***Update #3***

Deputies will keep searching through the predawn hours and into the morning. There are no updates to report at this time (approx. 1:50 a.m.), but we will continue to check out all tips and thoroughly search the area. Thank you to all our partner agencies who have joined in the search, and everyone who’s sharing this post and spreading the word.

***Update #2***

Units are continuing a thorough search on the ground and from the air, with additional help from our surrounding agencies. Lombardy Drive is closed in the area of Firefighters Park. We are checking out every tip that comes in and will continue to update with any significant developments.

***Update #1***

We have K-9s on the ground assisting in the search. Additional foot traffic in the area may affect their ability to track.

We do appreciate everyone who came out to help - but if you can stay in your vehicles and out of the K-9 units’ path, that would be a huge help as well!
As soon as we have new information to report, we will post it here asap.

So sad. At this point, if I had a child similar to all the ones recently who have gone missing, I'd put an AirTag or other tracker on the child. Prayers for his grieving family in this sad loss.

I agree but sadly they like to go without clothing or shoes ( Charlie had no shoes on). I'm not a fan of this however I would probably pierce my childs ear and find a way to airtag that. Sounds crazy but I can't think of something they would have a hard time removing. IMO

An airtag needs to be within 100ft of another apple device/network to work. So sad, RIP little Charlie.
Good to know. My sister put airtags on her luggage and when it was lost, she was able to locate it in another state. I wonder what those were and how that worked?

When clients I've had have needed to wear a medical device, we've had luck with putting it on their back sort of between their shoulder blades (you know the part of your back that always itches and you can't ever reach it to scratch? There). I wonder if there might be some way of securing an AirTag to a body location that they couldn't reach.

That just means her airtag was within 100ft of someone's apple device or someone's network. It uses Bluetooth to silently "latch on" to another device that has wifi.

So sad. I've seen so many autistic children end up in water. I wonder what the draw is to them. Prayers for the family.
Appears to be several potential reasons as not all autistic people are alike.

Sensory Appeal of Water

water offers a multisensory experience that fulfills multiple needs at once. The visual aspects of water, like its sparkling, bubbling, and reflective properties, can be particularly captivating. The sensation of water on the skin, combined with the pressure it exerts, can provide a soothing effect and address tactile sensory sensitivities.

Escape from Sensory Overload

The average auditory environment, with its varying pitches and volumes, paired with bright lights and intense smells, can be particularly challenging for individuals with sensory sensitivities. When submerged underwater, these sensory stimuli are muted

what is so special about the water? Children with autism have difficulties connecting different stimuli to the same experience, making water very exciting. There are so many switches in the brain being activated simultaneously, that it’s no wonder children with autism are fascinated.

Well, this is the closest thing I could find that would provide a tracker, and it appears to be a little smaller than a deck of cards. Very cumbersome. Maybe soon, someone will invent something that's about the size of a man's watch which would be easier to attach to a child.

The thing is, this device provides a history, and is in communication with different responders. You wouldn't need that. You'd just need something that works like "find my phone", to locate a child. What do people with alzheimer's, who have a history of wandering, use?

There already is one the size of a watch. There's a variety of different ways to get them on the autistic child from a watch, t-shirt, belt, etc. Scroll down to the Variety of Sensory Friendly & Non-removable Wearing Options section.

Sadly they seem to cost around $60 per month, many families can't afford that. This should be covered by Ins or Government plan. 1 loss of a child is to many IMO

Sometimes I wonder if there will be a day that a microchip of sorts could go into a human….like our pets have. Maybe that would be mayhem technologically. And, obviously would need to be safe for human bodies. Sigh. RIP sweet boy.

I'd guess it's not far off. While Elon's Neuralink isn't about tracking, tracking would be SO much easier that what he's come up with. So... if Elon can help quadriplegics do some things by just thinking about doing them, then a simple tracking device would be much easier than what he has accomplished.

Elon Musk says his ambitious plan to let humans wirelessly connect their brains with phones and other devices has taken a new step, announcing that the first human has received a brain implant from his Neuralink company.
...
"The device is designed to interpret a person's neural activity, so they can operate a computer or smartphone by simply intending to move – no wires or physical movement are required,"

Back to a microchip for autistic children... the way they are currently designed for pets is you have to scan them for the info stored on the chip. That's how they get lost pets back to their owners. For a lost child they'd need a different sort of device that wouldn't need to be physically scanned in order to get information off it. It would have to be a tracking device.

But, I can also see something like that not going over very well with the masses. Typing this response made me think of abusive men demanding their wives get chipped so they could be stalked. Not good. Obviously not with a legit doctor, as that would be unethical... but there's a lot of unethical people out there that'd do just about anything for money. JMO!

I do like the idea when an autistic child goes missing if bad/wrong wasn't done with a device like that.
