FL - Daniel, 32, & Heather Kelsey, 30, found dead, Volusia County, 31 Dec 2016

The thingie is called a face shield. But - paramedics don't use them.

Paramedics do not do mouth-to-mouth. They use a bag-valve-mask (BVM) over the patient's nose and mouth; then they eventually intubate the patient (place a tube into the trachea); and squeeze air into the patient's lungs periodically until the patient is either pronounced, placed on life-support, or rescusitated (in order of liklihood, with rescus being maybe 5%).

Actually, since 2008 the American Heart Association has been teaching "hands only CPR" for lay people, partially due to the risk.

Paramedics are often the unsung heroines and heroes of the healthcare team. Their job is difficult in ways that many never consider. Weather, traffic, conditions in homes, gangs, crime, family of trauma, the bereaved. Unimaginable hazards. Our local team once spent the better part of the night searching in the sleet for an infant following a 2 vehicle motor vehicle accident - mother dead in car one, infant dead in car two, both fathers unconscious, and an empty carseat in car one. After about 7 hours, the sheriff was finally able to track down the grandmother who had the infant from car one.

Paramedics, Firefighters, LE - Hat Tip!
Agree! I was a volunteer firefighter for a few years and we thankfully had ETM'S/Paramedics that also were volunteer firefighters. Where I lived the fire dept was usually first on the scene to take vitals, answer questions, etc. The patients were blessed to have these ETM's/Paramedics volunteering with the fire dept.

Maybe they didn't take heroin, or any other 'downer', maybe they took an 'upper' and it brought on a heart attack? That is possible isn't it?
I agree! Anything is possible!!

Is meth still "popular" in FL? And would meth cause that reaction? TIA

I am having trouble being as sympathetic as most. Even though they pulled over, we don't know if they were already doped up and driving that way, or stopped to dope up, in which case they intended to drive on after with the kids. It is unlikely to me that both were drugged by others and it hit them as they drove home.

Either they were driving under the influence, or soon would have been, Imo, if they had not died. A car wreck may have killed all the children as well. Perhaps it is a blessing in a way they died when they did. (If they were going to die, it is preferable to a fatal wreck that may have killed others too, i.e.)

I don't understand taking drugs when you have kids. At all. And I come from an easily addicted family. Or maybe because I do. I also don't have any kids. It just burns me to read over and over what drug-addled parents do to their kids, or how they neglect them, forget them, etc...

Rant over.

I want to understand this! It seems I am either wide awake or nodding off and then sleep. Not much middle ground for me

This is interesting.. whatever happened, happened fast.

"The car hadn't been there more than 30 minutes because the trooper that found the seemingly disabled vehicle had been patrolling the area, Montes said."

Maybe it is the term overdose - that gives strange notions. I just have hard time grasping that two( if it was this - drugs), "seasoned" users could both violate their tolerances - that takes me back to if drugs , bad shi$, murder, double suicide or poisoned????

And the hazards on adds more of a mess to this- hazards are safety focused, drugs while driving is reckless they are opposites

I wish we knew if they ever made it or where they were before getting in the car - anyone know?

Some "cookers" put everything under the kitchen sink in their drugs.

They could have consumed &/or otherwise ingested lethal doses of something prior to getting into the car, then the driver realizes they must stop due to losing the ability to function any further. They could have been using the exact same thing for it to have the same effects at about the same time, as well. That would explain why officials are unable to say OD if there was no evidence at the scene to lead to that conclusion. Tox reports come in usually much later than the initial autopsy report, or in my experience that was always the case.

I agree. I have very little (pretty much zero) sympathy for people who abuse drugs..and the ones who choose drugs over their children piss me off to no end. I'll just leave it at that because honestly these types of stories make me rage. I'm just glad the kids were unharmed.

It was never mentioned if there was sickness via vomiting. I do wonder...

and...............we gotta remember that because of the way it was reported initially (dead outside car) both were unconcscious not dead - so I think somewhere in here that might help with time of injection - how I don't know!!

Just can't grasp it being "fun" to waste ones sh$t trying to drive! that's a bummer!

But even they are that far addiction and have to use to avoid withdrawal onset, I would think most in their lives would know - but....the phrase they doing going great recently might be the goldmine.

Boy this sounds shallow (not the first time!) but he looks hard core - she looks like cupcakes being made in the kitchen moo

Cookers will even use the urine collected from their drug customers to attempt to extract the pseudoephedrine that is harder to come by due to legislation governing it's sale, but a necessary component to their recipes. In arranging photos of evidence for a grand jury, I asked the task force officer the name of the yellow liquid in mason jars lined up near the lab. I was expecting the officer to say anything other than "pee."

Were they with family all day? Was that mentioned?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-children-sat-car-believed-died-overdose.html

Believed to be overdose. They seem fairly sure about him but not yet sure about her.

Article said both were users.

This part I do not understand. If there were no overt signs of trauma what could make them think something different (ie one shot one stabbed) with her?

but if approaching two unconscious people what would make one "different " than the other? The only thing I can come up with is where found (slumped on car)

That can IMO mean two things fleeing, (bad things) or trying to go get help (good things) so why at this point are they thinking something is off with her ending up the same way??

its peculiar- unless there is something not released yet??

Hey mom

that reporting has been all over the place one friend said they did not show up as promised, some reports make it sound like they went to solve some problem, some stories make it like they were heading home etc etc

If it's an OD, it sounds like either they were not experienced drug users, OR they were trying something new like Methadone that kills so many because of the delay in being able to feel it, so they overdo it by accident. Leaving the flashers on indicates they knew they were in trouble & wanted to be found.

bbm - I'm thinking, maybe Heather made a last attempt to get her cell to call for help but couldn't find it, only managed to put on the hazard lights before losing consciousness. This would explain the lights as well as her being slumped over the car possibly?
