming too much tequila, like other alcoholic beverages, can induce vomiting due to the irritation of the stomach lining and the body's attempt to eliminate the alcohol.
