Or if she was wrapped in some carpet or rug from the burned out house, maybe that is the reason the soot was mentioned?

We were told here at Websleuths that there was no soot on Somer. Sad who has known Somer's dad for the last two years says he made a mistake and listened to someone without credibility. However, that information was never cleared up or retracted on NG.

If Somer was wrapped up in a piece of carpet, it would make sense as to why they searched the dumpster at the burnt out house. It could also make sense as to why they found evidence at JH's house that led them to call him a POI. Don't know if there was a carpet, could be just rumor. That's why hoppy, our mod, and all of us try so hard to label rumor for what it is, rumor. MOO

Carpets have skin cells on them so there is no way that DNA couldn't be extracted from the carpet. It would be an easy arrest if this were the case. No matching carpet would be needed.

You know I would think that would be a pretty complicated test to separate all the all the DNA that might be found on a carpet from skin cells. Maybe that is one of the test that came back right before his arrest.

Carpets also have fibers that transfer easily to anyone coming in contact with it - so if Somer was on the carpet or wrapped up in one, the fibers might be under her nails, in her hair, stuck in her clothes, etc. Unless, of course, the carpet was heavily contaminated by the garbage. MOO

That would make sense.. i just have a hard time picturing him driving up to the burnt house, backing in, grabbing the carpet from the dumpster (which can be awkward and heavy) without being noticed. Even if he did it at night, wasn't it rumored that teens and/or others sometimes went to that house at night and drank/hung out?
Seems risky - but as i type that, JH doesn't seem like the sharpest tool in the shed.

The other thing that i just thought of though, if he took some carpet from the burnt house wouldn't there be other remnants of that same carpet in the dumpster that LE/CSI/reporters would have seen? I don't really recall seeing any carpet remnants in the Gano dumpster videos.
But again it makes sense. it would explain why upon finding Somer's body, they went straight to the Gano house to search for evidence. If she had soot on her from the carpet, it would make sense that they would go and search that house.....
hmmmmmmmmmmm

And, if he did it at night, THAT night there were searchers all over that street! He would have surely been noticed taking carpet out of a dumpster or out of a house with all those LE and other people searching the neighborhood and in particular Gano Ave. where Somer was last seen.

I would love to hear this song.

Recorded in December 2009 and January 2010 by engineer Tommy Newton and produced by Bobby Ingram in Germany, "Justice" consists of 12 songs in total and is a representative cross-section of over thirty years of band experience. Cornerstones on this album are the title track, which — according to Ingram — is a successor to epic songs like "Fall Of The Peacemakers" and "The Journey", and the song "Fly On Wings Of Angels", which the band wrote for young murdered victim Somer Thompson

I don't know about rumours, but more speculating on what might have happened to Somer. It all has such an aura of mystery, as to what actually happened to her that day. I know that perhaps the soot on her is probably misinformation, but can't be absolutely 100% positive.? The only way anyone would know positively is from the autopsy report, or any other reliable scource.
I imagine that if there was soot evidence on her, then it may have been possible the scene of the crime was at the burnt out house, she may have then been put in some kind of carpet and placed into a vehicle, and transported from there, long before L.E and others started looking for her?
If it was verified that everyone at the burnt out house on the day was cleared of all involvement with Somer's murder, and J.H. was indeed nowhere around that house on the day, then i guess all of this is highly unlikely.

Somer talked to Kyle that day at the burnt house, it would make sense she would have traces of soot, at least on her feet. I believe Sad pointed out that the person who told Sam was not always credible, I took it as take it will a grain of salt, just not as fact. Maybe the person right this time (just didn't hear it from LE perhaps), who knows? But, it would surprise me if she didn't have soot on her & that is one reason they may have concentrated on the burnt house, other reasons could be Kyle was one of the last people to speak with her, Somer being last scene in that vicinity, vacant house, RSO at one time working there, etc.

Ok, after watching this...I am convinced she was wrapped in a rug. Why else would the reporter state it in such a matter of fact way?
It's not like she was spectulating, she flat out said it.

She had to get that info from somewhere IMO.

  • #935
Yes, she did clearly state on that report, "wrapped in a rug, and thrown in the trash!". I would think by "rug", she did not mean carpet either! Some kind of floor rug, i would imagine. From that i would think L.E. could have collected plenty of forensic evidence also? Maybe depending on what kind of contamination?

The reporter does sound confident about what she is saying - but they say what the writers put down for them, and it's just a possibility that the writer may have made a mistake. Just a possibility. MOO

I hope they have more than DNA as evidence because can you imagine all the DNA in that carpet that would have been transferred to somer's body if she was rolled up in it. Of course they would expect JH's DNA to be on a carpet in his own house. Then everyone who had been on that carpet while it was there, like JH's mother and stepfather for sure, their friends and family and God knows who else came in and out of that house over time.

Maybe that is what is taking the time? Could it be a left over piece that was in the garage, that was cut-off as it was not needed (could be many years old, but new)? Regardless, I think it would come down to who had access to the house to remove the carpet or rug if this is where it came from.
