It's pretty difficult to comprehend a dual self-harm type pact, although I believe a similar case has been referenced where that was the case. These sisters are twins/2 of triplets and both moved to Scotland together so are obviously very close. Twins are probably more likely to be so close as to mutually agree to a tragic outcome.

Alternatively, could one of them have been going through something, and has led the other one there in an ambush of type of thing. I think I'd read early in the thread that only 1 of the sister was known to be working at a coffee shop, but it was unknown if the other was in work. Correct me if I'm wrong on that.
Seems a pretty awful thing to consider, but trying to rationale why they ended up on that path.
I understood one sister worked at Costa and one was a cleaner, presumably two people, two jobs rather than both being done by one.

The other was a cleaner.

The River Dee remains the focus of the search as officers said no evidence has emerged suggesting the missing women left the immediate area.

Chief Inspector Darren Bruce said: “Eliza and Henrietta’s family are understandably extremely worried about them and we are working tirelessly to find them. The focus of our search remains the River Dee and I would again ask, if you were in the area at the time, please think back, did you notice anyone matching their description?''

Am I right in remembering there is a 24 hour Asda in the direction the ladies were heading?
No, I think the nearest Asda would be at Garthdee, which is nowhere near and much further down the river. It is not 24 hour anymore I don’t think.

There is a 24 hour Polish newsagents on Market Street, but they would have walked past that and across the bridge.

via Search area widened for missing sisters in Aberdeen

Further searches are being carried out towards the Port of Aberdeen's South Harbour and Duthie Park.

What about the possibility they knew they could take the road to wherever they were headed, but they purposely chose this path because it just seemed like it would be "nice" to walk close to the water? It wouldn't have been 100% pitch dark right?
Then misadventure may be the outcome. Or they reached their destination, but something happened after that. JMO.

Has it been established where these women live? Do they live with the parents and brother?
This line from the BBC link below makes me think they live together, separate from the parents, unless their work hours mean they might not speak every day: "Jozsef told BBC News their mother spoke to the girls last Saturday." The photo at this link shows them with the brother and the women are wearing matching pink shirts, which stood out to me. Are they perhaps missing their sister in Hungary, and are they unusually close to each other?

This line from the Guardian link below concerns me: "The sister’s relatives urged people not to spread unfounded rumours about their disappearance." What sort of rumours would people spread about them? Is it possible they went back to Hungary?

Hmmm last time the other sister spoke to them was New Year’s Eve? Almost a week before they went missing..I would imagine they would have talked more than that. Maybe not. Wonder about the frequency in which they spoke.

Do most families who live far apart speak with each other more often? I live far from immediate family and easily go much longer without speaking to them. One consideration of many is differing time zones. I think they were reported missing relatively quickly.

I imagine they mean some of the speculation. Some of the ideas being mentioned here wouldn't exactly feel good for their family, and the truth is, there isn't enough evidence to really know anything.

How could they be back in Hungary; they surely would have contacted family? (And gone to an airport, not this river path...) IMO.

The two sisters came over to Scotland together 7 years ago. The rest of the family is in Hungary as far as we know.

Thoughts on when the sisters were reported missing and by who ---

Work:
If the sisters had work on Tuesday and didn't turn up then work could report them missing, however I think it would have to be longer than one day - I don't think work will be reporting them missing if one shift is missed. Unless there are past concerns..maybe.

Family: It only leaves the family, but they don't seem to speak every day - the other triplet having spoken to them on New Year's Eve and their mother spoke to them on Saturday (I believe).
Surely there could be a scenario of them ringing, and the twins not answering but they could be busy - but to be reported the day after...i don't know, some I have.
Barring any details we don't know, it does seem odd to have the police investigating this as a disappearance. Two 32-year-old sisters should be able to be out of contact with their parents for a few days. They spoke with their mother on Saturday; I wonder if there was a row or something?

IMO it depends on the person, not the distance. I talked to my father, and half and step siblings more when I lived close, but not at all when I moved to another state. And the only reason I talked to them when I lived close was at the get-togethers. But once I moved? Not at all until my father was getting close to the end and I got called to discuss "stuff". I'm just not one to keep in contact and apparently my step/half siblings aren't either. lol

Here is a pic from the news today of officers searching the path. As you can see, the river is accessible from both sides. The bridge they crossed is visible in the background.
I could definitely see a slip from this area - both falling or one falling and one trying to help.

I could theoretically see one slipping and the other trying to help were it not for the fact that they’re out in the middle of the night on a monday night/Tuesday early hours (which is reportedly out of character).

The timing and them being out walking down a dark icy path at 2AM makes me think that an accident is far less likely and that they’ve deliberately gone into the river.

I think if they’d come off the path and gone anywhere other than into the river CCTV somewhere nearby (I understand there are commercial units the other side of the path) would have captured them.

One sister could easily have slipped and fallen in, judging by this photo. And the other could have come to grief trying to help her. It's freezing cold. Why they chose to walk along this path at night when it would be pitch black is anyone's guess.
