FL - Daniel, 32, & Heather Kelsey, 30, found dead, Volusia County, 31 Dec 2016

according to this article, not more than 30 minutes:

The trooper found the car, its hazard lights blinking, on the right paved shoulder of eastbound I-4, northeast of State Road 44, about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a sheriff's report.

The car hadn't been there more than 30 minutes because the trooper that found the seemingly disabled vehicle had been patrolling the area, Montes said.

helpful - pull off to "take" something?? Did not know about 30 minutes-- so it kind of fits, casue the car sounded as if it was parked along side "normal" not like a veer off the road

"Honey wanna do some"

The Kelseys were driving back home after visiting the children's grandparents in Quincy.

The couple had recently moved to their manufactured home. Shaughnessy said they mostly kept to themselves.
"They would wave at you, holler at you," Shaughnessy said. "But as far as wild parties, no, nothing like that going on. They were just a quiet family."

Medical Examiner's Office has a backlog of cases and said the Kelseys' autopsy report could be ready by Wednesday.

I can't imagine they would put their kids in jeopardy, but, I know, this happens all the time. I'm not saying it's drugs, but once drugs get a hold of you, nothing else matters. If this was drug related, at least he had a sense of mind to pull over to save those innocent babies.

I am surprised no one picked up on this from the Daytona News Journal:

"Because of their problems, they were in Quincy, Florida, and were making their way back," Chitwood said.

The couple's three sons - Aiden Kelsey, 2; Nicholas Kelsey, 1; and infant Joseph Kelsey - were in foster care and with relatives of Daniel Kelsey, Chitwood said.

A spokesman from the state Department of Children and Families did not return a phone message left Tuesday.

Was this part of the "problem" that they had to go to Quincy for.....get their children out of foster care.

P.S. And our WS member wont have to wear ugly Crocs LOL

I'm going with fentanyl. So many people have been dying from drugs laced with fentanyl. There's pretty much no way to reverse the effects like they can often do with heroin overdose.

I believe they are NOW in foster care. I think they had custody of the kids at the time.

Wait, I'm confused. If there was nothing at the scene, why did the cop think it was drugs?

I agree with poster that said way back that they know more than they are saying.

It is like every story we all share with each other. Nothing has really changed , (by that I mean the next step is the autopsy) but amazingly we find new details,The new info (drug history) had to be known pretty quick.

If we were friends, and knew they used, and are told they have died, our first thought would be drugs.

They initially went out of their way to rule out drugs.

Little details that were there from the beginning. From the report. The wife found slumped over - that would have been in intial report - only described like 36 hours later.

Initially reported as found dead, only after 24 hours found unconscious, transported to hospital and died. That is a big difference in terms of notions

Found dead possibly another party involved - unconscious is more drug related IMO

If it drugs there probably was vomit at the scene or on his or her clothes.

The four year old can talk at some level.

It bothers me , in terms of a autopsy, if there are regular (lack of a better word) deaths, why not move this up. All the real key is gonna be a blood draw. Forty seconds.

That can not take 4 days??? Basic screen correct?

This fits in with "recently". My sense is the kids had been with them ( as opposed to just getting them back).

But DCF involvement does add a lot of nuance to the story IMO.

Drug users, DCF gets involved, they try to get clean, had been doing good, relapse on holiday (NY is a party cue).

Have not used in a while, got bad stuff or did a bit too much and here we are Moo only and mo is only guessing at this point!

But in a way if we think about we would have to be talking about bad sh$t, how would two people accidently overdose so close in time ?

But ingestion at the same time, and then pass out I would think would have to indicate bad stuff no

Dcf did take kids from hospital gpa has them now

Yeh, IMO changes the whole story

You are so right - I should not have included the children's names I no longer have the edit option, maybe a mod could do it. Thank you.

Because of their "problems" - WOW.

In some way knowing foster care might have been involved , takes us to drugs, which then takes us to probably having relapsed a time ago.

Driving on harder stuff might be more indicative of trying to avoid withdrawal as opposed to "party"

Does anyone know from where they were , and found, indicate how long they had been driving - and how far away they were from where they lived??

I don't like thinking this. I keep leaning towards hadn't been using but one or both still craving. They got a point of heroin what used to be just right was now too much.

I'll admit to driving while tripping b@!!$ in my youth. Regretted it. Thank goodness nobody got hurt.

I'll also admit I've given parents the benefit of the doubt as far as drugs go. Like, I've thought, he's responsible with it, though, he would never do it when taking care of _____. But, yeah, they totally did.

The hazard lights being on kinda get me, though. If I'm shooting up by the side of the road, I don't want to attract attention and that's what hazard lights are for, so IDK. This one is just weird. So tragic for those little ones :(

Couple of thoughts; Maybe one or both had relapsed and had been able to hide the fact. One shot up first, while the other made sure no one was coming, or that the kids were asleep... So there was a little bit of time lapse between when they each shot up. One starts to o.d., the other, realizes what's happening, and puts the hazards on to get help, tosses the evidence. By the time help arrives, they've both died from a too potent batch. I have lived a fairly colorful life myself, during my younger years, however, I never messed w/Heroin, so I'm not sure how that scenario might apply.

Then again, maybe one shoots up in the vehicle, while they're driving down the highway, and the kids are asleep. The other sees they've started to o.d. and pulls over and gets them out of the car to perform cpr, but their partner dies. Then, in grief, they shoot up too, and toss everything away from the vehicle, maybe thinking to do so just in case a child got out of the vehicle.

That's about all I could come up with. This is very strange.

I think we may be getting ahead of ourselves. Gotta go back and read the link about foster care.

Photos of the mom on their FB pages show marked differences from one to the next. I think I'm getting back on the OD'd theory.

So im falling asleep looking back for "foster care" references. I stand by what I think and that's that the kids were in foster care AFTER the deaths and not before. Jmo
