I grew up under the threat of the IRA. I was terrified every time we went to London or any other large city. Jumped at loud bangs etc. You have to keep living your life, it's gonna damage you even if you do keep living, I guess we adapt to move on. I'm sure it contributed to my anxiety disorder, but I have other personal factors to take into it too.

Got England v France on the telly, it's going to be emotional :(

I'm in tears already as the teams have come out. Not sure I can handle the national anthems.

Edited to add, I too think growing up in the 70s and 80s in England, living in Manchester as a child and in my teens has contributed to my anxiety problems.

Bobby Jindal seeks to forbid Syrian refugees in Louisiana

Gov. Bobby Jindal issued an executive order Monday (Nov. 16) to prevent Syrian refugees from being resettled in Louisiana. He cited Friday's terrorist attacks that killed 129 people in Paris and injured hundreds more.

Jindal, who is running as a right-wing candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, cited a section of the Louisiana Constitution that says "during times of emergency ... the governor has emergency powers to protect the citizens and property of the state of Louisiana.

http://www.nola.com/politics/index....l_war_refugees_in_3.html#incart_story_package

Currently, 14 Syrian refugees have arrived in Louisiana since the beginning of the year. Thirteen are in New Orleans.

I am glad to hear this, however, I would like Jindal to further investigate those who are here. My husband is presently working in the tallest building in NOLA near the Superdome, and obviously, 13 people--if not truly refugees-- can cause horrific things to happen. I stay happily across the lake 99% of the time but used to live in NOLA proper for many years. We already have obscene levels of violence in our city, let's pray that those who have taken refuge here are seeking peace.

Hell, I used to be a bartender at Pat O'Briens and I refuse to even go to Bourbon and most of the quarter now. I have kids now sso it's not like we go out much but that's already been taken from us thanks to our own Louisiana-grown "terrorists". [I consider them to be terrorists as they've murdered people on Bourbon Street, shot people at Mardi Gras parades, but that situation needs to be tackled at another time.

If there are only 14 in the state, I hope that they were properly vetted. If not, I pray our government is wise enough to be closely monitoring these people.

There were also indications that French authorities as far back as August had uncovered information that Isis was contemplating an attack on a concert hall.

A French jihadi who was captured by authorities on returning from Syria in August told them he had met there with Abdelhamid Abaaoud, a 27-year-old Belgian, whom he said had instructed him to target a concert venue.

Mr Abaaoud has subsequently been linked to aborted attacks on France’s Thalys high-speed train and a church earlier this year. He was also previously involved in a robbery in Brussels with one of the Abdeslam brothers. “He is a man who has grown in importance [within Isis],” a French intelligence official said.

As the security services continued their work, there was a sense of panic and preparation around France for the possibility of further assaults. In a particularly dramatic step, the government has authorised the distribution of an antidote for nerve gas.

A written decree published on Sunday approved the use of atropine sulphate solution from France’s military stockpile “considering the risk of terrorist attacks” and noting that the country would soon be welcoming 120 heads of state for the Paris climate summit in the first two weeks in December.

When I am on my laptop it's easy if I just open it in a new tab. With my phone it takes me 20 seconds and then everything shuts down and it tells me I cannot view the link :pullhair:

I just saw a website listing Isis arrests in the US. I can't link but Google Isis arrests in us

A graphic, gives states, arrests by month, names.

The Islamic State’s suspected inroads into America

https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/national/isis-suspects/

U.S. authorities have charged 66 men and women around the country with alleged Islamic State activities. Men outnumber women in those cases by about 5 to 1. The average age of the individuals — some have been charged, others have been convicted — is 25.

Mostly in the US or Canada because that's what I'm familiar with - Grand Central, Parliament Hill, anywhere near the Mall during a President's Inauguration - but I've been to a few places in Europe too. There were no checkpoints when I went to Oktoberfest in Munich, the Piazza San Marco was wide open and packed with tourists, etc. There are just so many vulnerable spots.

Odds are nothing will happen though! Try to focus on getting the most out of your trip.

Enjoy your crepes and please report back. I'm sure you'll be fine. :grouphug:

eta: I'm worried now the first part of my comment might add to your uneasiness, but I assume you've thought about this all already. I hope I didn't make it worse. :(

No you did not, it is just everytime we are about to leave something happens.I was uneasy about Brussels years ago before the attacks.I hope it is ok to say that my observations and reading Belgian news and talking to Belgian friends is that young male muslims committing crimes in Brussels and Antwerp are a big problem. Many stabbings at train stations, robberies, attacking police and train conductors.

Investigators in Paris have recovered a cell phone believed to belong to one of the attackers, a possible big break that could help unravel the plot and the suspected network behind it, counterterrorism and intelligence officials told CNN.

According to the officials, the phone contained a message, sent sometime before the attacks began, to the effect of: OK, we’re ready.

Hannover tonight - the suitcase alert

The head of Hanover police, Volker Kluwe, said they had received “concrete information that someone was planning to set off explosives inside the stadium” approximately 15 minutes after the gates of the stadium were opened.
Police have also evacuated the Tui Arena concert hall, which was due to host a gig by the band Söhne Mannheims at 8pm tonight.
Police say they’re not commenting further for now. We are still waiting for the interior ministry’s press conference to begin

Heyya CARIIS,

There were three Friday the 13ths in 2015, Nov 13, being the final one for the calendar year.

In 2016, there will be only one, Friday, May 13, 2016

If I remember correctly, the long-held belief of Friday 13th superstition, now forever remembered, came from the arrest of scores of Knghts Templar on Friday, October 13th, 1307. But Grand Master Jacques de Molay was not executed on that day, but later.

Grim-looking German police in Hannover tonight
Soccer match between Germany and Holland has been cancelled due to Islamist threats.

The chief of police of Hanover Volker Kluwe, has stated there is "concrete danger for the whole of Hanover." This is reported by the public broadcaster NDR Tuesday. "There's been tangible evidence that someone in the stadium wanted to detonate an explosive device," according to Kluwe.

Explosives were found in an ambulance near the stadium.

Religion has often been the excuse for committing barbaric acts of cruelty even when the perpetrators do not really believe in that religion.
