FL - Daniel, 32, & Heather Kelsey, 30, found dead, Volusia County, 31 Dec 2016

REPOST with definition!

An autopsy performed Tuesday did not reveal any signs of trauma on either Daniel or Heather Kelsey. One of the victims did test presumptive positive for the presence of drugs. At this point in the investigation, I’m not able to release any specifics as to who tested positive or for which drugs. No official causes of death were immediately determined as a result of the autopsy. The causes of death for each victim will be determined through the results of their full toxicology tests.

Presumptive positive: terminology used for drug screen test results. It indicates that the drug screen came back positive (peroid) for that specific drug or drug class. A confirmation/quantification test will have a result of "negative" or will have a quantified value for a positive.

Drug screens may give false positives, but a confirmation test will clear up any false positive. Confirmation tests are not vulnerable to false positives, but they are much more sophisticated, time consuming, and costly.

I think we are ok to conclude that it was him - they said from day one that something was different as far as she went

maybe she could talk for a a few seconds a said something that made them think he was trying to hurt her

there has to be a reason , with two bodies with no overt signs of trauma to state right away that they are hesitant to "think" drug OD for her - that is just IMO too random the way the scene has been described

Users are paranoid drivers-not of their ability to drive but of LE-more so during the holidays. They could've picked up NYE party favors (drugs), saw a state trooper and ate whatever they had, explaining the simultaneous symptoms. I'm unfamiliar with heroin but think of coke, meth or molly as party drugs. Unless it's suicide no one plans to od and in the mind of a user driving loaded beats all the charges they would've faced with kids in the car.

This is quite likely. Explains the od and why it hit them both at the same time.

Seems kinda odd that a sheriff would call it weed.

Yea I think I can see it now. They smoked some 'weed', and bought something else (not weed) for later, for the NY party. Then saw an officer cruising and swallowed what they had. Did they smoke in the car? Did the kids inhale it and were asleep from it? just speculating

I've always wondered, why does it take normally around six weeks to get a toxicology report back? TIA.

  • #349
One possibility to consider is that they both could have been "mules" and may have swallowed balloons containing narcotics that they would pass later and that those balloons broke down in the stomach releasing lethal doses of whatever narcotic it was. Just something to throw out there.

The car was running guys sounds like vomit or tushie emergency?? That has to mean emergency exit? Maybe they both realized they had better make them selves vomit?

Lets say you start to realize that your too messed up to drive and pull over. There is really no reason to "rush" out. You might get in the same amount of trouble if a cop found you sleeping in your car if your messed up. It can't be like one would think oh too buzzed to drive - lets get out of the car.

So maybe the hazards were a medical emergency- not about the kids.

and..................he died after her- she looked heavier than him?

They could pull off far enough to not worry about rear end as far the kids on that part of I4.

It is getting muddier not clearer this is backward !

I have (based on nothing!) visually he was lying on his face in the grass but a bit away from the SUV?

The Kelsey's three sons - one of them an infant, the other two toddlers - were in their car seats watching a movie

What happened in 24 hours where he could not "tell " us who was positive and today he can??

Ormond Beach residents were making their were back home from Quincy. I had this all confused??

So, they were coming back from parents- so they what hit the road at around 10??

OK, weed. Seriously? Weed isn't "drugs".

Get back to me when you have something, Chitwood.

Give me a break..................agree......laced??

Doesn't the basic drug stuff indicate other stuff not only pot? Think employment drug screening - urine- results are not weeks and weeks

With Austin they were able to "clear" all the basics off the list - pretty quick so...........................

There is something funky here imo

  • Chest pain.
  • Dry mouth.

Meth OD

  • Chest pain.
  • Heart attack.

Seems kinda odd that a sheriff would call it weed.

Maybe the Sheriff is a "child of the '70's" I would expect him to state a tox screen showed THC.

The sheriff was born in '63. Seems odd to me also.

I'm lost as to what might have happened. Only THC reported (so far) and only him. SMH. At least the babies are alive.

[*=left]Opiates such as heroin, codeine and morphine

Labs generally report blood test results as quickly as they report urine test results. For most labs, that means results are available 24 hours after the specimen is tested, or 48 hours or more when the specimen must be delivered to a lab. Positive results add three or more days to the turnaround time

None of this is making any sense to me at all. A standard 12-panel drug urine screen (UDS) checks for cocaine, cannabis, PCP, amphetamines, opiates, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, methadone, propoxyphene, Quaaludes, Ecstasy/MDMA, & Oxycodone/Percoset.

The article says, "Chitwood said Thursday that it was Daniel Kelsey who tested 'presumptive positive' for drugs. The sheriff said there was a 'presence of weed' in his urine. However, Chitwood also added that the toxicology tests done on the couple may show other substances."

This leads me to believe that all that has been performed thus far is a standard UDS. A false negative on a UDS would be extremely rare and those are usually the result of purposeful manipulation. Therefore, at this point, all of this talk about other drugs is nearly a moot point. The only thing we have to go on is that they found Daniel Kelsey to be positive for cannabis. Cannabis didn't cause his death.

  • #358
I would now assume that they didn't take any of those drugs tested for in a UDS (except cannabis) but something else? What could it be that kills so fast and efficiently?

They said mile post 122 but can't find pic of that site!!

Maybe we are giving to much of timeline to cop with 30 minute timeline. Maybe they pulled off an hour earlier without the hazards. When you get out on that part of I4 it is not street light like in a big urban city - its vast and dark out there. Pretty straight. The lighting is only pretty active around exit/entrances - pretty much headlights in between

It was a dark colored SUV- pulled over like lets guess 8 feet in the grass. WIth no flashers on it could have actually been there god knows how long . Kinda fits with her being close to car - last ditch effort and hit the flashers and passed out. ON the next pass the cop saw the flashers.

Look for street lights not there - imagine 1 in the morning

maxresdefault.jpg

Out there you can go for miles and miles without street lights --really dark for long stretches

So really noone can say how long they had been pulled off- all we can say is after flashers at some time were turned on vehicle was noticed within around 20 minutes or so after they were activated

If ya think about it not turning the car off but turning the flashers on in that instant get out of the car, it actually makes some sense (especially with her being slumped on car) it does make some sense that sometime after they ran out she did come back solely to turn on the flashers

speculation speculation!!
