On Saturday, the search was extended to include the area towards the Port of Aberdeen's South Harbour and Duthie Park.

Officers are now carrying out fresh searches along the river, which still has floating ice patches on its surface following a week of plunging temperatures.

It is featured on the Mail Online, but not remotely near a headline.

Helpful picture showing an Ariel view of the path leading from the bridge to the boat club.

I'm surprised the Daily Mail (ugh) or some of the bigger tabloids haven't picked up more on this. Two out of three triplets missing is highly unusual.
I think that there are several reasons, one being that there are other big stories at the moment and also I think that it is more than likely the police think they are in the river rather than missing and need information from the public.

Sadly I suspect tragic accident, one trying to save the other or planned suicide. Sometimes it's not obvious to family members that something is wrong until the act is attempted or completed.

I am curious about the time they were out, this would lead more towards planned suicide imo.

Also curious if they were twins out of the triplet set (they shared a separate sack from their other sister in the womb). Maybe they were closer because of this??

All moo

If they intended to self harm, what I don’t understand is why they would choose this method. It sounds as if they were likely living together and I get the impression, quite homely types. Wouldn’t you choose to do it at home? My opinion is that for whatever reason, they were out and accident in the river. Or they are still out there somewhere.

For people struggling to understand why this would be a suicide, there is no "suicidal" way to act beforehand and not all suicidal people act the same way before the end. Some are very happy, some sad, some walk to their final destination, some run. Some take their dogs as if they are out for a walk, others leave their phones behind. And in this case, some take their bags.

These ladies came into the world together and they left together and there will be a reason why they wanted it to end that way.

Let's hope they are found soon.

For me personally it’s not that I’m struggling to understand the why of it, mental health is unpredictable. For me, it’s that there’s nothing reported that leads to it being suicide vs an accident or something else. There’s actually nothing reported that points to anything at all except they were out late and it may or may not make sense. I hate the idea of putting suicide on someone until suicide is specifically being pointed at for a reason. It’s a different kind of hurt for everyone involved imo

i think there could be a couple of reasons. it’s all speculation of course, as we don’t even know whether it was self harm!

i think women tend to choose less violent methods, drowning might fit that. some people also don’t want to make a mess in their home or don’t want loved ones to be the ones who find them. there’s also the idea of drowning being a more romantic (for the lack of a better word) way to go, think virginia woolf, ophelia.

Police divers have been deployed to the River Dee in Aberdeen in the search for two sisters who disappeared five days ago in the city.

On Sunday, a police marine unit was seen patrolling the river and a diver was spotted in the water. Specialist search teams and police dogs have also been trying to trace the pair.

Valid points made.

I don’t believe for a minute that this is a double suicide.
I think this is a very tragic accident - most likely one sister slipped from the bank into the water and the second tried to save the first with accidental drowning for both.
I think there is still a very very slim chance of foul play/ abduction.
I fully realize that there are young people who choose suicide but I would be absolutely shocked if that turns out to be the case here.
Praying for this sweet family- this is such a sad story.
All imho

On Sunday, police were seen searching the River Dee amid freezing conditions, with patches of ice and snow visible on the water. The search for the sisters has included the police helicopter, dog branch and marine unit, as well as emergency service partners.

CCTV footage from the area where Eliza and Henrietta were last seen is also being examined, with door-to-door enquiries being carried out. Officers added the Dee remains the focus of searches, as there is no evidence the missing women left the immediate area.

I agree. For a couple of quiet women, why choose such a public way to end your life, with the whole country out looking for them.

It still doesn't explain why they were out there that late at night. I could see one tagging along with the other if there was an asap cleaning job that needed to be done. They took a short cut on the footpath...

Maybe evidence at the abode will reveal the mystery?

The girls sister, Edit, said it was out of character for them to be out in the early hours of the morning, so it seems unlikely they were on their way to a cleaning job at 2AM.

Their sister Edit Huszti - the other triplet - said she spoke to them on a video call on New Year's Eve and they appeared happy and cheerful. She said the sisters were very close and did most things together.

She added that she believed it was quite out of character for them to be out on the streets in the early hours of the morning.

I think so too, but I'm struggling with the why. Why were they there, at that time of night? There seems to be no reason. That's what makes me not want to rule out suicide.

The girls sister said she believed. The girls sister also lived in another country. I just don’t feel we can rely on this as concrete characteristic of them.

I was thinking the same. People can hide things from family but especially so when in another country. I'm taking the out of character and no mental health issues with a pinch of salt. People often change when they move to a different country, their attitudes to life, habits, hobbies. Would family really know if the ladies were partial to a 2am walk or not? Just because you are not aware of something doesn't mean it does not exist.
