If the jury lets him walk, and then they find out he had previously killed his dad, they will be upset, imo.

Court is live.

Starting out with a jury issue.

They don't have pens.

Whew.

On to opening statements.

I hope this closing argument is resonating with the jury.

He was angry. Not afraid, angry. A point I hope the State makes here.

State: she is dead. He kidnapped her, by pulling her into the house against her will. He murdered her, with premeditation, because he had opportunities to stop.

Defense: the State wants you to decide the case based on moments. We want you to decide based on facts. Defense attacks the relationship the grandfather claims to have had with the defendant, and suggests the jury can therefore discredit his credibility.

Noticing the defense only says the victim "died".

MOO: Ah, but she didn't just "die", he made her dead.

Defense is suggesting the defendant "ushered" his mom inside, to avoid embarrassment.

MOO I'm not sure watering the words down will help.

Defense just spent a great deal of time suggesting the victim entered the home freely, entered because she wanted to. Of course she did. The first time. Not the second time when he pulled her back in.

Defense is also saying there's no evidence of a fight..... but to me, that undoes half the Defense's argument. There was no fight like the defendant said. SHE had no recourse for self-defense. He dragged her in, grabbed a knife and stabbed her. Because he was angry.

Oh. Boy.

Did the Defense just say this, of the victim?: when you don't experience consequences (for bad choices), you repeat them.

I think that applies far better to the defendant.

Killed once. Got away with it. Killed twice.

I'm sorry, just because the DEFENDANT might think it's self-defense to kill over-bearing imperfect parents, it's not. It's just straight up murder.

ok, I am trying to catch up. I have been watching the trial and I thought the judge ruled that no one could mention him killing his dad previously. However, during closing arguments he said Collin "had killed before". What did I miss?

They could introduce the killing, just not indicate it was his dad (or related).

Thank you. Makes you wonder what the jury is thinking about that.

After watching the trial, I would be very surprised if he doesn't get found guilty. They evidence is overwhelming. It really bothered me how they tried to paint the mother in such a bad light. Bringing up every mistake and bad choice she ever made.

If I was the grandmother and they find him NG, I'd be very worried.
If they let him walk, he will kill someone else. I can't imagine having that on my conscience, it's very unfair that the jury don't have all the facts.

I agree. I feel that the grandmother's testimony didn't help the defense at all. I felt like it just reinforced the idea that the victim was left all alone to try to raise Collin.

Imagine how he would treat a girlfriend or boyfriend.

And verdict watch begins.

What????? The judge just dismissed the alternates.

Is that right? What if a selected juror cannot complete deliberations? The judge must be expecting a quick verdict. Because they're still potential for misconduct, emergency. I thought the alternates had to hang tight, twiddling their thumbs until the verdict is reached.

Am I remembering wrong?????
