Not much new (the same news about the DNA as last week):
Mr Chassagne said a squad of gendarmes has been stationed in the village throughout the course of the investigation.
“That was three weeks ago, a month ago. They were assigned to the case as a supplement to gain a fresh perspective.”
“Life has returned to normal. But as soon as there is the slightest micro-event, everything comes back to the surface.”

This idea of a contract killer, is there a reason to assume that this might have been the case?
IMO a contract killer would not kill with so much rage, or specifically target the groin area. Get it over and done with and be gone. Don't make a bloody mess of it.
Again IMO, it seems more likely that either the perp had a personal grudge against KC, or a grudge against women in general and KC happened to be around.

Besides,
the idea of a "contract killer" sounds IMO ... ummm...too...
farfetched, or "Hollywoodish" to be factual.
With many women being murdered every day by ordinary perps all over the world,
I really don't see the necessity to bring this outlandish theory.

I can't see how it's possible to conclude the murderer was motivated by rage. IMO, that is pure projection: "I would only do that if I were in a rage". We don't know what the killer felt.
Also, the idea that the killer was deliberately 'choosing' to stab in the groin area hasn't, IMO, been demonstrated. The victim would have been actively defending herself, likely moving around to protect her face, neck and vital organs - possibly then, just leaving other areas unprotected. Also, apparently it was dark.

Here we have a lady living her best life in provincial France during retirement.
I cannot, for the life of me, imagine such extraordinary scenario.

She'd recently told her husband she wanted a divorce and was making plans to move on with her life. That's a big motive right there.

If it was him (cough, cough)
he could do it while the victim was in S Africa.
There is a problem with violence there.
After all,
Karen left SA because of this issue.
And the attack could have been treated as random violence.

The husband also publicly denied there was divorce talk (he stated that they had been merely going through a rough patch) and according to Karen's friend, Karen tried to divorce him, but he wasn't keen on that.
Do you mean the guy didn't run to tabloids with a sob story
opening his heart to all and sundry?

Personal problems are just that: PERSONAL.

Normally when we think of contract killers we think of the professional hitmen we see in movies: John Wick, Pulp Fiction, Grosse Point Blank, etc.
But that's not the only kind. Sometimes the contract killer is just a low-life. Not a professional, but someone willing to murder for a few bucks. Jared Bridegan and Dan Markel are just two examples of people killed by amateur hitmen. There are many, many more.

Floriane Roux was a vulnerable person and her death is most likely a suicide. RIP Floriane.
