OT, but with a point - - - this homicide happened in my old neighborhood yesterday. I woke up to the 5am news that there was a "manhunt" for a suspect that had killed a woman in my old neighborhood, and wounded another......the media at the scene didn't know much and then the Sheriff's office asked all media to leave. That was odd.
It continued to be odd, and basically a media shutout for 6+ hours yesterday. Locals here were reasonably upset - the area this happened in is within a mile of a subdivision that has about 100 homes, a decent river area where people boat and fish...a suspect on the run could have easily decided to venture down the river's path and either confronted people out on that river (a popular area), or ended up in the backyard of one of those subdivision homes, hiding, etc. For you "Fixer Upper" fans on HGTV, Chip and Joanna Gaines' Magnolia Farms is maybe a mile away???
So the public knows there is a "manhunt" for a suspect, but NO info was released! I can't remember a time like that........by the end of the afternoon, it starts to come together...this was an ex-BF of the female, and he had been charged with stalking and harassing her, as recent as June 30th...........there were survivors in the house that were able to run to a neighbors house and identify the man, so the local LE knew who they were looking for. Unfortunately, this lady had a restraining order against him and had recently had security cameras installed because of this guy as a threat. The cameras captured this animal AFTER her murder, going out to the cars parked outside, allegedly looking inside the cars, searching for the children who ran out of the house...he was still trying to hunt them down. Ugh.
My point...LE knew who they were looking for and knew it was a targeted killing (oh, "allegedly")...but the guy was on the run and who knows what he could have done in desperation on the run...carjackings, other break-ins, etc...but LE never let the local community know a suspect description, etc. A lot of unhappy people around here. I think the Sheriff got a lot of rotten tomato votes (LOL) for his lack of PR yesterday. ////////If LE knows something in this case, you would think they'd want to get a statement out to ensure the community somehow - Lord knows, they can do that without divulging investigative details.
P.S. But our Sheriff deserves some kudos at the end of the day, as they did find their guy by the evening, up in Burleson, TX (near Ft. Worth).
