I u/stand this logic but we can also go back to student Libby Squire, i would say this is probably the same kind of river leading into the sea. Humber river leading to the north sea. Albeit it has been said luck was definitely on their side for her poor family finding her. It was also in January, 2019 to be precise!

There's been many times during this case that my thoughts have gone to poor Libby
The path by the Dee is much closer to the sea than the point at Oak Road playing fields where Libby went in, so unfortunately I don't think there's a very long window in which it's likely for the sisters to be found. If they're in the water, obviously, which is my personal opinion

I do think suicide is the best hypothesis at the moment. Especially with the wanting to immediately end their rental contract withot any such comments to the family.

But I am trying to keep my mind open to other options, mostly linked to:
* two people, even twins, committing suicide together is still not common, even though it's possible
* the bag and other items (why did they take the bag and why have none of the clothes etc been found)
* a less common method of suicide combined with the area being an odd choice for suicide, but at the same time being well-known for shady stuff (that might even interrupt a 2AM suicide).

Also unlikely, but I tried to think that could some sort of a more psychotic mental health episode also be an option? It could possibly explain the worry from "possessions left at the home" while "not indicating self-harm" - something just super odd and not normal. It could also explain cryptic interractions with the landlord and irrational actions and ending up in the water (due to either misadventure, delusions or still suicide). This is of course also unlikely to hit two people at once, but maybe only one of them having psychosis could end up with the same outcome (with the other either not yet understanding what's going on or trying to safeguard and support the other).

re your last paragraph follie a deux - we had an instance recently in the UK with the two sisters running onto the motorway

Police Scotland has dismissed claims made about two missing sisters who disappeared in Aberdeen more than a week ago while walking through the city centre. According to media reports in their native Hungary, Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, both 32, had been partying with a 'group of males' before they suddenly vanished.

However, investigators have ruled any such gatherings out and said they had accurately and conclusively traced the pair - two of triplets - from their home to the location where they were last seen. The rebuttal comes after Hungarian news outlet Blikk quoted one woman in Aberdeen who said she knew the missing women, reports the Scottish Daily Express.

Giving her name only as Ana, she stated: "We know that the two girls were having fun with a friend of theirs, and a group of men (sic) and then when they were heading home...." But police sources said that was absolutely untrue and they know both women left their own home in the city early on the morning of Tuesday, January 7.

How rubbish to be making false claims about missing people!

Thank you

The disappearance of two sisters in Aberdeen a week ago is not being treated as a criminal inquiry, police have confirmed.

Speaking at a media event by the River Dee, he said: "There are no suspects. This is not a criminal inquiry, this is a missing persons inquiry." He said the force had "a number of hypotheses" and they were remaining open-minded in terms of what may have happened.

Supt Howieson said the sisters appeared to have been living a normal life in Aberdeen.

'We've carried out extensive inquiries in terms of the state of mind the sisters may have been in, the lifestyles, movements, contact with friends and family," he said. "Everything that we have gleaned so far suggests that they were happily living this life in Aberdeen - working, socialising with friends and keeping in touch with family in an entirely normal manner.''

Too obvious? The chance of being seen and stopped? The chance of drawing attention to themselves? The chance of being caught on CCTV? Maybe the liked the quiet darkness and lack of cameras to quietly slip away, or to take time to prepare by taking medication, alcohol etc?

Details are vague, but it seems the women may have notified the landlady they were leaving immediately, which in itself is odd. It's unclear if messages were exchanged between the 2 parties, or if something like a note was given to the landlady. If they said they'd already left, it would not be odd to go there and see if it was vacant, had damage etc. It has since been reported that all their belongs were still there, including a phone, and apparently come concerning materials. This in itself is strange, and coupled with the immediate severing of the lease, and I'm guessing a lack of contact with the women, the landlady felt it best to call police.
If the girls were intent on suicide why would they bother telling the landlord they were terminating their tenancy immediately?
It's all so strange.

That would certainly have prompted the quick response and might very well be the case. The police won't state that publically of course.

It doesn't need to have been a suicide note, but some writing that was of concern.
Potentially but I’d imagine CCTV footage would have been quickly found of them, the police have direct access to many cameras in the city and it would have led them to that area towards the bridge, then add in the call of screams in the nearby area and the current weather conditions would have painted a picture of needing urgency pretty swiftly to those making decisions within the police, wether it was a non-suicide but goodbye type note or not.

For the same reason people pay the bills, cancel the paper or the milk delivery, etc. People often have a list of things to do and work through it.

Maybe they had a good relationship with their landlord and wanted her to know to start looking for tenants so she wouldn't be out of pocket.

Maybe they thought that without telling her, it would take longer for their absence to be noticed.

MOO

They maybe respected her, so may have been letting her know to get new tenants, may have left a sum to square up for the rest of the term due etc etc seeing it seems an abrupt, out of the blue ending of the tenancy.

Which is also why the landlady may have visited, to ask what was going on, and if everybody was ok/situation ok etc.

Pure speculation.. but minor details/distraction.

The big one is why were they there at 2:12am near a river.

Maybe they did not want the landlady to lose rent on the flat if they were no longer going to be paying it or it could have been their way of alerting people that they had gone missing and their family told of their disappearance.

I wonder if they were making plans of some sort but were rumbled at the last minute and had to flee leaving everything behind. Escaping someone or something, or getting out of there because they could sense danger of some sort. Maybe they had planned to go somewhere with someone but changed their mind and decided to disappear instead to a safe place. It's possible they were lined up to be involved in some sort of dodgy behaviour but decided against it at last minute and had a change of heart. It seems like there was a sudden sense of urgency during that night/early morning. Or it's possible whatever they were involved with was brought forward in time and required them to act quicker than expected, hence the belongings in the flat being left as is.

I know them intentionally entering the water is the most likely explanation given what the police have stated. It is clearly the main hypothesis.
However, I do think this is a possibility. There is a sense they left in the middle of the night, unplanned and with a sense of urgency.

Yeah I agree. Whatever their reasoning, I do believe their family didn't really know them on a deep level.

Is it possible they terminated their lease at the start of all this, only for some sort of plan to then fall through (maybe scammed by someone), resulting in the sisters coming up with the decision to disappear thinking they were in a hole

Not sure though because reversing a decision to leave the tenancy would surely be allowed

Police doubling down on the certainty about the river … what the landlady found was enough for her to call immediately and what police found let them to investigate cctv at the river. Research notes maybe?? Last will n testament??
A will and other personal financial documents, together with the contact details of their family, left in a prominent position would certainly cause concerns
