Yes, they do time in a military prison, or in the military disciplinary barracks at Ft. Leavenworth, KS. When they are done doing their time they are officially discharged from military service (if a discharge was part of the sentence). If a discharge was not part of their sentence, they are returned to duty and generally separated with an adminstrative discharge, depending on the offense.
If the victim is a spouse or a child, they will continue to receive military pay/benefits for a period of time so they are not left suddenly destitute. A year or two, I think.
Are we sure he was courts-martialed for battery? If it was indeed battery, I doubt it was of the domestic kind, and if it was, it had to have been vicious. Ditto if it was battery on someone else. Military guys fight - a lot. They don't go to trial for it though except in some outrageous case. Or if he beat up a commanding officer or something. You can beat your wife and get away with it, but battering a superior will get you in a heap of trouble.
Given everything else it looks bad, but I actually can't think of a guy in my close acquaintance that wouldn't make this joke. And a fair number of women would make a similar reference. Especially if they were already discussing Star Wars for some reason. I highly doubt a three year old Star Wars allusion is indicative of any great "plan" on DS's part. Heck, find my online persona is the last year and you'll find me threatening to sell my kids on eBay, smack my husband with my new frying pan, and eat the face of all children who annoy me. All made sense within context (said to people who know me, my situation, my sense of humour, and who share a background to get these jokes), but sound absolutely awful in a vacuum.
Edit- Just to explain for anybody not familiar with Star Wars. DS's outlined plan is Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader's journey in the prequel trilogy, or at least the last film. His wife is pregnant with twins (Luke and Leia, who are two of the main characters in the original series), Anakin turns to the dark side and becomes Darth Vader, his wife dies in childbirth for no damn reason except she loses the will to live. Literally. It's ridiculous, and the source of much joking amongst fans.
Here is a link to the website of his Star Wars Obsession? (don't know what else to call it, the man is 40). He is also known as Cowboy besides the TB2871. I also have found a list of some of his military arrests, but need to talk to a mod before I post.

I wonder if Michelle had life insurance. If so, wouldn't she make her kids the beneficiaries? And if the kids were minors, who would get the money or control of the money?
As others have pointed out before, it would be interesting to see if his second wife had life insurance. That would have given him enough $$ to purchase a condo, I would think.
I am trying to find the address of Dale Jr's condo-I have it here somewhere, although I think that is a red herring. Not sure he was actually living there yet.
The condo was purchased in 2008.
The condo was purchased in 2008.
Did Michelle and DS ever live together, or were they planning on living together once they found out she was pregnant with the twins?
The articles regarding his military record stated...
Dale received a dishonorable discharge from the Marines in 2003 following a string of courts martials including military convictions for drug possession and domestic battery.

So I'm assuming that he spent some time in a military prison before being released and discharged in 2003. Which leads me to believe that perhaps the domestic charge was against the 2nd wife. But it was the combination of the drug charges and the domestic that may have landed him in prison in the first place? Would someone serve up to 3 years in a military prison for drug possession and battery charges?
TIA for your help with these questions.
It is my understanding that the condo was purchased for he and Michelle and the kids. It is also my understanding that due to the mortgage being in his name there were several instances where she and the children were put out in the middle of the night. All of this is rumor that I have heard and should be considered as rumor. I haven't been on here much although I read alot. I'm not real clear on what I can legally post or not legally post in regards to "talk around the town" kind of stuff. Can someone direct me?
Thanks
