France - Karen Carter, 65, stabbed to death, Dordogne, 29 April 2025

  • #481
I've read through this entire thread last night, riveted. Without intention of belittling it, it really reads like a who-dun-it story.

From an "outsider" just now encountering the case, I don't think any of the characters mentioned are going to be the perp. Other than that, I have no idea.

On the edge of my seat for the conclusion. And, I hope that is soon for the sake of everyone.

Nothing new about Karen and her killer?

The longer the silence, the more I feel like the person who did the stabbing was not the person who wanted her stabbed.

  • #484
If the person who did the stabbing didn't want her stabbed, then why do it.

They could have just not done it.

I guess
the poster insinuates the "contract killing".

Again.

PS
This new victim resembles younger version of poor Karen IMO
(minus the ring in the nose, that is)

Strange things are happening in this "idyllic" rural area
where previously people didn't even bother to lock their doors.

- Karen murdered
- A woman attacked from behind
- Another woman dead

All per MSM reports with links in this thread.

And all in the space of a couple of months.

Just my observation.

Yes, I was just thinking about a degree of removal between the victim and the killer, but worded it poorly. Not limited to contract killing, but involving this and similar options, yes.

The husband also publicly denied there was divorce talk (he stated that they had been merely going through a rough patch) and according to Karen's friend, Karen tried to divorce him, but he wasn't keen on that.

But again, that’s the friend’s account.

It could have been a slightly different situation.

The friend could be very nosy. Hinting on a new relationship, asking whether Karen told her husband.

I view Karen as a gracious person who, however, knew how to put up boundaries. So she offers the most plausible explanation, I asked A. for a divorce but he is not ready.

We don’t know what the truth is. I just strongly suspect that Karen didn’t pour her heart out to all friends. Perhaps JFG knows, but he communicates with his lawyer and the police.

I don’t suspect AC. He loved KC, no doubt, but he has a business, a degree, a community. To me he looks like a person who’d grieve over the divorce but had a high chance of remarrying later. So I view him as the victim here, tbh.

🤔

"Was a hitman hired to kill Dordogne expat?

Days before Karen Carter's brutal stabbing

a mysterious man was seen outside her house.

Now locals believe her murder could be the work of an assassin."

"If the idea of a contract killer operating in this tranquil and bucolic corner of rural France seems outlandish,
then it is a theory being given credence by French detectives,
not least because of
the sighting of a suspicious man spotted by Karen’s home
just three days before she was killed.

This potential suspect,
who was reported to police in the immediate aftermath of Karen’s death
has never been traced."

Hmmm...

A considerable amount of new information in the article above.

Karen's (male) neighbor saw a stranger (a black man) near her home three days before her murder. The man, who had no bag (so not a hiker) would not greet him and looked away.

A month before her death, J-F accompanied her to South Africa where she attended a football tournament with her team and also visited her family. She did not tell the family that J-F was there.

While in South Africa, she consulted a family lawyer for assistance in separating the family assets in divorce. Her husband was still hoping for reconciliation until her death.

She expected to keep both Tremolat holiday properties in exchange of her share in the South African family home, but was also buying another small cottage in Tremolat to live in.

Yes, very interesting new info.
I'm surprised this is the first time the neighbour's suspicious stranger sighting 3 days before the murder has been reported.
The neighbour said he'd mentioned it several times to LE and was so frustrated about lack of progress in the case that they went to the media.
I presume the neighbour has been checked out by LE to make sure it's not a fake sighting so if we take it on it's merits it seems highly significant.
Due to the remoteness of the village and KC'S property, the likelihood of a random tourist walking past her house only a few days before her murder seems highly unlikely considering they weren't dressed for hiking.
It could certainly be considered a potential 'stake out' by the perpetrator.
Also, the more information which comes out about AC/KC's and the potential divorce and property ownership issues, the more I'm leaning towards a contract killing.
Especially as the DNA samples will presumably exclude villagers.

France is a free country.
Meaning
People can move freely.

Who was this guy?
Maybe a tourist?
Or an immigrant allowed in this country?
He could be anybody wandering by.

Having nothing to do with this tragedy.

Were Police interested in this testimony?

Did anybody else see this man? 🤔

A new article - main points:

Fourteen people had their saliva samples taken for comparison.

In mid-July, the police called in divers to fish out a mysterious bag below the Trémolat bridge.

M-L is unreachable. Calls to her phone go to voicemail, the gate to her residence is locked with a chain.

The mayor declined to comment, because he didn't like the previous article from this source. J-F also replied that he had nothing to say.

One local that was interviewed believes that Karen knew her killer. Villagers are vigilant and suspicious.

I hope they found something interesting in the bag under the bridge.

I hope they found something interesting in the bag under the bridge.

But it was in July.
Did they find any evidence?
Is anybody arrested?
Nope??

At least the 70 year old pensioner lives in peace&quiet far from this "idyllic" place.
With phone set to voicemail hehehe
Media seem livid
No one to harass.
Oops!

An interview with Alan and some other members of Karen's family.

In the absence of a police breakthrough, amateur sleuthing was inevitable, said Carter, who knows some locals have put him in the frame — claiming he arranged the murder of his wife of 30 years from his home 7,000 miles away in the coastal city of East London. “It’s been extremely upsetting to hear what’s being said, though more for our children and the rest of the family, than me,” he said.

It has been silent for so long.
Is there really no trail of the murder?

The cafe and the football club are in full play, many events. Karen doesn't seem to be missing, and that is making me sad always. But if I am honest: my dear friend Helga has died, and I also lived my life until today as if nothing happened. 😞

Some of the last updates I could find (Published on 07/23/2025), probably shared ages ago:

The gendarmes in charge of the investigation have taken DNA samples from around fifteen people.
According to the mayor, these are the people present at the wine tasting event attended by Karen Carter, before she was brutally stabbed outside her home. “They want to close doors,” says the mayor of Trémolat, Eric Chassagne, indicating here that investigators are seeking to narrow down the leads."
Having attended the evening, the elected official also submitted to a DNA sample. “From what I understand, they would like to compare the DNA with that found in the victim's vehicle"

Seems like there were no answers from that.

Sorry for your loss.

It would be interesting to see if the life patterns of the people in the area changed, and how.

It drastically changed for M-L. I assume that she is accessible to the police.

However, her current behavior might be a clue. Disappearing implies, guilt or fear. She may be afraid of the police or the villagers easier finding “the missing clue” if she is around. Or she may be genuinely afraid of seeing JP. Alternatively, she could have seen or heard something that night and is hiding for own safety. But “hiding” points at an involvement of some type, right?

About the rest: life should change for the widower and the orphans, but how?

I expect some changes for JPG. If it was a revenge/hate/jealousy, he may be at risk as well. Does he isolate at home? If he is as active in the community as he was, it might indicate knowledge that it was a pure contract killing and the goal has been achieved.

I’d expect everyone’s behavior change with several unexplained deaths in/around the village. Lack of change would be interesting.

One thing is, we don’t know the whole financial situation of KC. Were there any properties (she liked wine) or businesses in common possession with a friend, for example? Could someone’s business enterprise take a hit if KC divorced and remarried, for example? She lived in the area for a long time. Sometimes a startup or a joint venture is suddenly starting to bring money, or she and someone could have owned a piece of vinery and one year, the wine was amazing. KC was into wine, in SA and in France, wasn’t she?
